Tableservice was constantly confused. I was served the wrong entre, ordered rib eye medium rare and was served fillet medium well and told that is what I ordered.
It wasn’t a disaster and no small puppies were harmed making the dinner, but we will not be back…
Our last few experiences at Back Burner had been less than stellar. They always “just ran out” of the sparkling water I ordered — multiple visits. And the service was incredibly slow. This time was a pleasant change — there was sparkling water and we had a good server. The food was well-prepared and Back Burner has started being more “gluten-free” accommodating. Overall, it was a very pleasant and tasty experience.
Two wonderful dinners were served to us last night (short rib and pork). I’ve included pictures so you too can see how wonderful they looked (and of course tasted). Can’t wait to go back again soon!
Haven't been to Back Burner in years. We went on a Monday and they had 1/2 price apps and 1/2 price wine bottles. The food was as good (if not better) than I remembered. The better cheddar is still an awesome appetizer!
Menu was changed though not on their website. Had chicken with ratatouille. Would not recommend. Ratatouille was had a burnt flavor. Disappointed as our meals in the past were very good.
Great place we really enjoyed our time there food was wonderful and it is close to our home.
Second time in a week we went to the back burner. It was nice for a celebratory anniversary dinner and the only place we could think of that would be a nice quiet place with great food. Too many places try to be the “hot spot” which means loud. We had great dinner with wine, appetizers and wonderful meat and seafood dishes. It was relaxed and refreshing. We’ll be back soon.
As always, our evening at the Back Burner was wonderful. We went for Burger night this time and they definitely know how to make a fantastic burger. I had the better cheddar appetizer (my favorite) and my wife had the pumpkin mushroom soup, which she said was outstanding. I ordered their margarita and it was Perfect. Not to sweet and well balanced. Our server, Tristan, was at tentative and handled the high volume well and we never felt like we were waiting for anything. Thank you all, once again, for a great evening out!
My review might seem less than stellar, but only because I don't tend to give five-star ratings too frequently. The food at this restaurant was excellent, and although I had previously eaten here, I am unable to comment much about the atmosphere as it was almost empty when my wife and I went mid-week. Also, I has mentioned that it was a very special occasion and that anything to make it that much more memorable would be appreciated, nothing was forthcoming, but in all honesty, there really wasn't that much that could have been done. If it is any indication of how good this restaurant is, we went for Christmas last year and have already booked our meal for Christmas 2018!
In closing, I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, if only for the exquisite menu that is on offer. It is definitely somewhere you want to have said that you have been to. I guarantee you will return if you do.
Service was average. We waited a long time to be waited on once seated. Food was over cooked. Signature pumpkin soup was excellent everything agter that (venison, filet) was just ok.
We have been to the Back Burner restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. This time was the exception. Before going to the restaurant, I went on their website and looked at the menu and decided what I would like to order. After ordering wine, my wife and I read over the menu. I did not see the two items that I had decided to order - the Maryland crab soup and the sauteed scallops. I asked the waitress and she said they were out of the soup and did not have the scallops entree that was on the website (this was only 6:00 pm on A Friday night). The waitress said she would borrow some of the crab soup from the take out store. She also said they had a special of sauteed scallops. I said alright and ordered both. A short time later, she came back and told me that the take out store was also out of the soup - so I ordered Beef Barley soup. When our dinners arrived, I noticed that the scallops were about the size of marbles, but there seemed to be quite a few of them so I said nothing. After I started eating, I noticed that the scallops were quite salty and seemed to be getting saltier as I ate. The bottom line is that I ate perhaps one quarter of the meal and had to stop. When the waitress took my plate, I told her that the scallops were way to salty and she needed to tell the kitchen staff. She said she would - I never heard anything back.
p.s. My wife's meal which was different, was satisfactory.
We went for Thanksgiving and our party loved everything about the Back Burner
I have been to Back Burner many times when I lived in Delaware. My friend had not and I thought it would be a great experience for her. She was very impressed and I was so glad that I had thought to go there.
We loved our server Dino. The food was nice as were the drinks. The reception was very bad, though. I had similar experience a few years back and I stopped frequenting this place. I felt very unwelcome. I have to give this place a poor review, although I did enjoy the food. I rather not spend my $ where I am not welcome.
Great service luv sitting in the tavern area.
Completely satisfied. Would return and also recommend the Back Burner to all our friends.
Nice selection on the menu. Food was good but We had to wait 40 minutes before our server took our order.
Janet our server was personable and knowledgeable- friendly.
Air conditioning too cold during dinner on a November night.
Pumpkin Mushroom soup was outstanding. Scallop and veal loin enters done perfectly.
As always service was great, but, kitchen was really slow getting food out. Not a typical experience at the Back Burner. Not sure what was going on but a bit disappointed
Enjoy nice comfortable setting and delicious food with many selections!
Excellent food, wonderful and attentive wait staff....not over bearing. Always fresh meals and great menu. The back burner has been my favorite restaurant since the late 80’s. I compare all other restaurants to this great gem 9n Hockessin
I had another lovely dinner at The Back Burner. Started with a small wedge salad (so great that they offer a “small” option), and ordered the halibut for my entree. Unfortunately, it was a little overcooked so it was somewhat chewy instead of light and flaky. However, the overall meal was very delicious. This restaurant is quiet, so one can enjoy conversation without having to shout to be heard. I would definitely recommend it.
Diane did a great job as always.
Great food, but some items sat to long before being served and were not hot. Love their pumpkin mushroom soup, didn't care for the bread pudding. Way to much cinnamon and to sweet.
Diane is an amazing server. She made great recommendations and was so personable. A nice evening
Everything was great - food, service, price for value received - except the noise level. We were seated in the tavern or bar section, not by choice but availability on arrival, in spite of our reservation request.
Fun evening with friends. Enjoyed the special of the night which was surf and turf. Cooked to perfection and not too large portions !
Went for dinner with friends, great service and menu selection. Food portions are small for price, but great flavor.
Enjoyed the evening with friends at the Back Burner. There was a little mix-up with the menus (went for dinner, got lunch menu). Liked the atmosphere in the room. Dino, our server, was attentive and pleasant. One of our guests ordered chicken but was not totally sold on its quality. The young Conrad High student who helped Dino serve (water refill) did not know the words to, "Love and Honor" - the school song. Tell him to learn the words! All-in-all an enjoyable evening and we will return.
Food and service very good as always.
May I suggest wine list to be upgraded. For the price, I believe that are better options.
Definitively I will go again.
The time before I ordered a 4oz filet - It was not even 2 oz. This time we were there for lunch- we ordered the risotto special. It was tepid in temp. at best. There was a time it was our go to place. It just does not seem to be the same
They always provide an excellent meal and exceptional service. We love dining at The Back Burner.
On Tuesday nights-- the best half-priced burgers in town!
We happened to go there on a Tuesday, it was $7 burger night. We both decided to get the burger. The Burger was not very good. Our waiter was very bad, we eat out often and he was the worst we had in a few years.
Hadn’t been there in awhile and have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Met with friends that I haven't seen in awhile. Great place because of reasonable prices, good food, and being quiet. Been going here for many years.
Service was slow and our order came out wrong so it had to be changed in a rush
Good food and service.
an old favorite is now just tired
short rib was awful, shrimp and grits ok but uninspired
pumpkin mushroom soup is always good, but never served really hot
