Wonderful, friendly people, who provided ok service. Didn't seem to have enough personnel on hand to make it good. Huge portions on the food, but it was only ok. My Croque Madame arrived with its fried egg with the white still uncooked. Servers was nice about my comment, took it back to the kitchen, and it came back to me still with uncooked, slimy white. She took it back and this time it arrived back cooked, so much so that the yolk was smashed and cooked to death. As for the rest of the sandwich, it was smothered in goopy sauce. I don't recommend this dish! There were other things on the menu that looked appealing, should have tried on of them instead. The place is charming, so the ambiance is very nice -- but the food, at least based on my experience, don't expect anything really good here. (My companion had a salad, and she didn't seem very enthused about it as well.)
Really good, classic bistro food such as you find in neighborhood restaurants in Paris. Small, friendly, personal. I gave 5 stars not because it's high-end gourmet food, but because it does an excellent job at being what it claims to be--authentic, traditional French food. You can get your onion soup, snails, mussels, steak frites, boeuf bourgignon, duck à l'orange, etc.; have crème brulée, chocolate mousse, profiteroles, tarte tatin, isle flotant for dessert, maybe with an espresso chaser, and go away happy. Salads are tasty and generous and not just plain green; e.g., they do one with warm goat cheese and a really interesting one called "southwest," and they don't mean New Mexico; it comes with smoked duck breast and paté. The bar is not extensive (no campari the night we were there) but the wine list is solid.
I have been bringing friends over the years to introduce them to this restaurant. The service is impeccable, the food is always excellent, and consistently prepared with great care. The prices for a French restaurant are more than reasonable and there are 3 or 4 specials on top of the regular menu.
I enjoyed sharing the dishes from my country of origin. It is the only place I know that serves Ile flottante as a dessert, a dish my grand mother was making me when I was a child.
We returned from Paris earlier this week; still tired from our trip, decided not to cook and popped over to Baker Street Bistro (BSB) for San Francisco’s version of the food we’d been eating for the past couple of weeks. The food at BSB was fantastic, service prompt, atmosphere relaxed and the cost very reasonable. If the wine were a bit cheaper I’d say the most restaurants in Paris had nothing on BSB.
Went there before the Symphony. Our reservation was for when they opened at 5:30, so we were the first customers. Nice menu, delicious duck, attentive service. I was expecting difficult parking, but we were able to park two blocks away on the street. I’d go again in a heartbeat.
We have eaten at Backer Street Bistro two times and were impressed by the menu selection ambience, and service. It reminded us of an authentic French bistro. Neighborhood location. No problem parking on Friday night. Reservations were at a peak time and made four hours earlier.
What a disappointment. I have been going there for years and this time everything was not up to par. Something was wrong. The chicken salads were most disappointing. I felt the chicken was frozen and prepared the day before. I will give them one more chance.
We had a delicious dinner here before attending a show at the Palace of Fine Arts. The Baker Street Bistro has been in business for at least 28 years in the Marina, so they are doing something right! Very French, cosy and delicious food. Staff was very nice. \
This was a one of kind restaurant tucked into the neighborhood just outside the Presidio. All French, including the wines. The French-onion soup was excellent. I had the Boeuf Bourguignon and my companion had the Saumon Rôti. Both were delicious. We came on a special occasion after attending a performance at the Palace of Fine Arts which is an easy 4 block walk away. And there is good parking in the old Letterman Hosp underground garage just 2 blocks away, if you don't want to risk getting your car dinged in tight street parking. This was a unique and enjoyable dining experience, which we recommend.
We got there at 7:30 and while it wasn't very busy they had sold out of the prix fixe meal which we were planning on. Apparently they have a limited number of those each night so if that is your plan, go early.
The duck confit was very good though for the price, getting one leg seemed a little short, but, I did not leave hungry. My wife got the chicken breast in a ginger sauce which was surprisingly very high on the ginger flavor and very tasty!
Service was attentive and the food came out quickly. Wine by the glass selection was fine.
