I really think it's a great place to go once. The people are very nice but the menu is really limited and the drinks aren't that great. I really wish I could say that I love this place but I just like it. Its very pretty however.
The environment is so warm, relaxed and charming! Great place for an intimate dinner or a large group dinner!
Ambiance was fabulous, but the cost of the meal was very expensive and a bit overpriced.
Food sub par...
Ran out of an appetizer by 8pm.
Filet mignon had a weird taste hard to explain. Potatoes were hard, brussel sprouts mushy. Appetizer was smoked salmon stuffed mushrooms. I could of gone and bought better ones at the store.
Server was not so warm. Don't even know his name. It seemed like we were a hassle to even get a drink.
We had reservations showed up 7 mins early but still had to wait 30 mins.
Would not suggest going and waste of time.
Save your money and actually go to a nice high end restaurant in the area.
We went for Valentine’s Day dinner. To start, there was no parking available. We got there early and I was glad we did.. It took us about 15 min to find a spot and that only after stalking people to leave. The house is beautiful, there was a small wait for our table, about 15 min which wasn’t a big deal especially for Valentine’s Day weekend. The service was so slow. Not because he was a bad waiter, but it just seemed like there was so many tables he couldn’t keep up. We decided not to order from the bar because there was a huge back up. From start to finish we were there for almost 2 1/2 hours, it took about 20 min to get bread, 20 min for starter, almost 30 min for soup that was literally served in the smallest tea cup I’ve seen, but you can see the pattern. The food was ok but for $110 per couple, I had a little higher expectation. The entree was not hot but warm-ish and definitely not worth the money spent. Overall, I do not think we would return here. What we enjoyed most was the house and the history, but I could’ve saved a lot of money to just look around.
Very cool looking restaurant full of history. Cool for bachelorettes and couples. Good romantic atmosphere.
Yes it was Valentine’s Day. Yes it was busy. But that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. The server did not need keep reminding us how many tables he had.
My biggest problem with The Baker House is that this elegant and genteel space is more often than not staffed by employees that are decidedly NOT.
Great ambiance but entrée was barely warm when served.
Enjoyed a nice Valentine’s Day dinner in a cozy environment where it was quiet enough to have dinner conversation. Good food and service with a nice bar to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail. Would highly recommend!
What a beautiful, historic place. Food was delicious, one can peek around and admire all the unusual antiques and rooms, try on a hat or take in the atmosphere. Service was good but they seemed understaffed and a little rushed, and the wait was long for our meals but that was fine as it gave me more time to look around. It really is stunning.
Food was great but a bit pricey. Service was very slow.
Overall we loved Baker House. It was very charming with lots of history in the house itself. The food was excellent and the bartender was a great storyteller of the history. Would go back for sure.
The only disappointing part was the menu on open table was not up to date and half of the offerings were not available.
Wonderful atmosphere, great food (the prime rib was outstanding). A little pricey...but considering the location not terrible. Will definitely go there again.
$200 for 2 people with water for drinks... still left hungry. Such a great place... silly small portion sizes, only one piece of delicious bread per person... not allowed more... even if you pay! Lol - why wouldn’t you wanna sell bread if you own a restaurant? Management is new, they need to figure out a few things.
We arrived early so we could have a cocktail but the bar was full with no place to sit. We were able to get two drinks ordered and we were seated early so that helped. I ordered another cocktail from the table and it took at least ten minutes before it was served. I think the bar was overrun. Other than that everything was excellent. I had the seafood boil and my partner has the fish boil and it was the best we have ever had. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in town.
The menu on open table is not the same options offered at the restaurant. Do not plan your meal ahead of time - they don’t have it! Wish they had more options in the restaurant like a pasta dish.
I proposed to my fiance a year ago at Baker House and returned for our one year anniversary. The ambiance can't be beat and the food and service were amazing! They made our anniversary very special. I would highly recommend the Baker House for any occasion.
Excellent ambiance, pleasant staff and great tomato cream soup. While very sweet our server did not ask what temperature we wanted our steak at and The prime rib came out very, very well done. It’s not easy to enjoy overcooked steak, especially when it’s super chewy and hard. I’d recommend this restaurant more for the drinks than the food.
The place is beautiful with pleasant atmosphere. We used to come here every time we visit Lake Geneva. Usually the selection of food is rich. Besides egg bar they had soups, fish, wide selection of salads. We come here for New Year brunch and I was a disappointed with new food selection. For egg selection there was just scrambled eggs, for food only chicken with rice. I was hoping for punched eggs, crab cakes and fish that they used to have, but not this time. I wonder if that was just because of new year holiday or the place went through some changes.
