Great spot for breakfast with friends. Beautiful view, quirky ambiance, good food, terrific service.
If you like classic style dining with a large portioned meat, generic potato, and steamed vegetables, then this is the place for you. While everything was cooked correctly and tasted good, I doubt I would go back because I enjoy a bit more modern style dining where each individual entree comes with thought-out paired accompaniments. At Baker's House, you choose your meat and every single entree comes with the same potato and vegetable of the day. I have no complaints about the technical abilities of the chef, but I wish they were a bit more adventurous. The atmosphere is really cool if like old historic houses with a Victorian vibe and I think it's great for Halloween (they had cool decorations), but it's possibly a bit too rickety for my tastes otherwise.
tl;dr Would recommend for classic meat and potatoes people, but would suggest Sopra Bistro (nearby) for those with a more adventerous palate.
Delicious crab cakes!! Great server- very attentive
We had the biggest Prime Rib we have ever seen. You could cut it with a fork. There was a great band in the other room but we couldn’t hear it or sit in there and eat. They played to an empty room. The Mansion is gorgeous!
The Baker House is another one of those once-exclusive venues, whose current success, if any, rests on its laurels. It’s a tired old dame with no umph. The service is just ok. The food is just ok. The house itself could really use a good cleaning. Antique doesn’t mean it’s ok to leave the age-old dust and spider webs around for guests. There was a piano player in one room that I’m pretty sure just kept playing the same 8 songs over and over again throughout the night. It got tiresome. I would suggest that some new and motivated ownership could really revive the place.
Nice atmosphere. Great food. One of our favorites.
Great food- unfortunate service. The waitress forgot about us on numerous occasions. Took 20 minutes from the time we were sat to get our waitress, then never came back after dinner was delivered.
Meat was very good. Sides were not.
The food and service were outstanding. A great atmosphere to have a special dinner. Drinks were good. A little pricey but well worth it.
My lobster tail was overcooked to the point of chewy. The food and wine were overpriced. In the bar area, they did not wipe down tables when people got up to leave. Not really safe during COVID-19. I don't feel the need to ever go back.
food was great ,service was terrific! Will go back again!
What a unique dining experience - inside an old mansion where you will either be seated in the parlor, the library, or the main living room. Period hats are available for you to wear during your dining experience. There is also lots of seating and firepits outside to sit at with a cocktail before or after dinner. It was so much fun and the food was delicious!
What a charming place. Small seating areas that feel cozy and homelike. Old world elegance at its best
I love this place. It's like stepping back in time.
An outstanding experience. It was like stepping into history. We enjoyed the food and the ambiance as we explored the beauty of the house. Enjoyed live music on the lawn.
We went for our 10th anniversary dinner and the food was as good as our surroundings! The chicken angelica was scrumptious and the filet with mushrooms was outstanding. Service from Melanie was impeccable and Tim was delightful in his wistful introduction to the Baker House. Between the ambiance and the food, the night was perfect. The topper was the live band playing our favorite 70's and 80's tunes out on the front lawn whilst sitting in the gazebo with a hot fire going on a colder night. A very memorable evening indeed.
I’m sorry to report this review, but I think people should know the food is lower than IHOP. I made a reservation a long time ago and I’m extremely disappointed and was disgusted with the brunch. The harsh browns were soaked in grease making them soggy. We will never go back. Your better off eating at Egg Harbor.
Family in for Labor Day. Was seated at a table that had not been cleaned or sanitized. Ask to have it cleaned only to wait and have to ask someone else to clean it. Ordered Eggs Benedict and it was cold throughout.
Very slow service. Food was good but overpriced. The house and court yard are beautiful!!
Place was not busy and service was very slow. Took one hour get appetizers. Potatoes were old tasting and vegetables were hard. Ambiance made it worth it.
Service and drinks are pretty slow. So set your expectations this won’t be a quick dinner. Food was exceptional though. We had the crab cakes, shrimp skewers and lobster. All were phenomenal.
I love the hostess. He was great. He brought a sense of warmth and A lot of knowledge on the building. I loved it
Excellent place for a special event or a change of pace. Front porch was very warm, fan did not work. Price was a bit high.
The staff was very polite. The food and my chocolate martini was delicious! Our waitress Kari was amazing!
Great meal, historic location, beautiful view of the lake. Can’t wait to go again. I would highly recommend the crab and artichoke fondue, filet and lobster, and raspberry cheesecake. Amazing experience!
A great date night for my husband and I. We ate on the inside porch, with the beautiful view of Lake Geneva. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious! Music was live outside on the lawn. This is a fun place to dine.
The indoor decor looked like an spinsters house. I understand they were going for charming but the whole thing just looked dusty and tired. A room for staff was in front of the lobby and full of trash and disheveled. The outdoor dining was set up around fire pits that had not been cleaned and were not dining tables. The local cheese board was outstanding but several entrees were sold out and the selection was underwhelming. Same vegetables and potatoes served with different proteins. Great location that is being wasted.
Nice place good view, a little different. Xxxxxxxx
It was our 2nd wedding anniversary and we were staying at Harbour Shores. We made a reservation at Baker House for dinner. We got right in (it was a slow night at the restaurant). We wanted to set outside at the fire tables but outside was closed. Our waitress, Melissa, got someone to light the fire table and said she would wait on us outside. She made our night very special. Also the food was great and we'll priced. Thank you so much Melissa!!! God Bless Your Day!!! Debbie and Bryan Shaw.
The atmosphere and food was very good. Great location. We sat outside and there was a beautiful view of the lake. Nice seating areas. We went for the Sunday Brunch but because of Covid it was not buffet style, you had to circle what you wanted on a piece of paper. We did have to wait quite awhile for our food and second mimmosa, but other than that it was decent.
Just skip it. I don’t even know how this place can be called a restaurant. Sure... the house is interesting and old. But it is poorly kept, and the food is Horrible. As I said, just skip it!
We were seated right next to the only other people in the room. Not COVID-19 aware! Room faced the afternoon sun and was very hot. Service was fine Cod dinners were very good but shrimp, crab cake appetizers were so-so
The Baker House has a unique dining experience, of which the food plays the major starring role! If you’re looking for the opportunity to be transported back in time to a simple elegant place, the Baker House is for you....
Beautiful and unique atmosphere. Amazing food. Can't wait to go back!
So glad you asked! Not good, menu said roasted garlic potatoes and instead EVERYONE got cheesey scalloped potatoes; not my favorite. No bread, rolls or salad and we paid $44 for a new york strip steak and $27 for chicken . One thin piece of chicken with a good veggie topping covered with way too much gouda cheese. I do not plan to go back nor recommend them. They lost our check, we had to hunt our waitress down and were glad to leave.
Seated on the enclosed patio. Nothing special - no tablecloth or bread, both of which we expect from upscale dining. Limited menu - steaks, chicken, and lobster tail (at$49). The food was good, but nothing to make it special other than seeing the first floor of the historic house.
Great place to visit! Enjoyed taking photos, the ambient was wonderful! Would definitely come back!
We have eaten at many places and have never had a filet that tasted so bad.
It was chewy and not good for both my husband and myself.
we had a fabulous time. Food and service was top notch!
We left. Absolutely no help. No social distancing. No mask on waitress. No service.
