Steak was excellent. Braised short ribs were overcooked. You neededa knife to cut. They should peel of with a fork. One of our party send it back because it was too tough. Very disappointing for a high class restaurant.
Great View Great Service Food was Excellent ...Everything was Wonderful 👍🏼😊
Food was delicious, but a little pricey. Service could have been better. Drinks were great.
Great food great view and family friendly
Out for restaurant week. Party of 2. Wonderful experience. Started with their famous Mai Tai's. The best. We chose the poke for our starter. Very fresh tasting and beautiful presentation. We chose the seabass and beef short rib for entrees. The fish was cooked perfectly. The stir-fry was a nice accompaniment. My mate enjoyed the beef short rib. Very rich and filling for his taste. We closed with both desserts offered. Death by chocolate trifle and tiki rum mousse. I am the chocolate lover and found it very satisfying. The mousse was enjoyed as well. The view from the restaurant is one of the best in San Diego.
One of the only restaurants my husband & I feel safe visiting during Covid. Excellent safety precautions, distanced outdoor tables, and you can't beat the ambiance & cocktails with a view! We loved trying a few new menu items during restaurant week!
Everything was amazing. We were so glad to be back to one of our favorite restaurants. The food was so good. Everything from service to food and drink quality was well executed. The staff was welcoming and friendly. We can't wait to be back.
The oysters are absolutely divine!
Overall the food was very good. My new York steak was a little tough.
Very outdated ambience. They view was great from our window seat and our server was awesome. The food was quite mediocre & pricey for what was served.
We truly enjoyed our experience at your restaurant! The food was fabulous and the service was exceptional!
We love this restaurant! We were married here 2 years prior and they always treat us like royalty when we visit. It's such a great family owned restaurant and the staff is always generous and friendly. We will be visiting every anniversary and more!
I would only refer people here fir the view and possibly the drinks. Food was just OK, luckily we were there during restaurant week so didn’t pay the higher prices.
Watch out for the Mai Tai! It’s strong. The coconut shrimp was incredible
The service was slow and inattentive. The propane heater ran out of gas and the chill in the air coupled with the wind was rough. Our food was cold as soon as it was set down on the table. We were seated on the outside perimeter even though tables closer in were open. If the goal was 6’ distance, some of our group were back to back with our neighboring table, less than 2’ apart. The food itself was delicious. Had our server come by we would’ve ordered a second round of drinks and dessert. Not the experience we were hoping for.
As always the food, drinks and service were great!
Restaurant Week menu; salad, corvina seabass, and dessert were all very good. Very nice ambiance outdoors by the water.
We love Bali Hai! Every time we come to San Diego we try to dine at this wonderful restaurant. Hope they would consider Hawaiian entertainment in the future!
Everyone was great. It was very clean.
I have previously give a 5 star rating for many amazing years of meals and service. I know COVID has affected many businesses, but my last two visits have been horrible. Reservation was made a month ago, dinner was for 845pm. Seated immediately. Drinks prompts, appetizers amazing. An hour later we are still waiting for dinner to be placed for 6 in my party. Had to speak with waiter and manager. Other tables seat after our arrival were already served. When our food arrived it was cold and raw. I want my old Bali Hai back, if this stays we will never be back.
Bali Hai is a gem: its history, its food, its drinks, its stunning views and service and ambience. Incredibly friendly staff, and the cuisine is excellent. When in the San Diego area, make sure to visit Shelter Island to experience this classic treasure. You won't be disappointed.
We had dinner reservations at 7:30pm. When we got there they put us outside when I had requested (on open table) inside near window. Hostess said all they had was outside but would be by fire. We finally ordered our drinks and appetizer. Those came out in decent amount of time. Then we ordered dinner around 8:10/8:15. It was 9:00 and no food. Asked Manager what was happening said kitchen backed up. Finally food came and everything was cold. Told server he took back and by 9:40 we were eating. My husbands steak was a little cold and mine was warm. It was very unfortunate to have this happen as we had been looking forward to this night. Manager and server did nothing to rectify the situation. Not really sure we’ll be back. Do I recommend - not really.
