About Ballo Italian Restaurant
BALLO Italian Restaurant promises an Italian experience with intense design combinations, exceptional service and a fresh, authentic menu of Italian favorites and new creations. BALLO at Mohegan Sun was inspired by San Galgano - a Gothic abbey built in the 12th century, located in Tuscany.
Once in BALLO guests can enjoy a large wine by-the-glass list, specialty BALLO cocktails and freshly prepared Italian fare from the kitchen while sitting in a cathedral-like room replete with Italian fixtures, fabrics and dramatic lighting. Move further into BALLO and visitors can sit at one of the largest carrera marble bars ever built or have dinner in. Arches, stone and bold materials will accent this exuberant dining experience. But the food at BALLO is the real celebration!

Ballo Italian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We dine at Ballo often and with that being said, our most recent dining experience was less than par... The thing that really disappointed us this time, was the fact that we were looking forward to the calamari and we were shocked to hear that at 6:00 they were out of it! We also had to wait a very long time for our check. Overall, we love dining at Ballo, but this visit was a little disappointing.
We have dined at Ballo several times. It has always been a wonderful experience. This time it was still very good, although there were a few things that did bother us First as we were being seated, we requested a different table in a better location (note, the restaurant was not crowded). I sensed a bit of an attitude about this. Were told to wait and they would see what they could do. We stood in the middle of the restaurant for about five minutes and finally we were seated, not in a very friendly manner. As for the the meal and service. The food was excellent. The service was good, but a bit rushed. We no sooner got our drinks and the food arrived. The waiters assistant kept trying to fill the glass of everyone in our party with the sparkling water that only one of us had ordered. If we refused, we just didn't get any water at all. So overall a pretty good experience, but not quite up to what we have come to expect fro this restaurant.
I am leaving this review because we love Ballo's. We look forward to our dinner every few months that we visit Mohegan Sun from Boston. It has always been consistently awesome.
However this past visit we were terribly disappointing. Waitress was not friendly or knowledgeable. Bolognese recipe did not include tomato base as it should.
This is my third time eating at Ballo and it was my best experience to date. Our waitress was excellent and the food was outstanding. It was my first time trying the pasta special that is prepared tableside in the cheese wheel, it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. It is not on the menu, it's an appetizer and it's $25, it is heavenly with the grated cheese and truffles. We had the salmon dish was was excellent also. Wonderful place to dine, first rate.
Solid Italian food with a great bar scene. Food was excellent, service was good, but spotty at times. Nice spot and I'd recommend you ask for a table in the back, away from casino floor. At times it was like a scene from the walking dead while we were eating dinner LOL....... Better to be seated at the bar or in the back. BIG restaurant and bar. Food was excellent. I'd definetly go back, but to a different seating area.
The menu was the attraction. Once we arrived, we were greeted with a smile and seated promptly. We were told the name of our server would be AJ. He was Helpful, pleasant and made our dinner very enjoyable. It was my daughters birthday and he brought out the most delicious molten chocolate cake with a candle. It was simply awesome. I would recommend this restaurant to my family and friends for sure. Did I mention the food was amazing?😊
We loved it!

This is a mixed review. I came in with my friend for a nice dinner before a show. We made a reservation for 6:15, but arrived a little early and were directed to the bar. You can order food at the bar, but we only ordered drinks while we were waiting. The bar was crowded, but it only took a minute to find two open spots. Good service overall.
We got our table on time. The service was typical for a busy Saturday night, no complaints on that. Both my friend and I ordered seafood dishes, the swordfish and the salmon. The meals came out very quickly -- almost too quickly, but again no complaints as we did not have appetizers/first course to interrupt.
Sadly, both dishes were extremely underwhelming. The swordfish and salmon had very little seasoning, and were fairly dry. The plates overall were plain -- we both had the feeling that it would be easier to grab a recipe off the internet and make a better dish in less than an hour for a lot less than $60+
The swordfish and salmon dishes were $32 and $29 respectively. If they were priced in the under $20 range I would not have been as disappointed as my expectations would not be as high. The idea of spending over $60 for two small plates of dry fish really ruined the evening for us.
However, I have to say that I am VERY happy with how the restaurant staff handled the situation. I mentioned to the server that we were not completely happy with the dishes, but told her not to worry about it. Despite her very busy tables, she did take the initiative to speak with the manager who was very willing to give us other options from the menu. The manager was very helpful, but unfortunately we were unable to stay due to the show that was about to start. At the end, she very kindly offered to take these meal off of our bill, which I appreciated.
Overall I would give this place another chance, but steer clear of the seafood dishes for now...
Been here many times. Food is quite good and so is service. Only disappointment this trip was the seating. Came early with young adults (teens) and booked dinner well in advance but they put us in between the bar and casino floor. If that’s what I wanted would have waited in the buffet line and not paid premium food prices. If I was a walk in and it was packed I would have understood. This I didn’t get. Lost half dozen stars and possible recommendation for not recognizing customer needs. Have to think twice before recommending or returning.
Great night from start to finish. Had to do without our favorite server as he was in a wedding party. Congratulation to Jonathan and Kristine. We were greeted as always by the best front of house staff in the entire world. Jason and Chef Sean were on top if their game tonight and put together a great meal. Our server Casey was wonderful, with a complete understanding of the menu and made some great recommendations. We started the night with a great new fall arugula salad with shredded pumpkin nuts raisins and cheese lightly dress, a great addition to the fall menu. At the same time arancini arrived. We allowed it to sit for a few minutes as we are our salads which really allowed the flavor of this great dish shine through . Chef Sean sent out the new Luna on the fall menu which was to die for. Main meals consisted of shrimp scampi with home made tagliatelle and the calamari which is huge flavorful and very tender. For desert we went with Nutella cannoli , the best this side of NYC. Just another normal night if great food at Ballo. Next time you are at Mohegan Sun don't miss out on the opportunity to enjoy a great meal in a great environment. I would be remiss if I also didn't mention the floor support staff. They are some of the most attentive professionals that you will find anywhere.
Great place to splurge. Staff is always very attentive. Nice selection of dishes. Menu is changed for the season. Everything we had was delicious. Our waiter was excellent. Love the environment. Nice selection of wines, liquor.
Started with arugula salad, Mac and cheese with truffle ( always fun to see), skirt steak, strozzapreti pasta dish. Ending with gelato, cappuccino and espresso.
As I've mentioned in previously reviews we dine at Ballo's every Friday evening as we consider that our date night. We've probably eaten every dinner choice and apt and each week we look forward to either repeating a dinner choice or partake of the 'special' of the night. This past week I stayed with one of my favorites grilled Salmon over Broccoli Rabe. My wife chose the special of the night Bucatini with Manila clams, Pancetta, Escarole and oven roasted tomatoes, I had a taste and it was outstanding. Bucatini is one of Ballo's home made pastas of which all are excellent. Not sure what more I can say but for sure the next time this dish is on the menu it will be my choice of the evening.
