Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge - Wedgewood Hotel Ratings and Reviews
We were so looking forward to a wonderful evening and great food that Bacchus is touted for but to no avail. We got there early and went to the lounge for a cocktail. We ordered and waited for about 20 minutes before we were informed that the bar was out of ingredients for the signature martini my wife ordered, she relooked at the menu and ordered another cocktail from the same section of the menu to be informed they were also out of those ingredients so my wife ordered another item. When the order came I'm sure mine had been sitting in the shaker all along because the Manhattan was extremely watered down. Into the dining room we went for our reservation and were seated at a very nice table. Our order was taken, appetizers arrived and were very good. Then our entrees arrived. My wife had ordered the beef tenderloin medium rare and when she cut into it, it was at best medium well. So we sent it back, no big issue, mistakes happen but by time the order came back, I had completed me meal (at no point had there been a suggestion to hold my meal so we could dine together). Once again she cut into her steak and it was overcooked. She took two bites but had lost her appetite. Our entrees were $52.00 and $48.00 so you just expect that they will be prepared the way you requested them. My wife was offered a complimentary dessert by the manager, unbelievable! They ended up deducting her meal (which she didn't eat) from the bill, which was still over $240.00. The experience ruined a previously very good day. We won't be back.
The best thing about the evening was the Sommelier, she was delightful.
Food and service were fabulous and the restaurant has a cozy welcoming atmosphere. It was very busy and the only thing I felt badly about was that the three Christmas carol singers who appeared to entertain the customers could not be heard with the level of conversation. It was a delightful experience that I will be happy to repeat at any time of the year.
We loved Bacchus, located in the Wedgewood Hotel. We agreed that our supper there was one of the culinary highlights, if not the highlight, of our trip to Vancouver. The service was terrific- very polished and professional, yet friendly and welcoming. The decor was ornate and , at the same time, comfortable and cozy. And the food was wonderful. We began with fresh oysters, delicately seasoned, and scallops. Tender, perfectly cooked lamb, delicious sablefish, and duck that was beautifully combined with prunes and lentils followed, and we finished with a cheese plate that was replete with mainly local artisanal cheeses. The meal was complemented by a wine from the extensive wine list. This is a lovely restaurant that lends itself to special occasions. Highly recommended!
We went for high tea this afternoon. Wow! We had an amazing table with a velvet couch. The restaurant is beautiful and charming. Our server was amazing, and so was was the food. Everything served for tea was so delicious. I enjoyed the lavender earl grey, and my daughter had the peppermint. I also enjoyed a Kir Royal. This was a Thanksgiving getaway and I think this will be the highlight. You know when your teenager tells you that the table alone was worth it, it is a winner! Thank you for an amazing experience.
Exceptional service and food. Our waiter was humble, personable, mindful of when to approach us, and even gave us a detailed narration of our dishes; all said and done over hours of graceful melodies provided by a truly gifted pianist. Worth the price just for the experience!
Lovely room for afternoon tea. The dark wood, velvet furnishings and fireplace made it a very inviting place on a rainy day. All the items in the afternoon tea menu were well-made and delicious. The warm crumpets served mid-tea were a very nice touch as well. Great location to celebrate a special occasion or to just gather with friends and treat yourselves to tea.
Bacchus is a great place to go on a rainy night (and there a lot of them in Vancouver). The ambience... the fireplace... the martinis! However this time we went for the meal with some friends from out of town and it was a wonderful place for conversation.. lively and yet quiet enough to have a conversation. We had several bottles of a great local wine and the meal was outstanding.
We were staying in North Vancouver for business and pleasure, drove to Bacchus and had a wonderful meal with excellent service. Our table was next to the piano on the dining side of the railing, which made for great music but also difficult to converse. Overall though, it was a very nice evening in a gorgeous setting.
My wife and I go out to eat food we don't cook at home. This menu is very boring, won't return until they use some imagination for the food they are serving. I am happy to pay top dollar for good imaginative food but not for every day meals that anyone can cook or you can get at a diner for half the price. Love the decor, if only the food could match it.
Our food was great, service was quite slow. We didn't see our server very often. We had to pour our own wine and ask for a decanter. We weren't offered another drink we had to flag down the server in order to get another glass of wine. Appetizers arrived fast, entrees took a while. Had to wave down the server to get our bill. The server serving the table next to us was much better than the server we had. He was very interactive with his table etc. our server had a thick French accent maybe he wasn't comfortable making conversation.
On a rainy day, seated near the bar and an outside door, this restaurant was uncomfortably cold. (I'd recommend just using the lobby entrance on cold days.) Service was excellent - attentive but not rushed. I ordered the special - pasta with turkey meatballs - it was pretty average and, I felt, pricey at $26. However, this restaurant is a favourite for a girlfriends' lunch; the ambience is good; and we wouldn't hestitate to come back again.
I’ve eaten at Bacchus a few times when I’m in Vancouver for business , this time was very disappointing. I made reservations and ordered the Thanksgiving dinner which was horrible (I’ve had Thanksgiving dinner here previously and enjoyed it) turkey tasted like bland mush, gravy was awful nothing particularly tasty, even the pumpkin (hard to mess up) too sweet. I mentioned my disappointment the next day to a friend that’s a local who mentioned Bacchus has a new chef.......they need to get the old one back!
From start to finish, our dinner was wonderful.
We had the Thanksgiving menu with wine pairing and everything was on point. The stuffing, in particular, with foie gras was so good that I wanted to cry. The second we finished our bread, the woman with the bread basket was there asking us if we'd like more. The wait staff was friendly and efficient and their execution was seamless. This was our first visit to Bacchus, but it won't be our last.
Homey and comfortable in bothe the lounge and dining room. Excellent food (scallop risotto keeps me coming back for more). Service friendly and warm but never intrusive. One of my favorite places for business lunches, lunch with the girls, drinks with friends or date night with the Mr.
The quality of food was exceptional with attention to every detail from the the presentation, taste of the food, and quality of the entire restaurant staff. The piano music was an extra benefit which was quite a nice addition to the ambiance of the restaurant.
My boyfriend and I went here for our last night in Vancouver dinner. The atmosphere was exceptional. Old time, piano bar feel with a rich dark cigar lounge atmosphere. The piano player was incredible. The wine list and pairing was exceptional. Food was exceptional.
Would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.
It was our anniversary and the waiter Joel was more than excellent. He was just at the table always at the right time to pour wine before our glasses where emptied.
The food was exquisite with with special details with appetizer prior to our meal the piano playing in the background.
I would recommend this place for a wonderful tête a tête romantic evening with that wonderful person in your life.
Afternoon Tea service with 5 friends, the service was excellent, the food was delicious. The server was friendly and really accommodating. We had folks in our party that had specific dietary restrictions and the server made sure they were taken care of. Although tea service ended at 4pm they made it a point to tell us that we don't need to feel rushed and we could stay as long as we wanted. Honestly a real hidden gem for Afternoon tea. The only concern a couple members of our party mentioned was they wished they had a more extensive tea selection and that the tea was stronger. I didn't think it was a huge issue.
Dishes lacked flavor and meat and fish were not good quality, as well as over salted. The sides were poor quality and loaded with salt, the flavor was just a huge mess. The dishes lacked creativity and the ingredients weren't fresh, the kitchen and menu need a lot to f help. The service was not terrible, but felt very sterile.
