We were a little disappointed this time. We had an 8 pm reservation and when we went to order addition small plates at 9 our server said the kitchen was closed. A little notice would have been nice.
This place has gone way down hill. Very disappointed.
The service was slow and the waitress seemed impersonal and just going through the motions. Very little interaction other than the bare minimal. It was not a busy night.
She also sent us home with the wrong doggy bags...handed each of ours warpoes up and in a bag. Got home it was not my food!!!!
Food was very bland. Really bland.
Salad was good and desert was good main courses were not impressive.
It was a cold night and I noticed NONE OF THE FIREPLACES WERE LIT!
I kindly asked if ours could be lit and the response was. I will light it for you but if it gets too hot don't ask me to turn it off!!!!!!!
Drinks were great so the bartender is good
Been here a few years ago quite often and it was great.
Now the wait staff looks like old zombies with zero personality.
Maybe the new owners will get this place back into shape.
I waited tables for many years in my distant past.... So I am fair in my assessment. Don't bother going to the Baker House unless you just want drinks.
Until they sell in December.....
Had a server who had to be reminded to take dirty dishes from our small table and had to be asked to bring champagne for mimosas. That and the lack luster food, just didn’t hit the quality mark for the price we were paying. Next time we will just be doing Grand Geneva.
Wonderful ambiance! Great cocktails! Good food!
We realized upon reading their ad when we got home that we were never offered Champagne, it was supposed to be endless Champagne. I saw a lady carrying the bottle but we are in a separate room and she never came to our table.
The Sunday brunch was outstanding. The food, while not exotic or particularly "creative", was well prepared, always hot, and the stations were kept clean and appealing. The ambiance is outstanding, what a wonderful architectural gem of a place!
The property was beautiful both indoors and outdoors. However the food selections were limited and bland. Service was almost non-existent ,especially based on the price. Our waitress was more interested in talking to her friends and making sure they were serviced rather than paying any attention to us. She filled both their champagne and coffee repeatedly while ignoring us. Our table was across from theirs. She walked past us 4 or 5 times and never stopped to offer more coffee. We had to stop her to get any attention.
Wonderful visit!! Food and drinks very good. Can’t wait to visit again.
I was very disappointed in our experience. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday on Saturday. We went for an early dinner and there was only about 2-3 other tables in the place. We were seated in the liabrary which really is a beautiful room. After we were seated we waited about 15 minutes before a server ever came over. Once she did come she acted like she was being rushed even though we were her only table. She told us the wrong choice of sides and brought out the wrong soups. She acted like we were putting her out. We never complained or asked for anything in addition to our order. We both ordered the prime rib special which was huge but rather fatty. I didn’t mind that as much because I understand that’s a fattier steak but it just added to the list. Though we both left stuffed and the place was gorgeous but it was just a disappointing overall experience. To help I think it would be nice to ask if we had ever been there before and if not maybe give some history. It’s not like it was busy when we went. Also make sure you know the side/soup options available before you start taking tables. Lastly, it’s nice when the server seems happy even if they are faking it.
Service and ambiance was wonderful. Christine, our waitress, arranged for the piano player to play
"Happy Birthday" while the lounge singer and staff sang. Christine was attentive and fun throughout our dining experience. We finished the night at the bar. Adam, our bartender, was a great host and shared details about the history of both the Baker House and Maxwell Mansion. It was a GREAT night. Looking forward to our next visit and will request the service of both Christine and Adam.
Simply the best in Lake Geneva. Beautiful property, friendly staff, and delicious food.
We were celebrating our daughter’s 18th birthday. The whole experience from the surroundings to the food was just perfect!
Chris great server
If you've never been there, it's a must. 1920s motif and all the champagne you can drink.
We love the ambiance and character at the Baker House. The food is always delicious. The service was a little slow this time, but generally we have good luck here. Always a fun time to wear fun hats at dinner and spend time with friends.
I enjoyed my experience there so much that I've brought friends & family there as well. I've had the Sunday brunch almost a dozen times now, and each time is thoroughly enjoyable!
Good food, great ambiance. Baker House is a unique dining experience! It’s fun for date night or girls night out.
Baker House is unique. Food is excellent (we had the Friday fish fry) and served with antique china service. The 19th century house and antiques provide a unique ambiance.. There are racks of antique hats that can be worn by patrons. Piano bar performer is great. We'll be back.
Went during the week when things were kind of quiet! great food! great service! felt like we had the place to ourselves!! enjoyed the music too!
Nice old hotel. Guests can pick various hats and feel like they are dining back in time. Food and service was really good. We'll be back
Baker house is very unique! They make it a true experience and encourage participation in the theme. The food is great. I recommend the apothecary bar and the speakeasy for drinks after dinner as well.
