Food was cold, didn’t taste good, buffet was empty, server was not attentive. :(
My family attended the Sunday brunch at Baker House. Our server was excellent and the ambience was fantastic. However, the food was cold and dry. The chef was supposed to be available to make eggs Benedict and omelettes but acted put out when he finally appeared. He didn’t talk to any of the guests and stood against the wall looking at his phone while the eggs cooked. For $35 a person, the meal was very underwhelming.
The food didn’t have much flavor the food was cold and we had to wait a long time to get anything from the waitress
Food was all terrible. Wife got the seared tuna which was so well done it was rubbery. She also ordered a side of scallops which were very bland with no seasoning or sauce. I ordered the “colossal” shrimp which were 5 average size shrimp on top of the chewiest and stickiest risotto. Everything was disappointing and really expensive for what you got. Would not recommend at all!!
Great ambiance. Great steak. Friendly servers. Food took too long. No kids menu.
Food was mostly pasta and potatoes, not many breakfast items compared to lunch. It was ok overall, but not worth $35 a person. The highlight would have been the price rib if it wasn’t so overcooked.
Beautiful venue and good service, but we won’t be back due to the food.
Unique, outstanding food, great service. A little pricey, but perfect for a special occasion. Will definitely be back!
Hi Beth! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your recent experience at Baker House and look forward to your next visit!!
Sunday buffet was tepid, food needed more heat. Service was excellent.
Better access to the bar before the meal .. but tons of fun and a great old fashion
Excellent meal! Cocktails were done to perfection. Fondue to start was very good. Wish there were more choices to dip. NY strip and Shrimp entrees were top notch.
Nice peaceful experience with excellent service. Food was very good.
It’s was a disappointing experience for the price .
Brunch was terrible. All the pans were either empty or cold. Not worth $35
I didn’t like sitting outside of the main restaurant. It was
Like sitting in an enclosed porch. You felt forgotten out there.
Worst dining experience ever. Brought salad, appetizer and main course at the same time. Brought wine 10 minutes after food came. Brought it to the table opened and the wrong year. Tuna was ordered seared and it came well done (shoe leather?), waitress said chef yelled at her for bringing the tuna back. No bread, no water. Knife literally had dried food on it. Had to ask twice to replace. Sat 30 minutes waiting for desert. Then waited 30 minutes for bill. Then had trouble go to kitchen to pay bill when they were turning off lights 2.0 minutes later. At that point the chef was completely rude and just blamed things on Covid. Said I should be happy since they took food off the bill. Asked for the owners name and number to complain and chef refused. Told me to just call the main number. Hopefully owner will read this if restaurant does not close first.
In experience of wait staff. Ordered food to be served a certain way like salad first then entre with potato. Served entre first then salad the potato
Food was excellent. Atmosphere amazing. It was like stepping back in time. Everything is ala carte so expensive but well worth it!
Very cute place and atmosphere, however, we went on a night with a prix fixe dinner was just awful. We barely ate anything
Really great brunch for only $35. The historic mansion is fun to eat in and the staff make it fun. Plenty of hats for you to try on there and wear during your brunch. Nice selection of hot food and some cold offerings along with dessert. Bottomless mimosas and coffee are great as well.
We went for Sunday brunch. We were 15 minutes early for our reservation and were seated right away. Nice variety of salads, breakfast and lunch foods. They also had some desserts. The biscuits and gravy was outstanding. I never had a gravy that was so light in texture, but still quite flavorful. Would definitely go back next time we are in town.
We arrived on time on Sunday morning for a champagne brunch to celebrate our anniversary. People were still running around setting up the food buffet in the bar. This set up is tight and guests have to take the lids off each item making it awkward to make a plate. The food was not hot. The large pan of eggs, vegetables, and mashed weren't not even mildly warm. The bacon was cooked to death! It was burnt and dried out. It was very disappointing to pay $35 per person for a blah experience. We expected excellence and got cold eggs.