There were 3 of us for dinner 12/26, 5pm. Perhaps a little early for the crowd. We got to put on many hats, hear all about the history of the Baker House. We all had the 6oz. Filet , and it was to "die" for, cut it with your fork tender. I had the mushroom soup, yum! The Brussel sprouts , oh my, so good. My eating companions had the salad with the house dressing, excellent. The desert was Lemon cake, double yummy and Chocolate mousse! Excellent. Not cheap, but well worth it. This place is amazing, just beautiful and nicely decorated for the Christmas season.
Celebrated a birthday with the Baker House brunch. It was fantastic. Food was wonderful and set up in different rooms. Everything we tried was great. Tables were pretty close together and we didn’t love that- a bit too crowded where we were sat. It’s a great place to go if you are looking for a special brunch.
Very different restaurant. If you like a little strange but fun atmosphere, great food and drinks, this is the place.
We arrived early & had a wonderful cocktail is the beautifully, decorated lounge. JC is a creative mixologist with such great energy. We had a party of 7 & had an entire room with a fireplace to ourselves. The fish boil, salmon & grilled chicken salad were all absolutely delicious! We shared two lemon cake desserts & they were also very tasty. We hope to return soon & would give 5 stars to our experience!!
It was our first time at Baker House. The ambiance is amazing! The history is so interesting. Which in fact the staff is very knowledgeable of. Our waiter was Greg. He is energetic, very attentive. He puts his heart and soul into his job and is very proud to be an important part of Baker House. He encouraged us to return for their Sunday brunch, which we are excited to try. Excellent food. And very reasonably priced. The hats added a special twist that put fun into our dining experience. Give Baker House a try. You’ll be glad you did. And you’ll have fun stories to tell your friends.
This was the first time we have attended the Sunday Brunch since the new owner has taken over. While the brunch was totally satisfactory, there are some changes that have occurred. Noticeable absent is the hot salmon plate was served in the front room. It was excellent and sorely missed. A positive change is the new location of the Omelet and Benedict bar to the front porch. There seems to be fewer salad offerings available as well. The greeting and server were excellent and thorough. We felt very welcome and will return. Hopefully the salad offerings will increase and the hot salmon dish will return.
A very welcoming atmosphere. Greg, our server, was EXCELLENT. He could not do enough to make our evening enjoyable.
We have been going to baker house for years, and are glad the new owners continued the restaurant under the same name. It’s a really great space! Unfortunately the menu on open table is not up-to-date and upon arrival, we learned the actual menu is very heavy and consists mostly of seafood and steak. We were going to order a salad and we were told there would be a $10 sharing charge. This is unacceptable. We finished our drinks and left without ordering any food (the drinks were good). This menu is too limited and quite over-priced. Hopefully the owners will realize this and make the necessary adjustments.
The food was excellent, setting was unique due to the history of the mansion. Our waiter while provided great service was not well verse in the nightly specials or the soup of the day. We think he was fairly new to the establishment.
It was great. The food was good and the atmosphere was fun. The waitress was attentive, and I ate too much.
The food is so awesome, I just wish there was more of it on the plate. Even my daughters, one is a model and the other a dancer, wish there was more food on the plate. Not to stereotype, but this isn’t exactly advertised as food nouveau. A 2 ounce serving a boiled fish isn’t gonna fill anybody... but it was an outstanding start!
Ps: wear a hat, it makes the food taste better😉
This brunch is amazing! From the food to the decor to all the fun hats, it was the such a great experience. Highly recommend!
Great restaurant and amazing historic house!
We arrived early for our reservation, as we wanted to get a drink in the bar. We were able to get seated early. Everyone from the hostess to the wait staff & bartender were all very friendly.
I had put on our reservation that we were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. They brought 2 glasses of champagne to our table. ❤️
I had the fish boil (cod) with new potatoes & veggies, my husband had the prime rib. Both entrees were delicious.
Incredible experience! Definitely a place we Will be back to soon!
We went for Sunday brunch and out of 3 of us that ordered at the omelet bar our orders were 100% incorrect. Further, even when we got the corrected orders two of ours had to be redone twice. They opened at 9:30 a.m. but half the food was not out. They would only put a plate of bacon out at a time and we had to ask to have it crispy as it was all done non-crispy. We go here every year and this was the first year we experienced this. Servers were great and helped us get our orders corrected and bacon crispy. Food was good overall.
Very romantic setting. The management and staff were very accommodating when we asked to move to a different table. The food was good and was served on/in antique dishes. Portions were good.
Food was amazing. I was hoping that they were tell me a little bit about the mansion and offer a hat for me to wear., As I hear it is a custom to doing. That did not happen. The mansion was beautiful but they were playing the Rolling Stones loudly in a house that is meticulously kept up to a traditional late 1800s appeal. It was very distracting to the ambience of our special occasion
The Baker House is a must when visiting Lake Geneva. Perfect for those special occasions. Our server, Tara, was very knowledgeable about the menu items and provided the perfect blend of selections. We look forward to our next visit which will include the Baker House