Great fun, food, and atmosphere! Great girls getaway!
the house was beautiful and unique, loved the mixed matched plates and silverware, food needs a little help. Prime rib was good along with the trout chocolate fondue great idea but a huge miss. Broken pretzels and old strawberries served on the plate. Wine list very good. This could be a great place with some tweaking.
Fondue was terrible. They took it off the bill. No bus help for the waitress. Salmon was advertised as Faroe salmon but it wasn’t. We have had it before and know the difference. Website not up to date. No “Speakeasy” as advertised. Sat on enclosed porch which was very cold and heat wasn’t working. We won’t be back!
The Sunday champagne brunch was wonderful! Fantastic atmosphere and delicious food. We can't wait to go back again soon!
Always great food and great time at the Baker house! The brunch is great!
Excellent food and atmosphere! We really enjoyed our evening!
We wanted to go on a fancy dinner date night for my boyfriends birthday. The atmosphere was wonderful and elegant. I can’t say enough about our waitress too! She always made sure we were well taken care of all night. The food was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed their old fashions with our dinner! I can’t wait to go back again someday and would recommend this to any couple or small group to enjoy a nice night out!
Beautiful establishment with the most amazing atmosphere. The bartender was funny, friendly, and good at his job; he even brought us our second round when our waitress seemed to forget about us. All of the drinks were great, the foot was outstanding, and again, the environment is unlike any other.
The food was great. I had the Prime Rib and my wife had the Salmon. Both were delicious. They had a piano plaer who also song the songs. She was great. Stayed around after dinner and had a couple of drinks and listed to her music. A great and fun evening.
Historical, unique dining experience. Great variety of food (Sunday Brunch) My favorite was the french toast with bananas foster.
Pleasant and very helpful staff/service. Looking forward to to dining here again.
Birthday for my boyfriend - i mentioned it and nothing was done about it - as we were leaving we seen a server who we loved from before and she said “didn’t they sing for you?”
A loud party was seated by us and ruined our meal - we were a party of 2 and given a table for 5 - way too impersonal ! I love Baker House but today had cold coffee and the food was so so
Wonderful ambiance and really fun to explore the rooms and try on the hats. We really like the singing bartender and how they use furniture pieces for the dining spaces. Chocolate mousse was outstanding. The rest of our meal was good but nothing incredibly memorable. Great place for a unique experience.
We have had good experiences at Baker House in the past but the service and quality seem to have gone downhill quickly in the past few years. This visit was a terrible experience. The bartender was surly while we waited for our table and our server was downright hostile. When the manager arrived she was not much better. Apologized half-heartedly and seemed very insincere. However I have to give the hostess compliments for apologizing and trying hard to make things better. Then the food arrived including almost raw chicken which we had to send back.
Overall a bad experience on a very special birthday occasion. We will not be back anytime soon and tell others to stay away!
Great atmosphere and scenic view. We had an enjoyable evening. Highly recommend 👍
We drove from Chicago to Lake Geneva for our Anniversary.
Baker house was recommended on line, and the fondues looked appealing.
The ambience was lovely, beautiful and the meal got of to a reasonable start.
Our cocktails were good and service was fine.
The menu was limited, very few entrees.
We ordered an appetizer and cheese fondue for our main meal.
We were still hungry and anxious for the chocolate fondue dessert.
Our server took our order and then disappeared
Seems she had a large party in another room and forgot we were there.
We waited for twenty minutes went to check on where abouts.
The hostess said said she would be right there. After another 15 minutes we found her and she
Said she was too busy to put our order in. We found the manager, no apology.
Our Anniversary dinner was a big disappointment. The Restaurant needs to get its act together.
A better menu would help, but their customer attitude improvement is essential.
The ambience is great, but after that it is straight down hill
Fun night out with our family. Wonderful cheese board!!
"Hidden in Plain Sight" should be the title. We've lived in the area almost 20 years and had never even really considered dining here. What an eye opener. The Baker House is a fun, relaxed, casual-but-quirky chic kind of place to dine. Amazing atmosphere, affordable menu and fun music. Don't come here expecting to be in and out in under an hour. Expect a slow paced, relaxed, delicious dining experience.
sat on the porch, couldnt have asked for a better first time. the food was very good. not sure if there was a dress code, but everyone eating was well dressed. i would go back again to try a dinner. we went for sunday bruch
Food was not up to par. We come every year for my birthday. This was the first time
We had some issues. Some food was cold. My eggs Benedict was not cooked through and was
Pretty much inedible. My husbands as well. Otherwise love this place and will be back.
