Really great ambiance and food. Went there with a friend for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised at how great the service, drinks, and food were. Will surely be back!

Michael was awesome. He knows the ins and outs of the restaurant, food and specifically their menu. We will be back that’s for sure. Thank you!

Been to Baku several times, especially for their brunches, but today was our least favorite. Seems less and less quality is offered, the advertised beef filet was ‘just’ a NY strip, the shrimp tempura and vegetable entree included only one shrimp. Miss the table-side presentation from appetizer to desserts — the buffet cheapens the experience for me.

Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful. Sara the GM was tremendously attentive and kind. The filet skewers with asparagus were phenomenal. We also enjoyed the scallops and the Kawasaki rolls. Two thumbs up. We will be back

Great food and drink. Staff was very knowledgeable and ready to give recommendations. We always enjoy this style of restaurant but it’s even better when you get good recommendations to get you outside your comfort zone. The only thing that we didn’t love were the roasted mushrooms, could have used a little more flavor.

Once again, Michael our server went above and beyond. My son has celiac disease, so must be gluten free, and Michael, the chef, and the GM (can’t remember her name) made sure all our selections were prepared that way. A true blessing and treasure in Charlotte. Also, our Sake selection, Born Gold, they were out of, and the GM said she would run to their other store to get some. Exceptional customer service!!
Thank you again for a wonderful evening, we will see you again soon.
I should also mention the food!!! Amazing selection, talented staff, amazing taste and presentation. Congrats for having one of the best places in Charlotte, keep up the good work!

Baku used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte. It was always a hopping place with amazing food you didn't get anywhere else served with ambiance. Having been away from the city for a few years, we decided to give our old haunt a try. The food was very average (in fact in some cases seeming like something heat-and-serve off of the Sysco food delivery truck.) For a restaurant that spotlights it's robata charcoal grill, the food was not particularly hot nor displayed the signature charring.

Service was ambitious, but inconsistent with slow delivery and spotty coverage. Music was loud and not necessarily appropriate.

Sadly, I don't think we'll be back. There are simply too many good restaurants out there to change wasting a meal on a bad experience.

Excellent food - original and interesting without straining to be different or overpowering natural flavors. “Small” plates were larger than most small plate/tapas style restaurants, e.g., beef had 12 slices, more than enough to share among my 3 person party. That beef was the best we had ever tasted and truly melt in the mouth tender. Waiter Zach was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly without being intrusive. He even called to say I left my umbrella behind. We were celebrating a special occasion and went all out with extra plates, drinks, and dessert. Still the bill was over $200 for 3. We felt the experience was worth it - were still discussing the food days later- but Baku is not your average night out.

We were on vacation visiting Charlotte for the weekend and looking for a good Japanese restaurant when we chose Boku because of the proximity to our hotel. Boy was this a mistake, stay clear away!

First the hostess was super rude and impolite as we were seated at our table, which immediately gave me a bad feeling of what our dinner night was shaping up to. At first glance, Boku seems to be a more polished type of dining experience but nothing can be further from the truth.

We ordered: steamed shrimp shumai, pan fried pork dumplings, traditional miso soup, Baku salad, snow crab & salmon roll, lobster roll, spicy steak fillet, roasted duck... Besides the house salad and shrimp shumai, everything else was not edible and the steak and duck came out raw after waiting over 30 minutes for food to come out.

I will not keep drawing out the horrible experience here because I dont want to write a book on this platform but I can tell you with honest truth that this establishment is highly disappointing and completely overpriced for the quality of food and dining experience you receive.

If you're used to dining out at fine restaurants and our looking for quality, especially at the $$$-$$$$ level, stay away from here. I'm sure Charlotte has better Japanese restaurants than this horrible place.

The food was very good. I don't think our waitress was as knowledgeable as she could have been. Never told us about any specials. We overheard the waiter at the other table telling his guest. But overall it was a good experience would reccomend it to my friends.

Love the atmosphere but prices are way too expensive. Rock Shrimp Tempura is pretty pricey for about 10 pieces of shrimp. Steak Robata had to be cooked more even though we asked for medium, middle pieces were closer to rare.

My current problem with this restaurant is the new portion size of the food ! I did take two additional meals home and my Bill came to $ 98.87 ( Tax of $ 5.87 included ) , and I left a $ 20.00 tip !

In my many past meals at Baku, The Blue Fin Toro appetizer ( $ 22.00 ) was served as three small pieces -- This visit -- only two ( Waiter stated that it was because of the grade of Tuna being much higher than before -- thus raising the cost ) , ---- He ( the waiter ), told me that the Scallop Entree I ordered ( $ 29.00 ) would contain 3 pieces of # 10 size scallops and when the order came ---- There were 4 scallops / smaller in size ! I took home two separate Tempura Prawns with tempura vegetables meals ( $ 14.00 each ) ...and when I got home .....there were only two Prawns in each meal , when in the past , there were four in each meal !

The food was good but smaller portions ! I did enjoy my Manhattan ( $ 14.00 ) before the food arrived !

The food was good. Very small portions presented tapa style. It is expensive for the portion size. The restroom on the first floor was out of order. Had to walk to the second floor and wait five minutes in a hallway to use the restroom.

The food was great and so was the atmosphere. We went there for my husband’s birthday and the waitress didn’t even acknowledge that. She also seemed annoyed at all of our questions, although her suggestions were delicious. When I went to the bathroom, 3 of the male waiters were watching a video that said something crude. I don’t really care it’s just an expensive meal and I didn’t expect it for the vibe. The hostesses were very smiley and sweet. Overall, it was good food, good sake, nice lighting and atmosphere...but, a little overrated in my opinion. Next time we’ll prob just go OKU
