Bali Hai Restaurant
The Bali Hai Restaurant has been a favorite in San Diego for over fifty years. Our spectacular views of the San Diego bay and the downtown skyline make us the perfect location for any special event. Along with our dining room upstairs, our premise possesses three different and versatile private rooms. The flexibility of multiple private facilities allows us to accommodate any type of party. We host weddings, class reunions, birthdays, anniversaries, concerts, memorials, festivals, fundraisers, business meetings, seminars, and corporate events.

Had not been there for many years, but out-of-town guests compelled us to return. We were pleasantly surprised by the ambience, service and food. We particularly enjoyed the Polynesian cocktail menu.
We visited on a weekday for lunch. The place was quiet and the bay view was spectacular. We could have stayed for hours.
The food was good, not amazing. They allowed some of our party to split their food orders at no additional charge and provided ample side dishes for both. The shrimp appetizer was memorable.
We will return soon without our out-of-town guests.
Hannah is the best! We love Bali Hai and especially during Tiki Trader!
So good. Excellent Poke and wonderful views of San Diego. Fun place for a date or family outing
Everything was excellent. Cocktails were amazing. The view outstanding. The food was very tasty and the service superb. Can’t wait to go back!
Never been here for lunch before. It was a nice quiet and relaxing time.
We were there for their Thanksgiving Buffet and we have done it for many years now. In the past we always had a reservation in the afternoon and it was amazing. This time we couldn't get a reservation till 6:15pm and I would not do that again. By the time we hit the buffet there were things missing. They ran out of ice cream and butter for example. Some of the food items had been sitting out too long. With such great Thanksgivings there in the past, we were pretty disappointed this time around.
On a whole, Bali Hai is awesome. This is why I still gave 4 starts out of 5. Our Thanksgiving expierience this time was more like a 2-3 though.
The food options were great and the turkey was moist and tasty. Service was excellent. It is hard to serve so many people at Thanksgiving and I would have given 5 stars except the food was not warm. My only complaint.
Though the food was excellent, served nicely and there was a nice variety, it was lacking in some little niceties that would have made it to the five star quality. In terms of available similar banquet style venues for Thanksgiving it was a great bargain and suited our party quite well.
Went for Thanksgiving buffet and probably wouldn’t go again for the price and what you get. We had reservations and were seated right away so that was great, unfortunately requesting a window table didn’t work out in our favor. Our server was just ok, not very attentive but not the worst, I overheard her saying she was a teacher so that’s really what made me leave a good tip. I’d say the biggest downside was the food. There weren’t as many options as I had anticipated, the khalua turkey was great never had turkey cooked that way before but the rest of the food offerings was sub-par for the place and price, I’d compare the food to home town buffet sadly. Maybe I was spoiled by the thanksgiving buffet we went to the prior year but had always wondered about Bali Hali’s thanksgiving buffet so had to give it a try, but as I said I wouldn’t go back for this occasion.
Awesomeness! The food and service exceptional! Betty is the best waitress in the world. Larry the owner, snd the management wonderful ! They make everyone feel so special there. I would recommend it to each and every tourist each and every native . YOU must go there AND check it off your bucket list.
The staff was very attentive and made sure we sat at a table next to the window overlooking the bay. Our waiter came by often to ensure we had what we needed. My wife and both ordered the Chilean Sea Bass which was exceptional. It is not an intimate quiet place because it’s noisy with all the conversations going on from the nearby tables.
Crowded, so reservations are a must on weekends, great bar with HH menu on weekdays. Amazing view
The outstanding feature of this restaurant is the view of the San Diego skyline at night. As others have noted, the ambiance is "energetic," OpenTable's euphemism for LOUD. Conversation was difficult at times. The food quality was on a par with that at similarly priced restaurants, but the portions were small. The service was very good. I particularly liked that the server did not rush us, even though we were there for over two-and-a-half hours.
The food was good, especially the brunch with crab legs. I went for my birthday and told them ahead of time but had to mention it at the end. The 3% surcharge was a little much and then my party put a tip on top which was way too much for not much service.
Great place for brunch. Scenic, affordable, and good variety of food choices.
It was very hott
I thought it was kind of weird that sourdough bread and butter was served with Polynesian food.
