The food was excellent. The service was spectacular. The front porch is amazing to eat on you feel like you’re stopping in a different time. We stayed at the Baker house last year and we just ate there this year and we will go back every year as a tradition. The brunch with bottomless Mamosa’s is amazing highly recommend.

Beautiful restaurant but menu limited and food not representative of the quality you would expect at this cost. Specifics: rolls were plain and dry. Soup was sent back because of a huge abundance of salt, salads were oversized and very plain and entrees were slightly above average.

Baker HouseResponded on December 2, 2022JohnA, we are increibly sorry that you had a bad experience, especially with our food! Please accept our apologies, and let us know if you ever want to try us again. We'd love a second chance to serve you. Thank you for your honesty. Our waiter was not very complete in his offerings to us. We overheard several suggestions offered to the table next to us that were not offered to us by the same server. This would have been nice to hear prior to our ordering. The desserts were outstanding and better than I expected. I understand that places are short staffed right now but I would have expected a more consistent presentation at what I would consider a fine dining establishment They definitely need more lighting in their parking lot. It was very dark and we were parked right in front of the entrance, not off in some far back area of the parking lot.

Food was over cooked. We had reservations and there were only 3 other tables including ours and it took 20-25 minutes in between each item dropped off. Waitress was outside when we left yelling on her cellphone no wonder everything took so long too distracted. Meal was waaaaaaaay overpriced for the quality. We will never go back.

It was amazing to be sitting in The historic Baker House. Our overall experience was good. A couple things that was a bit of disappointment was our soup was Luke warm and roasted red potatoes had too much salt. We felt cost was high for the meal.

My husband and I had the good fortune of dining at the Baker house. He started out with the Rainmaker cocktail, which he loved. I had Strawberry Fields, which I loved, too. We both had She Crab Soup topped with caviar. Very impressive and delicious. I had a filet, so tender I actually cut it with a butter knife. My husband had the scallops in a carbonero sauce with couscous and mixed vegetables, carrots and brussels sprouts. He said it was one of the best dishes he ever ate. For desert we shared a lavender infused crème brulee. We complimented the chef, and he actually came to the table to thank us. Matt Jaye’s dinner music was absolutely perfect for us. It was a real treat in Lake Geneva!

Disappointing The hostess who greeted us was not very welcoming. Also had no real concept of what gluten free items might be. Since we are gluten-free people, we were unable to have any of the desserts since all contained gluten. The young "chef" in the bar had only been there a few weeks, but did an ok job on the omelet, but there were no vegetarian options other than cold tater-tots. So we had an omelet (no toast available) and some fruit only. There was no evidence of the "Chef's Featured Entree " which, according to the menu online, included chicken. This was not offered. The menu also offered "unlimited champagne" which was not offered by the server. When she brought the bill, it was for $55 per person. The website stated $42. We complained, as did the folks at the next table. She took our bills in a surly manner and said she'd she what she could do. Made us feel like we were asking for some special treatment. The bill was eventually adjusted. What a hassle and it added to a disappointing morning. Great ambience, though. Won't be back and cannot share a positive experience with our friends (we are locals).

Horrible! 35 min before we were helped. 2.5 hrs for steak to arrive. I had to go complain to the host to get the waitress to open her eyes but already too late. 3 hrs total, steak was cold and on bed of cold mashed potatoes, boring steamed carrots and broccoli that’s it?

The overall ambiance was neat to experience. However, I don't think the service was exceptional. The original reservation was for a Friday evening but was called to change due to an issue with the menu which was totally fine since our party was flexible. However, when we dined on Saturday evening the service was slow and part of our main meal was burned (vegetables).

I placed the reservation 3 weeks prior to when I wanted to go. The day of my reservation they called to inform me that they are going through a transition period with their chef. I was told that they would have a very limited menu. No choices just beef short ribs and truffle fries. I was asked if I wanted to keep the reservation or make it for a later date. I was visiting from out of town with business clients. This was a huge inconvenience. With just hours to figure something out I was able to get reservations at another restaurant that was very grateful for our business.

