Bali Hai Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Food and ambience was good but bad service ruined the evening. We did not see our server for over 40 min. He never checked on us to see if the food was ok or if we needed anything. We had wanted to order dessert but since he never came back I had to go to the hostess to ask for our check. During that time there were waiters and waitresses present for all the other tables in our section. I don't know if it was poor assignment or what but when the waiter finally came with our check there was no apology or acknowledgement of the situation. He just dropped the check off at the table and walked away. Service is everything when it comes to a dining experience. The service here fell very short.
What a Polynesian treat- like stepping back in time to enjoy delicious food and an amazing view. The Mai Tai is no joke but delicious and the Wok Fried Bass was so succulent accompanied by tender crisp veg in a dreamy sauce. Make the trip and enjoy a piece of history along with the most amazing view of San Diego!
The view is perfect especially at night. The servers are all friendly and they know their menu very well. However, they don’t have any diaper changing stations inside the restrooms i had to change my baby on top of the cold desk area inside, now that was just inconvenient. Plus, in regards to food, their Lamb Pad Thai is a disgrace from the Pad Thai category. However, in case we dine at this place again, i’ll try their other menus. But for now, this place is off my list.
We came to Bali Hai for our holiday lunch. Service was excellent - we were seated right away, the waitress was very attentive. Our appetizers arrived promptly, as did our entrees. The view was amazing - as we saw a pod of dolphins swim by. Thanks for making our holiday lunch most excellent.
I was looking forward to seeing friends again for a holiday dinner. We had eight, seated at a lovely table by the window. The view was breathtaking. The problem is, it was so loud! Because of the high ceilings, everyone's conversation in the place echoes back and forth. Added to that is the recent addition of an unnecessary background music. It was so loud, my friends and I had to shout at each other up and down the table.
Maybe it's because we're all getting older (in our late 50's and 60's), but this new trend to put background music in every restaurant is frustrating for all of us. All of us commented on how hard it was to hear. We didn't even stay for dessert; we went somewhere quieter.
My husband and I will be back, alone, but I am sorry that I booked such a loud spot where none of our party could hear each other. We had really wanted to catch up, and converse, and that didn't happen.
I first went to the Bali Hai in 1967. The restaurant, and the neighborhood, have not changed much since then.
We loved the place then and we love it now. The food was good, although underseasoned. My friend's Thai Caesar salad was fresh, but did not have any identifiably Thai flavors. My poke was also tasty, but needed some more sauce or dressing to liven it up. The won ton chips were the freshest I have ever had. The view was outstanding, and the service cheerful. The only problem was the horrible noise--there were about four huge parties in the dining room and nothing could be heard except their shouting and screaming. Next time I will try going on a Tuesday rather than a Friday.
I was there with my wife for our date night and at this time of year there are lots of Christmas parties like this past Thursday night, service was lacking and it wasn't that busy. Service should have been better. The dinner presentation was lacking as well. No flair, or pride in presentation. It looked long ke Panda Express in a bowl. It was tasty this could have been better. Appetizers were great though. On par with Cheesecake Factory I guess but Cheesecake Factory would likely be better. Great view!
Three words View View View .... Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bali Hai Restaurant. The amazing view of the bay is only matched by the amazing food. The fish was fresh and their take on the classic Loco Moco was delish. Special mention for our very enthusiastic and attentive server. She seemed genuinely happy to be working at Bali Hai, which enhanced our already pleasant experience. It was our first visit but will be back.
My Family and I have been dinning at Bali Restaurant for Thanksgiving Dinner for the past 8 years. Each year keeps getting better & better. The Management and Saff know what it takes to make a memorable meal. We will be Back The Same Time Next Year if Not Sooner....Woohoo!
Beautiful, delicious, excellent service. Did NOT appreciate the 3% surcharge for the Thanksgiving buffet. I know it’s to cover the ever rising cost of doing business, but the special buffet should have set the price to cover it. It’s a rip-off and many diners think it’s part of the tip, so the servers get cheated.