Amazing food and ambience but a $50 steak just fills you ( no doggie bag) love the new basement level
We went to the Baker House to celebrate a birthday. The ambiance is wonderful in this 1885 home. We were seated on the wrap around porch with stunning views of Lake Geneva. The wait staff were wonderful but spread thin - there was only one staff person that night. The food was excellent. I'd highly recommend the Baker House restaurant.
I was really looking forward to eating a Baker house and having a wonderful filet. The steak was so over cooked it was barely recognizable as a filet. When you pay $51 for a steak you expect it to be cooked properly. I let the server know and although he apologized he did nothing about it. Very disappointed in the whole experience.
My party of 4 was put right next to the only other table in the dining room. Waited 30 minutes for a waiter to arrive to take a drink order but never saw him. When we told the host we were leaving, he appeared relieved. The restaurant had a total of 3 other tables, all 2-tops
Ambience is great, food is good but very pricy.
I did not appreciate that the lobster plate was valued in the menu at market price, while in the web had a fix price.
Catch of the day should be a local fish from the lake; we were told the catch of the day was the yellowfin tuna!
We were seated on the porch overlooking the parking lot. One steak came out over cooked and the other cold. Service was super slow and the whole experience was 2 hrs. Not as good as it used to be.
Beautifully restored home from 1885. Was a pleasure to sit in a beautiful room next to the fireplace. Out of a number of food offerings, no bread available. High priced, poor quality and poor presentation. Server was very nice and tried but could not make up for high priced food that did not live up to it’s cost.
Fabulous setting and excellent food! Great bartending service (made wonderful mint julips!) and an obviously great chef, too.
Thank You for the positive review! We are glad you enjoyed your visit with us and look forward to the next one!
Excellent duck. Great location.
Thank You!! We are glad you chose Baker House and enjoyed your dinner. Looking forward to your next visit!
Exceptional Sunday brunch. Great variety of food. Mimosas were good,
We came to Lake Geneva for the weekend to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday. After reading the great reviews for the Baker House, specifically Sunday Brunch we chose it to close out the weekend before returning to home. It was an excellent choice! The atmosphere and food was just what we had hoped for. We were seated by the window with an awesome view of the lake. We will definitely be returning to the Baker house on our future visits to Lake Geneva! Nick, the chef/bar tender was very friendly and gave great historical information about the Baker House.
The service and ambiance is fantastic. The food is great although we didn’t care for the horseradish topping on the filet but it was still very good. The Baker House is beautiful and a must see!
Just not good food—lousy NY strip, blah potatoes, Caesar salad so drenched in dressing it was inedible. Noted it was a special anniversary and not even a mention. We won’t return.
We’re not seated until 20 minutes after reservation. Service was incredibly slow. Buffet food was cold and many items not refilled. Was told they closed at one o’clock and that was why things were low. However, had we been seated at the reservation time would have had an hour to eat our meal. I realize that staffing if difficult during Covid, however, what we pay for our meal has not been reduced. The meal was subpar.
Handicap door locked and inaccessible. Food was sparse, cold, and tasteless. Requested the music be turned down as we were under a speaker. Were told it couldn't be or it would go off.
The table "rocked" and a floor vent blew cold air on us. We were seated on the porch because they didn't clear an indoor table. Staffing shortage made for a delay in service.
Sunday brunch not worth the price. Service was spotty - good when requested by not readily available. Food was OK but not exceptionable.
Sunday champagne brunch was alright, not overwhelmingly great. Only drink selections were coffee, mimosa or oj, would have expected a bit more selection for a huge hotel and restaurant. Buffet style was alright, food was hot and many choices so that was good, however the make-to-order omelettes were wrong and way too big. Overall experience was okay like I said, but we won’t be back.
Amazing servers all around us we ended up with the young kid that didn't really know the menu items or give us the specials. Mediocre service at best. Band was playing that was cool.
