We attended a wine tasting French and Italian. Appetizers were unusual and perfect. The wines selected were outstanding The two experts were the best in STL John Gazzoli excelled as expected. Wonderful evening
Very good value for three courses and no corkage fee.
Good was excellent, the server was outstanding, contentious was didn't hover, the casual ambience was what we wanted. Ourall, we had a superb anniversary meal.
We came for the Morel Pasta and it did not disappoint. Jasmin was the perfect waiter. We'll be back soon!
We always look forward to the morel mushroom pasta dish that Balaban’s offers during the spring. We we’re not disappointed this year, the dish was excellent !! However we think the $30.00 price tag is high. We had guest from Kansas City in and my buddy ordered the steal special. The steak was not that good and certainly was not worth $40.00. Everything else was excellent, we had real good service and good wine. We will continue to go to Balaban’s it just a classy place & a fun place to have wine.
This was our first time at Balaban's. It was delicious! We will definitely go back.
Our server Jasmine is excellent as always.
Small and intimate. Food was very good. Very good wine list and retail wine store.
Minimal service staff. Food was okay, but not spectacular. Took 15 minutes or more to get our drink order in......ordered food at the same time because of the delay and movie time pending. Wasn’t that busy when we arrived, but became busier quickly. Clearly need another server on a Friday evening.
Great food and service
The food was delicious. We loved the wine. I like the idea of small plates to share.
Happy Hour is a great value for meeting a couple of colleagues and making it affordable.
Great service and the food is AMAZING. We have eaten here twice now and can't wait to go back.
Much enjoyed the Orin Swift wine dinner. The menu was quite good, food was well prepared and nicely presented. Always a pleasure to dine and add something to my knowledge of wines. Kudos to Jasmine.
Love love this restaurant. The wine selection is great and very reasonable, the food is always great, especially the seafood specials and fresh veggies, and their servers are very attentive and thorough, especially Jasmine. This is not a place to just drive by!!! xoxo
Table was too small for 3 and in a high traffic area. This place is good on a week night but they can’t seem to handle a heavy crowd.
Food was excellent. Waitress had whole room so service was spotty.
We had a great meal and had wonderful service. Our server, Jasmine, has recommended many wines to us and they have all been outstanding. She is very knowledgable and helpful.
We are looking forward to many future meal at Balaban's.
The restaurant was not full, however we ended up being sat between two couples, very close. We could hear their conversations, every detail. We were so close to the other tables that the waitress could not stand by our table to get the order...she stood behind my husband. The scallops that I ordered were raw, cold in the middle. I took those home to be reheated at another time. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed.
First time in. Waitress did not tell us the wine we picked from the menu would have a corkage fee. She also said nothing about the wine that was for sale in the display racks and I didn’t realize I could choose one of those over what was on the menu.
Creative and interesting menu. Service was little spotty but overall pleasant staff. The Waygu hamburger was $24! It was good but not that good. Lesson learned. Love being able to choose wine from the rack
Our server Jasmine was wonderful... fun, engaging, knowledgeable and attentive.
As always, dinner was terrific! We like the trout and corn pancake. We get it every time we go to Balabans. Always a good place to go for a quiet and quality dining experience.
Three girls out to lunch, each of us enjoying our meals Two of us started with the gumbo (soup of the day) which was absolutely delicious and spiced perfectly. Two of us had specials - the salmon sandwich and the gyro both with sweet potato chips. One word: YUM. Our third friend ordered a large salad, which was LARGE! Throw in a couple of glasses of wine...and we had a great Girls Lunch at Balaban's. Will return!
My wife visited Balabans for the Monday night dinner special. We both ordered the halibut 3 course dinner. The food was excellent, including my wife’s salad and my outstanding bowl o& gumbo. Great dessert options were also available. We selected the profiteroles, sharing one portion and taking the other home. Another wonderful bonus, is being able to select a bottle of wine from the shelf/cooler and not having to pay a corkage. Our server was great, courses were served in a timely fashion, plates were cleared quickly and wine was poured. Couldn’t ask for a better weekday meal out.
Birthday dinner for our “tribe” was a huge success! Very quiet (until we got there!” Great service and loved our food.
One of our favorites for meeting with friends. Interesting choices for everyone.
Reservation was honored. Jasmine our server was attentive and friendly. Salads were excellent. Dinner was excellent however the Salmon portion was small.
We will dine here again.
It was a delicious meal with wonderful service! We did ask for a table by the window, as we were the first in the restaurant and were told it is computer generated so we had to have the table the computer assigned us.( we thought that was a little crazy!)
Not our best experience. We went New Year’s Eve and even with a fixed menu and an understanding we would not get the best this evening, it was less than we hoped. The staff was busy and jumping, so I didn’t mind when our 2nd course come while we were 1/2 way into the 1st., but when the main course arrived it was way past a reasonable period of time that you would expect. This was still acceptable until the duck my wife ordered could not be found. There were 4 - 5 shredded pieces covered by the sweet potato nuggets (appeared to be a reheated frozen product) as part of the dish. The amount duck on her plate was equivalent to the portion of one Chicken drummy on her plate. Tough evening for a restaurant to predict and if I didn’t drop $250 into the meal I wouldn’t care so much. We did have a minor discussion with our waitress but she was to busy to do much with it. Spending money on a good meal is always worth it to me but if you can’t fill the order you shouldn’t have to pay full price. Hopefully our next experience is better.
The restaurant was very busy NYE and very noisy. It was hard to hear each other. There was a prix fix menu. I chose sweet potatoes in duck confit, and it was delicious, particularly the duck. i savored every bite. My partner chose hanger steak. He was not as enamored by the food as I was.
it was New Year’s Eve dining. Ryan our waiter was excellent. The food was good. I would recommend to our friends.
Excellent New Year's Eve dinner, great food at a great price, excellent wine selection.
Awesome service and the food is amazing every time. Very nice wine list as well. We bring friends here often and they always rave about it.
Food was wonderful. Ambience lacking.
Food is always original and tasty! We always enjoy our meals. The trout pancake is always a favorite.
The best fresh Sunday Brunch ten til two. Best waiters. Best wine YOWSA we are moving in for sure. Neighborhood gem. Daily specials. Yummmmmm. Thanks for a special time.
We Went there for the duck, but it was no longer on the menu. It was probably the best thing on the menu. Hope they bring it back. We had the lamb chops and they were excellent.
Why this place isn't packed every night is beyond me. The food is always perfect. It looks very good when presented. Service is great. The only...only knock...you are in a retail setting somewhat. For the food and consistency, who cares? I bought a bottle of $20 wine from the store. $8 corkage fee. No big deal.
The service was great and the food was delicious. It was very loud so I probably wouldn't choose it for a business dinner again.
