Dinner at the Back Burner tonight was AMAZING! Our waitress, Samantha, was sweet and very friendly as always!! For appetizers, Mom and Dad had the Classic Lejon, which was bacon-wrapped shrimp and horseradish, served with a tangy dill sauce for dipping, they really enjoyed it! We also had the Jumbo Onion Rings, our favorite! We always love them!!! Dad ordered a small Wedge Salad, which had iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, bacon, and is served with a gorgonzola cheese dressing. I ordered a small Caesar Salad, which had romaine lettuce, garlic focaccia croutons, Parmesan cheese, and was served with an anchovy dressing. We had rolls and butter too, which were delicious! For the main course, Dad had his favorite the All Natural Turkey Burger, his favorite. It had grilled house ground and spiced all natural turkey, cranberry relish, and was served on a brioche bun with potato chips on the side. Mom ordered the Soup Du Jour special, which was a potato and leek soup with bacon! She LOVED IT! I ordered my favorite, the Stuffed Squash, which is to die for!! It is one of the best vegan dishes I ever had! It is a roasted butternut squash, split in half, with butternut squash pieces, kale, bell peppers, cranberries, amber rice and grains, haricot, a spiced pistachio gravel, and a Thai chili apple butter. It was so good, that I took the leftovers home! For dessert, I had the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae, which was a warm chocolate brownie, served with Woodside Vanilla Ice Cream, and chantilly whipped cream on top. It's my all time favorite dessert to get here! We also got to meet the executive chef, Chris! He came by to say hello and to see how our food was. He does an incredible job with the food, and is very creative! The place was packed tonight! Thanks again for another great meal, Back Burner! Until next time!
Our meal could have been great, but it missed the mark on several categories. To begin with , the restaurant was out of the only two things that my daughter ordered. What a disappointment to start off. When the food finally came out, it seemed as though it had been sitting under heat lamps for a while. Most of our meals (a party of 6) were overcooked and completely dried out. One member of our party did complain, as the filet that he ordered was grossly overcooked...and although the restaurant took 30% off of his meal and comped a dessert, the damage was already done. Everyone agreed that the food missed the mark and that we would most likely not return.
It had been a while since we’d last eaten at the Back Burner. My recollection was that it was good then but not this time. Service was very slow. The soup of the day, Chicken Vegetable, didn’t have any chicken in it. Turkey burger came out so brown that I questioned if it was really Turkey. The best part of the meal was the homemade chips that came with it.
Staff did an excellent job and the pumpkin soup was outstanding.
ThomasW, Thank you for your kind words about the staff, I will be sure they know about your review. I hope we get to see you soon! regards, Chris
Not up to usual standards I don’t know but maybe a new chef it certainly was disappointing. This was my favorite lunch place
Mary, I apologize that we did not measure up. I can only guess what may have been wrong on your visit and that would not help to improve your favorite place. I would greatly appreciate knowing where we went wrong and what you feel we could do to get back to where you feel it should be. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Thank you again for the feedback and review. Regards, Chris
First time here and we were not disappointed. Surprising find such a gem in a strip mall. Inside you feel you’re in a separate building. The waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. If we’re ever in the area we will sure to go back.
I am gluten free and they were very accommodating. I also cannot eat starches so they subbed out a small salad.
KarenW, Thank you for the visit and the review. We can and will try to accommodate anything if we have the ability to do so. I have a gluten free family member and it is important that everyone has choices when they go out, not just a special item or two. Thank you again for the visit and the review! Regards, Chris
Dinner tonight at Back Burner was AMAZING as always! Tina, our waitress, was friendly and very entertaining as always! For drinks, Mom and I had water, and Dad had the Hibiscus Iced Tea, which he enjoyed like the last time. For appetizers, I ordered a small Caesar Salad with romaine lettuce, garlic focaccia croutons, Parmesan cheese, and an anchovy Caesar dressing. We also ordered a basket of Jumbo Onion Rings to share; it's always one of our favorites. We had rolls and butter too. For the main course, Mom ordered the Fresh Catch special tonight, which was Caribbean Cod, served with Yukon gold potatoes and asparagus, lemon wedges, and a light sauce. She LOVED it! Dad ordered his favorite, the All Natural Turkey Burger, which is made with grilled house ground and spiced all natural turkey, and served with cranberry relish. Dad had his burger on a brioche bun, served with a side of potato chips. I ordered what Mom had the last time, the Stuffed Squash, which is a big squash, split in half, and was stuffed with butternut squash pieces, kale, bell peppers, cranberries, amber rice and grains, hericot, and a spiced pistachio gravel, and is served with a Thai chill apple butter. It is delicious and is now one of my new favorites on the Fall Menu! For dessert, Mom had coffee with sugar and milk, and I ordered the Vanilla Bourbon Crème Brûlée, served with jam and an almond biscotti. Diana, another waitress, and Brian, the general manager came by to our table to say hello and to see how our food was. Thanks for another delicious meal, Back Burner! Until next time!