I saw several window tables open up while i kept asking to be moved to a window seat. I will not be going back ever.
Sitting outside with the shade from the large umbrella over looking San Diego Bay was beautiful. Weather was perfect. The waiter was on top of everything as we celebrated my daughter’s birthday. Lunch was very good. Look forward to our time meal at the Bali Hai.
First time we went and it was great, we will go back definitely! Try the Mexican Cream Brûlée
Mother daughter trip with a fun dinner out. Delicious meal and amazing view. My only complaint would be the tables are too close together therefore making the noise level extra loud.
The food was good, the views were amazing and the drinks were delicious. The only problem was with the service. It was especially slow which seemed odd to us because we’ve been there many times before and this was the first time we had bad service. Other than that it was good.

Amazing food and atmosphere! Unbeatable view. Highly recommend. Our server was on point across the board with hospitality and recommendations!
We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the bonfire downstairs.
We had a delightful meal with my 2 brothers, my son and daughter-in-law. The drinks exceeded our already high expectations, and the food was exquisitely prepared. The noise level was somewhat high for the hearing-impaired ones among us. But it was a great reunion of people who hadn’t seen each other in a long time.
Great dining experience. We showed up 15 minutes early to our reservation and they were able to find seating for us. The dinner experience was perfectly structured: drinks/ apps/ entrees and desert. No one’s drink arrived early, no one’s entree arrived late. We all drank at the same time and ate at the same time. Water was consistently topped off and every question we had on the menu was answered with a succinct but vivid description. Taste & presentation? 10/10.
PS: Had the Mai-Tai. Lives up to the expectation. You owe it to yourself to have one.
We had a very good experience at Bali Hai. We went to celebrate my wife's birthday and enjoyed everything about the experience there. The ambiance and food were both excellent. My wife very much enjoyed this birthday celebration. And our server made it extra special by bringing a birthday cake with a candle.
We have been to Bali Hai many times over the years, though last night may be our last. We reserved a table for 4:30 PM on a Sunday hoping for some quiet and a chance to talk. Little did we know that a popular entertainer was booked for the neighboring Humphrey's concert and (according to our waiter), an additional 100 extra people descended upon the restaurant at the same time for an early meal so to make the concert. The noise, screams (yes, screams) and general chaos was tremendous. Our food was not cooked nor presented well. The best part: our excellent waiter, Kona, who was attentive and helpful and the drinks. Though the view is spectacular, we'd rather have good food and more pleasant ambiance to enjoy our company's conversations. Bali Hai, which celebrates its 65 years in business this year, really should have done something with the acoustics and general seating by now.
Amazing as always! Our server Johnny was awesome! Always such a treat to have brunch here. The food is amazing, view is stunning and service is great!
Great experience and even better service!
Beautiful view of San Diego and wonderful food. We went to brunch with our daughter and was family friendly. Highly recommend and a must visit place when visiting San Diego!
Was a great vibe they even game us free dessert for our wedding anniversary waitress was wonderful can't wait to come back
Incredibly noisy. Made reservation a week in advance and still waited 30 minutes for table. I picked this restaurant because the menu offered salmon. They were out of salmon. The ahi I ordered was very good, but the lobster ordered by 2 others was not very good and they ate only a few bites. The coconut shrimp was very greasy.
The cocktails were not worth the hype. The wine was satisfactory. The server was not particularly friendly and was apparently in a hurry. I get it, you’re busy. Try not to make your paying guests celebrating a birthday feel like they are a burden, and maybe they’ll come back... and maybe they’ll recommend it to others. Unfortunately, not these guests.
Too bad, because the view is really great.
I wish we got our waiters name, either way everything was perfect!
Always a great place for food, city views and great service. A pleasure to dine at Bali Hai.
Sit on the deck or you cannot have a conversation! Inside is VERY noisy!!! But I love this place.
The ocean views are spectacular. The food was impressive. The service attentive and professional. We will be back!
Had to laugh at the service part as we did the Sunday brunch buffet which is self service. Other than that, it was, once again, all we expected. We’ve been going there for seven years and have seen the price double but it’s still a value considering what is offered. First time booking a seating through open table but suspect it won’t be the last.