Everything was really good, I had the sea bass which is something I normally would never order but the waitress suggested it and it was really good. The staff was friendly all around, view was nice! Wow the Mai tais are no joke there!! I like em strong usually but uffda!! Great place though!
They were out of some menu items, but our halibut dinner was delicious. Can’t beat the Mai Tais! Our server was really wonderful.
Great food and service with a panoramic view of San Diego and the ships coming and going
Why even have only cocktails and small bites? We reserved for 3:30 expecting lunch or early dinner and could only order from a tiny menu of snacks.
Always great! Desi Realtor playing and singing just makes it perfect! The food, the atmosphere, and the Mai Tais cannot be beat. The Wok Fried Sea Bass is incredible! Mahalo Nui Loa Bali Hai !
Beautiful, on-the-water table at twilight, outside on the patio (Covid required seating) backed up against a patio heater. It was perfect with a light coat. The patio was full, and it was fun to be around people. Food was great - we had a sampler to start, and my husband had a Mr. Bali Hai rum drink to celebrate his birthday, with a commemorative mug of the Tiki Head that we could take home. I am vegan and had a platter of steamed veggies and black bean tofu that was packed with unami - all for 6 bucks a piece. Tons of food. A new chef did an excellent job.
Happy Hour provided a sampling of wonderful food at reasonable prices. Thanks for a wonderful, live music, yummy drinks and an amazing water view. Great afternoon!
Love everything about the Bali Hai & so excited it’s coming back open. I’ve been a regular here for years & glad COVID didn’t force this establishment to go under - it’s a San Diego Icon!
Worst waiter experience I have ever had. He could not both to pick up a plate. Other staff brought the food and all he did would walk by and ask if I needed anything and would see the table full of empty plates an would just walk away empty handed. Now the food is terrible I don’t know how this place stays in business. This place has a view that’s all it has for its self
Phenomenal experience. Seared ahi and shared taster plate were delicious. Great ambiance and I would absolutely visit again!
Our waiter was fantastic! He definitely made our first time there an amazing experience. He helped us celebrate our anniversary.
Unfortunately the kitchen was backed up with orders. We waited over 30 min from the time we finished the appetizers to get our main course.
Great weather, great patio. Sunday pressure to turn table, but we weren't going to linger so we were fine with that
Ambiance and service was excellent. Grilled salmon on the dry side for me. Customers since early 70’s.
Poki was spicy for my husband could see hot pepper seeds otherwise it was okay. Will return with family in the future. Nice to hear that family has kept up the Polynesian menu.
Top notch place for brunch! We came for Easter and it couldn't have been more perfect. Our server Aaron was awesome and took great care of us! We enjoyed the specialty mai tai's which put us all on a beach in Hawaii. The chicken and waffles were tasty and filling. The salmon was fresh and the pesto salad to accompany it was delicious. The cubano was rated as one of the best in SD. Not to mention the view with that outdoor seating is out of this world! We will be back!
Went to Bali Hai for Easter brunch and was very disappointed. For one, not really any form of selection in regards to fresh fish options. Also, I had a great experience pre-pandemic with a buffet style with many options, which is what I expected. Not only were they out of multiple things on the menu, as limited as it already was, but it also was nothing like the brunch I experience there in the past. Likely will not do brunch there ever again.
Great place for family celebration, beautiful sea view, lovely staff, and delicious food.
I was not impressed with my meal lobster tacos, quite bland lobster was popcorn style. The rest of other meal was decent for my parents tho fish and chip and the tuna melt. I think I would have enjoyed dinner instead. Service was great but not the meal itself. The Tropical drinks pina colada and strawberry daquiris was amazing. 4/3/21
