A lot of distractions as the restaurant converted into a night club, but overall the food and service was pretty good.
Amazing atmosphere, food was good but nothing special
We had a laughable experience but we still enjoyed it. So on Friday we sat at the bar and had a pulled pork sandwich with some drinks and it was amazing! So I went back Sunday night with 7 of us salivating for the pulled pork I couldn't stop talking about.
Waitress came over and said, sorry we are out of pulled pork! We were all so sad. But whatever...so we ordered brussels sprouts appetizer...(all out - she didn't tell us that - they just never came out), mac and cheese...(they had it but no bacon for the bread crumbs). Then we ordered another appetizer that they were all out of! Then a few of us ordered burgers and fries....(sorry, no more fries!!) You've got to be kidding!
Dinner came and everything was good...except one of us (chicken fingers) wasn't served. The food came in a few trips so we assumed they were on the way....Nope. Then we had to flag down a server and let her know that the fingers weren't served. They finally came after everyone was done eating. By the way, some of the best chicken fingers ever!
The good news is that the waitress was very pleasant and felt horrible about everything. It turns out that they opened at 8AM that day for the World Cup final and the place was unexpectedly ravaged. The restaurant did the right thing and significantly discounted our bill. We all had a good laugh about it.
I will give this place another try.
Great food and service. Got our party of 8 in fast and efficiently. Had my favorite Alaska beer on tap.
The food was really salty, seemed to be understaffed so waitress looked annoyed after the order.
Just kind of okay. Food was alright - the Mac and cheese was a big disappointment but the bison burger is good. Service was okay, pretty standard. I didn’t feel like there was anything special about this place.
Service was awful. It took 30 minutes for the server to take our food order and another 35-40 for the food to arrive. When the food finally arrived the order was wrong and several items had to be remade. Drinks were slow and we sat for extended periods of time with empty glasses before we saw our server again. Ambience and music was awesome but the lack of service and slow speed overshadowed an otherwise good experience.
Great location, hip ambience. Food was very passable, if not groundbreaking. Service was good. Prices are good for pacific beach.
Great food and fun atmosphere! It is kid-friendly, too!
It was a disaster!
We arrived at 12:30 to have a nice quiet Father's day lunch. What we did not realize is that they were hosting it a watching party for the World Cup Soccer
It was extremely loud and crowded
We walked out after my husband was shoved by one of the drunk patrons
We went there for a Birthday day dinner with 10 people and they put us in a large booth, though it was very tight seating and made it uncomfortable to have arm room to eat. Food was ok, typical food for bar type restaurant. Very noisy so hard to hear people that were not sitting right next to you. Service was ok, not great. This place is better for cocktails and listening/dancing to music. Very popular place for the 30 and under crowd.
Live music was so loud that we asked for another table outside. Horrible inside. But the rest was good like always.
Great atmosphere and family friendly during the day and early evening! Food was delicious and great serving size! Would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area!
The staff and service was amazing. We will be back! Thanks to Backyard for helping us make a surprise birthday brunch possible. We had a great time. We appreciate your flexibility and we just loved our time! Beautiful place. The food was great, highly suggest the chicken and waffles. So yummy.
Drinks were great service amazing TVs a huge plus. Fun friday night stor for family of all ages
Everything was just average. There were dogs running around the patio and coming up to the table trying to get food. Very unsanitary as they were not on leashes and licking plates that were waiting to be washed.
Great restaurant and atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone visiting Pacific Beach.
If going for lunch, check the menu. The full menu starts at 3:00 PM
We were seated by the hostess and it took 22 minutes to have someone come to our table after I got up to ask the host if anyone was coming. Our portion was very small and I believe it was because they were trying to get us our food fast to make up for waiting so long. It was a special occasion, a first date that just went didn’t start off rite by waiting for our first round of drinks. I love this place I was just disappointed this time.
Great place. Great food!
Thought the food was good and the service was friendly. Had a great cocktail and seafood. Family friendly until later then becomes more of a bar scene. Definitely would recommend.
Noise was too loud
We arrived and were told even though we made a reservation, they had no tables available. It was super loud and the hostess was rude, so we did not stick around.
The restaurant reaches atomic bomb levels of noise. Can't even hear someone across the table or the waitress can't hear your order.
Other than that, the food was good.
Very large restaurant with two bar areas. Great food and drinks, moderately priced. Reserved outdoor table and they set inside which was disappointing. Had large group, our waitress could have used help, slow to get our orders and foos. Overall would go again, maybe with smaller group
Delicious breakfast, chicken n waffles, gravy and biscuits, mimosa flight, Bloody Mary, fun, lively, great outdoor seating. We had tried 2 other nearby restaurants with long lines and happened into Backyard. So glad we did. They should have long lines based on our experience. We went back again a week later it was so good!
Great sports bar with delicious food!
I love Backyard. Great for brunch and the service is amazing! Go before 11 because it starts to get noisy.
Good food and ditto on the drink selection..
Nice variety of comfort food and beers. Ribs, mac and cheese, fish and chips, and fish tacos all hit the spot.
We started with their excellent Brussels sprouts and chips with blue cheese dip. We all ordered Bison burgers with sweet potato fries. Outstanding! For dessert we shared chocolate dipped strawberries which was a Valentine’s Day special, and the apple crumble. We will definitely be going back soon!
My wife was almost bitten by a dog that was at the bar. Later we found out that my mother in law was told to go to the other side of the bar to get to the restroom. My wife, who was with our 2 year old daughter, didn’t get that advise and was nearly bit by the the dog. Cleary they knew that the dog was mean but let it in anyways!
Came on a day with beautiful weather, which was nice because the partial open roof setting let in just the right amount of sunlight. Their bar (indoors) was open for seating as well. Brunch food was good - I highly recommend the chicken and waffles!
Backyard Kitchen and Tap has a friendly casual vibe, large bar down in Pacific Beach. Tried a few dishes during restaurant week. The fried calamari was fun with a few surprises in the basket— fried slices of lemons and pepperonchinis. Shrimp was very good with pesto guacamole dip. We also had the ceviche, cheeseburger and sweet potato fries. They were all well prepared and tasty. The ahi burger is served rare, seared top and bottom. We had a good time and will come back.
Tried out for restaurant week, not too impressive. The service was so slow, even to get our drinks. We ordered beers, which were served in warm plastic glasses. The food was good, but nothing special. When we were leaving, the girls at the front desk were too busy talking to each other to say goodbye as we walked out the front door.
I picked this restaurant to try during San Diego Restaurant Week. Located in Pacific Beach, so parking is always terrible.
Overall experience was fine. Staff was friendly and attentive. I brought my big dog. They brought her a bowl of water right away. There is also a doggie menu for your pet.
Unfortunately, our food service was very slow. It took a long time to get our appetizers, which was delicious. Our main dishes were under cooked, I could not even eat mine. We ran out of time, so we did not send our food back. We boxed our food to go. Not sure if my son will eat it.
Nice casual fun place with good foods. We will go back there again.
Attentive staff, decent portions, really good St. Louis ribs! Pretty open on a Thursday evening. We'll go back when it's warmer.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent!
