Worth every penny, the ambience was outstanding, represented the beautiful mansion in such a way that makes you want to come back. The food was excellent. The staff was attentive and every time you needed them they were right there with menu suggestions, drink suggestions and history of the building. We cannot wait until our next visit.

Baker House was really quite charming! The house was so beautiful, the tea selection was good, and generally, the person who served us was good! The best parts were definitely the house tour, along with the fun hats you got to wear during tea. The downside to our visit is that we had a few people in our group with dietary restrictions, and even though we called a bit ahead to ask if they could accommodate and they said they’d take care of it, the day of they seemed rather unprepared. We had a gluten free person and a diabetic. They had gluten free bread, but they had to defrost it for awhile so it took much longer for the gluten free snacks to come out. They really didn’t have much prepped for the diabetic either. They did pull together a plate of salmon and cucumbers, but for the price it was a little disappointing. HOWEVER, we could have also been at fault for this because we called the day before, we didn’t tell them right away that we were the group that had the dietary restrictions, and they did still give us food in the end (and it was tasty!). Therefore, maybe they could’ve had better communication on their end, but we also could have! Take this as you will, as it was still really fun for all of us!

So we’ve lived in the area for a long time and never tried it. It was absolutely a step back in time. They really tried to capture the essence of the early 1900s. The bar to start was very very cool. The menu is small, I’d recommend consulting it before you go. I had the salmon special which was great and my husband had the scallop special. Fun unique night that we really enjoyed.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. The only thing was that I made the reservations weeks in advance and a few days before our dinner we found out that there will be a “murder mystery “ starting an hour later. Our reservation was not part of it which made us feel rushed to leave as soon as the event started which was barely an hour after we were seated. This cut the celebration short. Although the food and service were great, I felt a little disappointed.

Good food, decent service, great location but way overpriced - $48 per person brunch. A more appropriate amount would be $30-$35 per person. Reservation was for 9:30 am brunch. Hot food items were not set out until a bit after 10 am. Not sure what the issue was but everyone was a bit harried and disorganized. Waitress offered salad, fruit and dessert which she said were ready. However, there were no serving utensils available. Food was very good though desserts did not taste homemade. Staff not well trained. I was given a cup of coffee. Drank most. Came w a pot to refill. Unfortunately I put in wrong sweetener. I asked if I could have another cup. Waitress was very gracious and brought me another cup but all she did was dump the coffee and gave me a refill in the same cup. I know this because the drips and my lipstick were still on the cup. A small thing but a new cup would have been the proper way to do this. Also she never offered my husband a refill. I realize this is a very old Victorian home but carpeting in foyer needs cleaned desperately or replaced.

Had to wait 30 minutes to sit down even though we had a reservation. Drinks were awesome, but was not well cooked or flavored. Not the quality food I expected for the price. That being said the desert was good. Also, had to wait over an hour for our food to come out. Waitress did comp me one drink for the wait. Very disappointing for a Valentines Day dinner with my wife.

My girlfriend’s meal did not come with the croutons which she was excited for. When asked for normal butter it came after we were done eating. The waiter never checked to see if we needed anything. I believe the staff all said that they normally don’t work there????? It showed. We’ve been excited to come to the Baker House for dinner and it was a let down.

I have never had worse service at a restaurant before - especially of this caliber. They sat us 30 mins late (we had a reservation). Our server checked in on us once every 30 mins. When I ordered something that was on the menu (grain bowl, add shrimp) he replied with "I can't do that. I'll get yelled at." The hostess said the "chef can get creative" for our kids and whip up some chicken tenders, pasta, etc...we ordered both with the waiter and he just shook his head and said it wasn't possible. It took 45 mins (FORTY FIVE MINUTES!) to received 2x glasses of wine and 1x beer from the bar. They never offered to comp us. It took another 30 for our food. There were no apologies, no attention to our table, and no offer of a comp or discount on anything. We will never be dining here again.

I love the Baker House and will go back no matter what. But they must have been extremely short-handed last night. Our waiter took forever to come back and forth, never checked on our dinners, and then jsut came back at some point with the check and never even asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. We then got a hold of someone who told us the desserts, but still - no waiter. finally, waiter came back about 20 min. later, we ordered dessert and coffee but the coffee actually never came so we forgot about it. Probably not the waiter fault as he was running all over the place. Food was great as always. let's hope for a better service experience next time.