DaraR, Thank you so much for all the kind words and the informative review. I am glad we could make your visit a pleasant experience. I hope we can continue to do so and will see you soon. Regards, Chris
After being seated at the table, 35 mins later we had to tell the hostess that no one had been to our table to assist us
I ordered the expensive ($32) Lobster and Scallops with risotto. The risotto was like a paste and the lobster was claws.
I had lunch at the back burner to go on Friday and they forgot my order, had to reorder something faster.
They were kind enough to give me my burger to go!
I won't return to the restaurant again, maybe the to go tho.
Hello, I can only apologize for our mishandling of your seating and the quality of your entree. I will take your review and use it to help both myself and our staff to see where we fell short and where we can do better. In the meantime, if you care to, I would like to make up for your experience in some way. If you care to contact me my name is Chris Peters and I am here or at the To Go Shop almost every day. Thank you again for your patronage and I hope to hear from you. Regards, Chris
The service is consistently slow everytime we go.
The Burgers on Burger Night are terrible. Won't be back
Pumpkin mushroom soup is amazing & the crab cakes are delicious.
Took longer than usual for our meal to be served. Server was friendly and staff seemed to be stretched.
Three of the four of us were not pleased with the food. Pumpkin mushroom soup was too thick, not creamy; it seemed like we were eating baby food. The stuffed squash was bland, and the shrimp and beef in one of the salads were overcooked to the point the person ended up not eating it.
Dinner at Back Burner tonight was AMAZING!!! They changed their menu for the fall. Our waitress, Tina, was friendly and very sweet as always! For drinks I had water, Mom had pain iced tea, and Dad had sweet hibiscus berry iced tea, which he really enjoyed! For appetizers, I got a small Caesar Salad with romaine lettuce, garlic focaccia croutons, Parmesan cheese, and an anchovy Caesar dressing. It was yummy! Dad ordered a small Wedge Salad with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, and a gorgonzola blue cheese dressing. Mom ordered the Roasted Beet Hummus, which was served with flatbread, heirloom carrots, and cucumbers. We also had rolls and regular flatbread too. For the main course, Dad ordered the All-Natural Turkey Burger, which had grilled house ground & spiced all natural turkey, cranberry relish, and was served on a brioche bun. He had a side of the Jumbo Onion Rings to go along with it, which was really yummy! Mom ordered the Stuffed Squash, which was stuffed with a blend of of butternut squash, chard, snap peas, bell peppers, cranberries, amber grains, and rice, and was served with a spiced honey pistachio gravel, and a Thai chili apple butter. She LOVED IT! I ordered Stuffed Chicken with mushrooms, served with an haricot vert, and Brussels sprouts! It was really delicious! For dessert, Dad had a scoop of Woodside chocolate and vanilla ice cream, which he always likes, and Mom and I shared the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae, which was to die for!!! It was a big chocolate brownie, with Woodside vanilla ice cream and chantilly whipped cream on top. Have plenty of spoons when you eat it! Thanks again for another great dinner Back Burner! We are looking forward to coming back again soon!
Ordered 3 course restaurant week menu items. Excellent steak, nicely presented. Our favorite server, Diana, served us well. Manager paid our table a visits which was nice.
Good service, Sam was attentive and the managers were extremely courteous and helpful. We used to eat there often during the weekends. Unfortunately it doesn't open on Sunday any more. In fact it is a great place to have a nice family dinner.
Restaurant Week food is usually not my cup of tea, but my husband enjoyed his salmon.
Will definitely go back for my favourite "stuffed mushrooms", mushroom soup, crab cakes … etc. Oh, wish that they had the seafood quiche you can buy whole again. They were excellent and worth the money.
Very understaffed. Took 30-45 minutes between courses. Main course of chicken was over cooked. The mashed potatoes were disgusting, tasted like burnt curdled milk.
Restaurant week. A wonderful meal, not cutting the corners for restaurant week prices. Attentive service, wonderful setting off the bar in a lounge area. Easy to park.
Ania was wonderful! The space felt cozy and was quiet. Keep up the good work!
Great meal great service
Back Burner is a nice little restaurant that delivers good food consistently.
Always a good meal here with fresh ingredients and a warm smile. Highly recommend!
The food was delicious. The service seemed a little scattered. We had two severs throughout the evening and they forgot our soups/salads and drinks. But other than that, really good experience.
The list of white wines by the glass is weak. Blot on an otherwise great place.
Very good reliable favorite for my wife and I. Kind service and thoughtfully prepared food.
We couldn't get over the poor service and food.We had heard good things about Back Burner but the night we went, we had to wait 45 minutes for appetizers and another 30-45 minutes for the food. The food was below average. It not only looked unappealing but the flavor was nonexistent in the pasta dish. My husband ordered the NY Strip special and when it came, we couldn't believe how it looked. There was charred asparagus (wilted) next to the steak and the steak was tough and grisly. Our kids ordered the crab cakes which were dry. A half hour into the meal, my daughter's french fries finally came. The price was ridiculous for how long we waited, the service itself, and the very unappetizing food. We are not returning.