I took my family there for the brunch. In the past I have loved the Baker House but in this case you could tell how the current economic situation is wearing on the business. They opened late, the food quality was just okay, and the price was steep for what they had available. I will give them another try, but missed the mark.

As a person who enjoys a breakfast buffet and has a relatively low standard relative to enjoying them, this was an extreme disappointment. All of the breads were dried out. When tried to split a bagel it crumbled. Similarly the eggs Benedict English muffin was all dried out as well as the French toast which usually the problem is it being too soggy. Mimosas were warm although it was bottomless. Their servers did their very best but in the end both my wife and I were very disappointed

Just an okay experience. Brought a friend for her birthday. Which was mentioned when making the reservation, it was not acknowledged. 2 dining companions had the tuna and did not enjoy it. I had salmon that came with the same sauce as the chicken. The place looked dull & dingy. The glass top of our table had a big piece missing and was very scratched up and unappealing. Jeremiah, our sever, was pleasant and attentive.

We had dinner at the Baker House. The food was good but not the best meal I have ever had. I had ordered a beet salad and was told there were no beets but then the table next to me ordered the same salad and was brought it with beets. Our server was not super attentive even though the dining room was not super busy. We waited a long time between courses. I got a special they had that was basically shrimp carbonera. It was good but not the best pasta meal I have had. I woudl give this place another shot though. The people watching was great and the entertainment made up for the food and service.

Unfortunately our experience at The Baker House left a lot to be desired. We arrived about 15 min early. The hostess informed us our table was not ready. No problem, we told her we'd wait at the bar. After finishing our cocktails my husband checked on the status of our table. At first he was told we didn't have a reservation , then he was told that our table was given to another party. The hostess eventually seated us but seamed very annoyed. After seating us she let us know that there were several items on the menu no longer available. No problem we selected different entrees. My husband ordered a steak to be prepared medium well and it arrived medium rare. He sent it back and the waitress acted like it was our fault. I have been to the Baker House many times before. I've hosted a brunch birthday party that was amazing. Unfortunately our experience this time fell far below our expectations . Each and every person that walks through that door should be treated as a guest at the house, not a Nuisance.

Waited 2 hours for our food. After an hour we asked for our check, we were reassured that our food would be there in 10 minutes, waited another hour and didn’t see our server. Offered us a free drink for our experience. We don’t drink. Saw our server 5 times the entire meal. Food was awful, not hot when we finally got it, stale bread on sandwiches, undercooked fish. Overall just a terrible experience for way way way too high a price. I will never ever return.

Not enough help on a Saturday evening in July. The server (who was wonderful) also had to be the hostess. Meal took 45 minutes to come. My wife's NY Strip ($57) ordered medium rare came out well done. It had already been cut open. The promised brusell sprout leaves were not in stock -- something they did NOT tell us before receiving the order! Got the boring green beans and mashed potatoes that came with filet -- one reason she didn't order it. My wife was hungry and ate it. Didn't want to wait another 45+ minutes to get replacement. None of it was the overworked server's fault. The watermelon blueberry cold soup was excellent.

I understand that there are staffing shortages. Our waiter was extremely busy. The food was very good. The entrance to the restaurant was confusing. We went up the front steps and the door was locked. We witnessed several other groups do the same. We finally found the side entrance. Our table was in the front overlooking the outside seating area which was nice, but the table was over two cents that were blasting cold air.

The steak was not a $54 steak. Gibson's in Chicago is a $54 steak. I didn’t like three women being addressed as, "Hi guys!"…this is a lovely restaurant, behave accordingly; it isn’t Applebee's. The fondue was bland. The cheesecake was from Eli's, and previously frozen. The ambience was lovely, however. The home was beautiful—the former Wrigley mansion. The view alone was worth the mediocre dining experience. More than likely, we won’t return.
