Baia Ratings and Reviews
We were quite excited to visit Baia. After all a nice restaurant on the bay, terrace seating etc.
We were in fact promptly seated but unfortunately not out on the terraced deck.
The clam chowder was so-so. The caeser salad was drenched in dressing. Then we were informed that the kitchen was extremely backed up even though the restaurant was barely 1/3 full.
So my wife and decided to take in the beautiful outdoor views and walk along the exterior deck.
We were barely outside for 5 minutes when we returned to our table only to find that it had been totally cleared of our drinks, my eyeglasses and totally reset for another party.
After asking the wait staff what happened to our table, the manager arrived and apologized.
Finally after another 20 minutes our entrees arrived. Both the sea bass and the grouper, although nicely presented, were extremely oversalted.
Again management apologized and offered to remove the charges.
The ambiance is wonderful but all else does not pass the litmus test. Sorry we will not be returning.
We had 7:00 pm reservations. We finally got seated at 7:40. The excuse was they did not have enough menus. We offered for the hostess to seat us without menus and we would have a cocktail. At 8:00 the waiter asked us if we would like something to drink. We ordered cocktails and left the restaurant (without being served our drink) at 8:20. We did call the manager over and she told us there was nothing she could do as they were not supposed to be open.
Consequently we will never go back
Very pleasant server named Lamar. Helpful and great service. Calamari appetizer was great. One of our entrees was wrong, the person delivering food to the table seemed shocked that we wanted what we ordered. It took about 10minutes...but it was delicious. Great cocktail menu. Love the seafood selection and then pick your sauces. Tuna was too blackened with heavy heavy seasoning and was overcooked. Dont advertise sushi grade on the menu if you are cooking it well done. Will go back.
We have been wanting to go to this restaurant and it was definitely worth it. Fun, beautiful view of the water, service was excellent for dinner not so much at their tiki bar due to one bartender and 30 people at bar. We ordered food at Tiki and it never came also. It was happy hour and I guess they were not expecting the crowd since it was beautiful and middle of September it was a Friday night. Will go back the restaurant closes for the winter though.
Table of 6, 4 seniors (2 on walkers). Placed in farthest corner of restaurant. Server took drink and food orders and never saw her again. Someone else brought the food (it was good). Drinks never refilled. Plates sat empty for 30 minutes before we went for manager to get bill. Manager didn't say a word. Not busy. Just poor service. We use Open Table ALOT. First time we wouldn't return to a restaurant.
Our waiter, Everett was wonderful. He was friendly and made the experience fun. Food was better than we remembered from last year and even though it was raining the outside seating was great. The only suggestion for the restaurant is to make sure that diners have utensils before bringing out food. We didn't and also noticed table next to us asked for them too when their food came.
To begin, table service was unacceptable. When it takes 45 minutes to be asked for a second drink, which was including water, involving a 6 year old at the table, there's a serious problem. TWICE we needed to ask for the specials list upon being sat, before even trying to order anything at all. We had to ask repeatedly for togo containers, then we're told twice that they didn't have bags when multiple table were provided them and they were obviously being used. Staff had almost no knowledge of the menu and the responses that WERE received were simply ridiculous and nonsensical, not even applicable to the question (i.e. What's the difference between the veal parm on the menu vs. the special? And the answer was: "that's $40 and that one is $28"). The upside was that the kitchen turned out very good food, but this experience was beyond subpar. When there are three hostesses and zero table coverage, that's insulting. Not a soul in the building was even apologetic, but simply making excuses upon every request, question, or inquiry. I'm a restaurant professional, and I don't review much.. But this was upsetting and an enormous waste of a hundred dollars overall
service was horrible. server forgot half the order and what he did get was wrong. food took forever to come out and was cold. asked to sit outside when there were open tables and they wouldn't sit us outside and we watched the empty 2 table throughout our whole meal. overall a very bad experience. we have eaten there 3 times over the course of 3 years and have all been bad experinces. why did we go back? we were expecting different results and hoped they would get better but this will be our last time there.
We waited for 15 minutes after we ordered drinks for the manager to notice we hadn't received them - he brought them. We waited 30 minutes for the original waitress to return to take our order before we requested another waitress/waiter. The manager waited on us and we received good food in a timely manner. The ambiance is excellent outside with the band playing below!!
I booked my reservation over two weeks in advance asking to be seated outside and noting that we were celebrating a birthday. Upon arrival I was told that if we wanted outside seating it would be 45-60 minutes. It was actually a longer wait. After finally being seated it was more than 30 minutes and 4 requests to even get bread. Much later, when we finally did get our dinner it was really not eatable. The fish had clearly been frozen and then was over cooked and dried out. The "pistachio encrusting" was actually a glob of goo on top of the dried out fish. This restaurant is mismanaged and needs a new chef. Or a different menu. I would only recommend this restaurant to those who want a nice setting to enjoy a cocktail, pass on the food!