Food was really good (crab and lobster salad, stuffed peppers, pumpkin mushroom soup). Service on the slow side, but think they were understaffed. Our server, Diane, seemed to have way too many tables.
We met some friends with whom we had not had time to chat in quite a while. We enjoyed dinner and conversation for almost three hours. We had a wonderful evening and enjoyed the variety of food choices. I particularly liked the lobster and crab salad. It was perfect for a late summer heat wave.
Food was good but a little overpriced for the quality. Service was good but a little slow. We were in the dining room but near the bar and a table of three were behind us and it was somewhat noisy. It was our first visit and probably won’t go back anytime soon.
Nice dinner before traveling to Longwood for fountain and fireworks displays. Good cocktails and phenomenal calamari. The petite filet was done perfectly and the halibut special was tasty and flacks. We will return.
I truly had a wonderful meal. the soup, special fish entree for the evening, the very delicious boozy dessert drink (actually stronger than perhaps it should have been?). i'll be back.
Didnt like it much at all. Crabcakes smelled fishy and tasted fishy and mushy. The chips were pretty good, crispy and pretty well seasoned. The burger had zero seasoning in it. Tried it because we were nearby. Won't make that mistake again.
Dinner at the Back Burner was AWESOME tonight! Our waitress, Tina, was friendly and entertaining as always! She's always fun to have around! Diana, another waitress who we like, came by several times to say hello and to see how our food was. For drinks, Dad and I ordered soda, and Mom had water. For appetizers, we had rolls with butter and salads. I ordered the Caesar Salad with chopped romaine lettuce, garlic focaccia croutons, Parmesan cheese, and an anchovy dressing. It was good. Dad ordered the Wedge Salad which had iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, bacon, and a gorgonzola cheese dressing. Mom ordered the House Greens Salad without the gorgonzola cheese and substituted Parmesan cheese for it. It also had spiced walnuts, tomatoes, cranberries, and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. She liked it! For the main course, Mom and Dad both ordered the Roasted Veggie Burger, which had a tomato chili jam, arugula, cheddar cheese, and a pesto aioli, served on a brioche bun. It was served with chips and a side of French fries. I ordered my all time favorite, the Shrimp and Grits. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and was served with cheddar grits, a creole andouille sausage gravy, and garlic kale. It is always good and not too spicy. For desserts, Dad and I each had Woodside ice Cream. He had a scoop of vanilla and chocolate, and I had plain chocolate ice cream with hot fudge, my favorite! Mom ordered coffee with sugar and milk and also had one of the specials, fried Georgia peaches with Woodside Vanilla Ice Cream! She LOVED it! Thanks for another great meal, Back Burner! See you next time!
I made my 7:30 reservations while driving from a movie, thought it would complete our evening, as we have dined at Backburner before and always had perfect visits. We arrived around 7:26. We were seated in the fireplace room, near the bar area at 7:30. We were given water by the busboy, but that was the last time we were even noticed. 7:45, still NOT ONE PERSON from the restaurant noticed us, asked us how we were doing, etc. We felt invisible! We politely got up at 7:45, walked to hostess desk to inform them our circumstance. Each of them asked the other if they'd informed our waiter that we were there, they were all oblivious to what we had just experienced. 7/20/19
Freshest Halibuts and Veal tenderloin...prepared to perfection...what more can you say...Topped off with a wonderfully aged Napa Cabernet ...NEVER a bad or even ordinary/mediocre meal at Back Burner’s!
Great meal and wonderful service
Will come back again
I have been to Back Burner a few times before and loved it. I don't know what happened last night. We were a party of 8, at 6:30. After an hour and a half, with no food, and no reasons/apologies from waitress, one of our members, quite loudly I might add, asked where our food was.We never saw the waitress again. when we got our food, one member got completely the wrong item, which they did rectify quickly, and one of our friends had 2 crabcakes, one delicious, one inedible. I had the crabcake and it was delicious. We waited on bread that our waitress said, its in the oven, but it never appeared. I hope this was an off night, because I did like this restaurant.
We've never had a bad meal, nor anything other than friendly, professional service. The food id always delicious, and we enjoy the varied specials. Back Burner is one of our favorite places for both dinner and lunch!
As always, a wonderful evening. Samantha is always so amazing and the food outstanding. One of our favorite places to dine.
We had a very disappointing lunch at Back Burner and we were entertaining a business guest who had never dined there before. After we were seated, we waited a very long time for our server to come to our table and take drink orders. We continued to experience slow and spotty service the remainder of the meal. Not sure if there was a staff issue that day or what — but there were other staff members walking around who could have pitched in if that was the case. We only ordered salads but they took an incredibly long time to be served and were not as fresh as they should have been — the greens looked wilted and old, and it seemed as if the food had been sitting a while before it was served.
We were very uncomfortable with the experience our guest had and would hesitate to take a guest there in the future. We enjoy dining at Back Burner but sadly, are finding that the service and food are inconsistent in their quality.
