Bali Hai Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I was upset at the fact that they gave us a 2:45 seating, which was 15 minutes before the kitchen closed. They did not tell me that when I booked. So there was only one other couple there finishing their food. It was weird. I felt rushed, and uncomfortable. It was Valentines Day. So, I wasn’t very Happy. They really shouldn’t squeeze in people the last 15 minutes before the kitchen closes. Especially on Valentines Day.
I love this restaurant and come here often with my friends or dates.
The personnel is always super friendly and nice, the outside patio has best views of Downtown San Diego, and the menu is original and authentic.
They charge 3% surcharge though - it is to offset the rise of the minimum salary in California.
I have been a customer for 23 years two or three times a month....lunch, dinner, brunch and drinks but tonight has me so steamed that I will never return. Take a conservative ticket average of $50 x 3=$150 x 12=$1800 annually x 23 years...$41k over the past two decades and they have lost me as a customer. The restaurant booked a large group in the main dining room...complete with a loudspeaker with endless speeches and musical entertainment. Just after ordering, we spoke to the manager that this was adversely impacting the dining experience we were seeking. She replied, “they are almost finished.” Had she been truthful with us and told us they were nowhere close to leaving, we would have paid for our drinks and left. She failed to come and apologize to us. Upon leaving, we made our displeasure very clear and what did we get in return...a blank stare. I have to say, I am finished with Bali Hai....
Ordered the scallops w/ hurricane popcorn purée & grilled corn salad & was brought out ice cold & no corn salad on plate. The waitress offered to have them make another but when she brought it back to me it had been microwaved. She claimed it was a new plate & even said she watched them cook it but yet it was missing the bite I had cut off & the purée was dried hard on plate & still no corn salad. My husband ordered a mixed appetizer plate of which coconut shrimp cold & soggy. Just a bad experience
We came for restaurant week to try it out and the food was excellent! I got the braised short rib and it was cooked to perfection. The daily soup was a creamy potato soup which was amazing. The view of the water and downtown was gorgeous and a perfect setting for a girls night. We enjoyed our experience and would definitely return!
We were married here 11 years ago, the most amazing waterfront venue with a Polynesian theme! We also dined here last night for restaurant week and was elated to discover they offered gluten free and dairy free choices for EVERY course including dessert! Unheard of! But so appreciated! Short ribs were so delicious as was the seared pork chop and the salads were so fresh and tasty. The chocolate sorbet was like nothing I've ever tasted! Gluten free and dairy free decadence!
The food is very tasty and they have a variety of different things going from beef, pork, chicken up to some fish and seafood. I personally liked the smoked salmon, shrimps and crab legs. For dessert is not that good, but in general it is worth the price. The service was very good as well, the waitress was kind and always looking if we needed something. I would recommend this restaurant.
The staff was very accommodating and attentive. We got a window table which had spectacular views but the food was lackluster and the portions were very small. Maybe it was due to restaurant week but after that dinner we probably won’t be back. Not worth the money.
Been wanting to check this place out for months. The view is outstanding! You can see all of San Diego spread out in front of you from the lovely outdoor terrace on the second floor. It was a cool evening, but there were heaters that made it comfortable. If we felt like it, we could have enjoyed the live music inside. Definitely a foodie type of place, with Asian fusion food and unusual desserts. I look forward to returning.
I made a reservation at Bali Hai not realizing it was restaurant week. I have to be honest and say the evening at Bali Hai was just Okay. The restaurant was packed and loud, the food was marginal and the servers were very busy. Bali Hai is one of my go to spots because of the spectacular views and excellent food. Next time I go to Bali Hai, I will make sure it’s not restaurant week!
