Amazing experience! As a fellow restaurateur, our standards are high. They did not disappoint! The female manager (sorry I forgot her name) was outstanding. She had a passion for what she is selling. Her knowledge of the food and the sake was inspiring and interesting. What an example she is for others in the field. The blue fin tuna was my favorite. I also got a bit daring and tried the sea urchin with truffle and a raw quail egg. Simply delicious!
Amazing waitress - Jewel. So kind and informative. Food was outstanding.
Five stars every time! The servers are always knowledgeable and have great recommendations. Must try the pork belly, Korean spicy tuna, hamachi crispy treat. The key lime & yuzu dessert is amazing. Our favorite part was the secret sushi menu that has sake specials and fish flown in earlier this evening. Will be back sooner than later.
great food, excellent service. awesome sake selection.
We went for Queen's Feast so the price of the food was set ($35), paying extra for drinks and dessert. The food was wonderful - all the dishes were tasty and beautifully presented. We both ordered the pear martini and it was delightful. The dishes we ordered were: Korean spicy tuna roll, calamari (cut from the steak in wide strips), fried pork dumplings (2 thumbs up!), crispy brussel sprouts (2 thumbs up!) rice krispy squares with hamachi paste and jalapeño slice. For dessert we shared a Yasu Key Lime pie slice.
The regular menu prices are a bit high but we will go back. The chance to try some of the dishes out made us want more.
Food was amazing start to finish service was a 11 out of 10, can not wait to go back! Get the pork belly for real
Our service was pretty slow and maybe it's because we went on restaurant week but our food was pretty bad aside from the appetizer
We went to Baku during Restaurant Week. The food is always good.
First time in restaurant. Went for Friday night during Restaurant Week. Wanted to use it to try menu. First 2 courses were underwhelming. Main course was good but even at Restaurant Week pricing was overpriced for what they offered. Service was fine and ambiance good. We needed to try the sushi but did not. Maybe next time.
Love the atmosphere
We haven’t been to Baku in over 2 years and unfortunately realized that was a good thing. The food was good but the overall experience was not. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary, and let the restaurant know when we made the reservation. We did not expect any special treatment, nor did we receive any or even an acknowledgement of this special occasion.
We went for Restaurant Week but didn’t actually take advantage of the special menu. We wanted to try the sushi and it was very good. There’s also a lot of variety to choose from. The service was great and the restaurant’s decor is pretty cool. We look forward to going back.
Thoroughly enjoyed every dish we ordered for restaurant week. In addition to the restaurant week menu we ordered some nigiri sushi & desert, which was all excellent as well, especially the sushi.
Service was great and combined with the excellent food made our evening one to remember!
Everything was outstanding: quality/presentation of food, service, ambiance, etc. The salmon belly sashimi and grilled rosemary tuna sashimi literally melted in your mouth!! A little pricey for everyday, but I will definitely go back in the near future!
Food was excellent. Service was quick. Cost was a little high but the quality of the food was well worth it. I am looking forward to going there again.
Food was good but not really good enough to deserve a second visit, given all of the other restaurants available in Charlotte. Service was decent but could have been better. Tapas-style serving where small plates of food came out when it was ready was different but nice. Overall, there’s just too many restaurants in Charlotte to return to Baku if the food is just good and not spectacularly out of this world.
#MarriedDateNight - Service was amazing from start to finish. Our server Michael was exceptional and I don’t use that term lightly. Food got better with every round. Highly recommend the Spicy Filet. We will be back.
We dined on the first night of Queens Feast restaurant week. Our entire table (6 people)ordered from the special menu. All of us were very happy. The waiter did an exceptional job in asking their bartender to re-create a drink that I had seen posted on their website which wasn’t being offered currently (called a Japanese Slipper). I had two of them – they were delicious! The only issue we had was that it was extremely hot inside the restaurant so we went elsewhere for dessert. But all of Charlotte is hot these days so I wouldn’t hold that against them. Just go early!
I hadn’t been here in a couple years. Can’t believe they took the scallops with foie gras off the menu. That was the best thing they had. And the tempura shrimp had way too much breading. Crab legs weren’t like the old style either. And not as good. Lower quality? Seems like my former fave has gone downhill. Disappointing.