We sat in front of the fire in the game room and enjoyed our exquisite cocktails and delicious dinner. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for a unique and delightful dining experience.

The Sunday brunch buffet was not worth the money. My husband got sick from it, which kept him near a bathroom for the next five hours. I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy, but the other offerings were either greasy or fatty. The made to order omelette was nice, but took about 25 minutes to receive. The orange juice was delicious, but overall nothing like it was when we were here 5 1/2 years ago when it was under other ownership. The inside was beautiful as always, so that part did not disappoint.

I never write a negative review unless it is really deserved. This is why I decided to write about the dinner at Baker House. We have had a place in Lake Geneva for 25 years and have dined at just about every restaurant during that time. We started going to this location over 20 years ago when it was "Gilbert's". Gilbert's was a fine restaurant with top quality food and service for many years. Since its closing the space had different venues from different restaurants to a Murder Mystery theme, etc. Last Friday evening we were driving thru town and notice how pretty the Baker House was lit up and my wife looked them up on the internet. The menu looked great and they highlighted their weekend Prime Rib special with a picture of a perfectly cooked prime rib. We made reservations for the next night. We went early so we could have a drink in the bar that was so beautiful when it was Gilberts. We walked in and it had bad smell and was worn out and had paint chips off walls. The bartender was very nice but we were glad they said our table was ready. The different rooms looked pretty and we sat at a table with a very nice server. We ordered a bottle of wine while we looked at the menu. The even gave us a card with the evening specials with the same great photo of the prime rib and also a special Filet Oscar too. I ordered the prime rib and my wife the filet Oscar. The Caesar salad and French onion soup were good. The main courses were absolutely terrible. The prime rib was grey in color and about a third fat. I had a tough time cutting a piece of meat and when I did it was grey on the outside and raw on the inside. This tells me the roast sat in the kitchen and when an order came in, it was microwaved. My wife's didn't come with crab meat on top but a mealy crab cake. The filet itself was not hot from a grill like it was premade and warmed up. I should have said something to the manager but we just wanted to go home. We spent over $300 with dinner and the bar drink. BAD!

Our group of 6 were all first timers and we couldn't stop talking about what a gem it was for the next 2 days. The Baker House is everything we could have asked for and so much more. Everywhere you look it's filled with beauty and charm. The warm and cozy atmosphere is great for a business dinner or a romantic getaway. The entire Baker House team is very knowledgeable on the history of the estate in addition to their robust offering of cocktails and entrées. The food is truly phenomenal. The chef even came out and spent some time with our table which is a treat on it's own. We all left very satisfied with the intention of returning in the very near future! I hope you enjoy!

Everything was great, food was fast, the only thing was the wine we ordered was billed at a different price when we got the bill. We did enjoy it and didn't question it. Also, we were asked if we were celebrating anything, we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, it would have been nice to receive a free desert or something.

Beautiful restaurant but menu limited and food not representative of the quality you would expect at this cost. Specifics: rolls were plain and dry. Soup was sent back because of a huge abundance of salt, salads were oversized and very plain and entrees were slightly above average.

Our waiter was not very complete in his offerings to us. We overheard several suggestions offered to the table next to us that were not offered to us by the same server. This would have been nice to hear prior to our ordering. The desserts were outstanding and better than I expected. I understand that places are short staffed right now but I would have expected a more consistent presentation at what I would consider a fine dining establishment They definitely need more lighting in their parking lot. It was very dark and we were parked right in front of the entrance, not off in some far back area of the parking lot.

  • Catering

We look to develop each event according to the needs of our clients so that the experience is amazing for all. Our Chef is versatile in most cooking styles with a preference for Contemporary American with a local flair but rest assured that each bite is delicious.

  • Private party facilities

Each of our elegantly furnished Parlors (Dining, Library, Music, Game and Porch) is able to host various events as well as the recently renovated exterior garden terrace. Baker House in conjunction with the Bella Vista (Adjoining property) can also host events holding up to 250 people in their facility.