We've been going to Baia every summer since it opened. Unfortunately, most times have there have been problems. But we keep trying. Saturday 8/26 was our most recent try. Drinks were okay although my Manhattan had whiskey not bourbon as I ordered. We ordered an appetizer that never came. Bread came when dinner arrived. Dinner was ok, however, the tuna I had was bland and tough. Finally we got dessert. While good, one did not have whipped cream as indicated on the menu. Certainly not a big deal but at the end of a less that satisfying dinner, it was irritating. The couple at the table next to us got new service until one of them got up and walked to the desk. We could never recommend Baia
Evening began on a sour note when I was informed that they would not honor my reservation request for an outside table. I was told that if I had called them directly, I would have been told that. When I indicated that Open Table did not provide such information, they said that they had no responsibility for Open Table. The evening went down hill from there, as our server was totally incompetent. It took over an hour and a half to get our food and only because my son contacted the Manager. This was particularly embarrassing because I selected the restaurant for our son who treated for my birthday. I'll never return to this establishment!
We go often to this restaurant because we love it. This past time was not good. Our server must have been overwhelmed or something because she totally messed up. She came to the table and we gave her our entire order. Our friend and myself already had a glass of wine which we brought to the table. My husband ordered a glass of wine which she brought back promptly, that is where the problems started. We waited a very long time and never saw her, we had to ask someone to find our server. She came outside and ask if there was anything we needed, I ordered another glass of wine. Our dinner still had not arrived. Finally about 4o minute had gone by our salad and our dinner came at the same time. One problem, my husband's dinner was not there. The person delivering the dinners checked the slip and his order was not there. The server came out and said a simple Sorry about that. Totally didn't care acted like it never happened. We really love this place and eat there often. But this was not acceptable.
The best views hands down of any restaurant in the area. We go every year during our week in OC. Our meals were outstanding, both specials. It is pricey so we did like to have the option to have the outdoor dining menu on the deck and we were bummed to find out they got rid of it, sandwiches, burgers, etc. So, the kids are out from coming.
BEWARE...reservations are only valid for indoor seating. When we arrived at the time of our reservation we were told it would be a 30 minute wait for an outdoor table. When I expressed my disappointment and suggested that their policy should be more clear on open table, the young woman at the hostess stand snapped "that's not my responsibility...although I wish it was". No apology or understanding. That was not a very pleasant start. We got a drink at the outdoor bar but the Diet Coke tasted off. Salads were ordered but we got a table and they were delivered there. Thay were ok but very overdressed. We all got one of the specials and they were good.
Sorry I'm late. Baia's management is totally non responsive. Mixed drinks are bad. Food was way to salty. Service was sub par. I emailed and called for the manager Ed and he never called back. Avoid this place they could care less... Go to the crab trap instead or just drink a bottled beer and enjoy the view. TheBarReview gives Baia a D-
We sat down promptly for our 8:30 reservation at a great table on the deck overlooking the Ocean City bridge. Shortly after that, it went all downhill. The server started as expected by taking our food and drink order, and a few minutes later returned with a basket of undercooked bread. After that, she didn't return until I asked for the manager. An hour and fifteen minutes later after placing our order, we received our food. What a disappointment! The plate was hot, but the food was cold. Probably sitting under a warming lamp for an hour. A potentially good combination of ingredients with a terrible execution. Cold seafood that is supposed to be warm; YUCK!
What a complete waste of time! I would highly doubt that they make it through the offseason.
Food was excellent as usual and waiter was pleasant as well as knowledgeable about the menu. It was very noisy however this is the height of their season. It's a whole different experience in the spring fall and even early June. We eat here at least three times a year
Parking was nearly impossible. RESERVATIONS MEAN NOTHING! I made a reservation for four on the upper deck, arrived on time, 15 minutes early, and was told it would be an hour wait. It took longer then an hour. We paid the cover to enter the rear lower deck bar for drinks while we waited. Told that if we were eating bring our receipt back to the gate to receive our cover back. The energy was great, the band was great.
Upon arriving at our table, the service by the wait staff was very good, the food was worth the wait. Left with our receipt to collect our cover back as instructed....a twist of what was actually needed at the gate was the itemized list. A long delay to get that list. Then they wanted to keep the itemized list. But we had a business dinner and so did the person who was with our party.
This was at the end of the summer. You would have thought it was the first time they did that.
Unique excellent Italian gourmet food served on a covered patio deck with a killer water view. Their filet mignon with a red wine sauce is one of the best things I've ever had - and the hot home made rolls with a restaurant prepared dipping olive oil is a delicious detail. Service was excellent and attentive. Tables had linen tablecloths and napkins, different from what you would expect for outdoor dining. My only criticism would be that the live music's volume level was way to loud - with elevated speakers pointing directly at the diners. Great music, but conversation required shouting.
The main dish (tuna for me) was great but the sides and apps were really lackluster. Everything seemed frozen, quickly heated, thrown on a plate with a ton of butter dumped on it. The drinks were good, and the view was beautiful. Disappointed with the food as we used to love this place. I'd still come back, but only for the outdoor bar/view, not for a meal.