This was our third or fourth visit to Baku and every time has been better than the previous. This place never disappoints and always blows be away with the quality of food, attention to detail, and the service. I have traveled the world and eaten sushi from Tokyo to San Francisco, to Hawaii, including some of the most famous restaurants around and Baku stands shoulder to shoulder with all of them. The dumplings, Yakitori, and the Tatsutage Chicken were all exceptional, but the Sushi was that highlight. We got the Omakase which was 10 pieces of the chef's choice nigiri and it was nothing short of amazing. Every bite was perfectly portioned with just the right fish to rice ratio. Each piece was as beautiful to look at as it was to eat. If you go let Sara choose the saki for you and you will be so glad you did. She is as delightful as she is knowledgeable about sake. It's expensive, but worth every penny!
My wife and I came here for dinner on Saturday night. We are regulars and love this place. This time it was a little more special because Michale waited on us. He knows the menu and past items they have carried and loved by sushi lovers very well. He got us a sushi roll that wasn’t even on the menu and we absolutely loved it. If you want to get a deeper view and taste into their menu ask for him or book a table under his name and you will have a great time. This place never fails to please. It’s consistent and on point!
My experience at Baku was just amazing. Everything we ordered, the drinks, appetizers, entrees to the desserts were all outstanding!
The service and staff were all pleasant and wonderful.
This is my new favorite spot in Charlotte to eat!
Very good food even if the menu is not very clear. Very Good service. I would just have expected more lounge music rather that the playlist I use for my workout.
It remains one of my favorite place in Charlotte.
This was my first time seated upstairs. I felt it was too loud. The service was good but not what we experienced on our previous first dinner at Baku. We will probably return, but I hope to have better timing on apps and dinner item delivery and a more experienced server with consideration of the price point.
Food was ok, but we have had better experience in other visits.
The place wasn’t very clean.
Delicious food, generous portions for small plates, attentive service - but all with a pricey bill.
This is not one that my wife and i would return to. The food service was incredibly slow and many people that night complained to the manager on duty while we were dining. Way over priced as well.
Michael was so helpful with creating the best dining experience my daughter and I could have imagined. Her birthday at Baku was so much more than eating out, it was a night to remember.!
Charlotte is truly fortunate to have a restaurant like Baku. There aren’t many evolved and articulated Japanese restaurants anywhere, especially with such an incredible sake menu that are as well executed as Baku. Their menu from sushi and sashimi to Robata style grilling is incredible. Their presentation ranges from smartly elegant to theatrical. Their cocktails are well thought out and expertly composed. Their staff is knowledgeable.
It’s our go to place for when we have a great occasion that absolutely must be celebrated flawlessly. The city would not be the same without it.
Unfortunately I was far from impressed - thinking that this will be a fine Japanese restaurant.
Was advised not to have champagne by the glass because they don’t make any money and bottle they had was a few days old.
Yakitori was full of sugar despite me telling the waiter I don’t want any sweet dressing.
Air conditioning wasn’t working.
Food was average at the most. Fried chicken came uncooked.
Really great ambiance and food. Went there with a friend for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised at how great the service, drinks, and food were. Will surely be back!
Michael was awesome. He knows the ins and outs of the restaurant, food and specifically their menu. We will be back that’s for sure. Thank you!
Been to Baku several times, especially for their brunches, but today was our least favorite. Seems less and less quality is offered, the advertised beef filet was ‘just’ a NY strip, the shrimp tempura and vegetable entree included only one shrimp. Miss the table-side presentation from appetizer to desserts — the buffet cheapens the experience for me.
Delicious food and cozy environment. Great for a special occasion
Amazing as always
It was our first time at Baku and we will definitely be back. The food and service were incredible.
Wait staff and managers were AMAZING. Every one of them actively engaged patrons. Would highly recommend. Great ambiance!!!
Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful. Sara the GM was tremendously attentive and kind. The filet skewers with asparagus were phenomenal. We also enjoyed the scallops and the Kawasaki rolls. Two thumbs up. We will be back
Best server in Charlotte, Michael, took great care of us. Great sushi, sashimi and cocktails. Quality of fish is outstanding - so fresh and tasty. Top 3 restaurant in CLT.
