Our second time at Bacchus in three days, and we wish we had started coming long ago. A real French bistro with food well above the norm. Very friendly and attentive service, and very fine value. As the name might hint, the wine list is well chosen and represents very good value as well.
It's been over a year since we have been back to Brooklyn but wanted to stop in because on our last visit, this restaurant stood out. Wine list is impressive and not overpriced. Food was delicious and compared to Manhattan prices, what a find. Well worth the trip. Working on more reasons to travel to this restaurant. Walking distance to Barclays and easy walk from the A train.
I have eaten here 4 times within a 3 year span. The ambiance is always great (outdoor seating is really nice) & love the wine list (the wines also taste good too). Food during all those 4 times was disappointing. I have eaten food in paris, and it was not even close to it. Service is good.
I mostly just come here for the ambiance and wine.
French restaurant in Brooklyn. We had the fixed price $50 menu on Christmas Day. There was a good choice of food for each of the three courses - and no turkey in sight !! We had the lamb osso buco, filet steak and roast duck as main courses. Everything was excellent. Service was very good -- attentive, but not overbearing. Although the initial appetizer of lobster bisque and first course were served very quickly, there was a good gap between the main and dessert courses. Overall, the meal was very good. Certainly worth a return visit for the a la carte menu.
I came here for brunch on a Sunday morning. When I got there, it was still fairly empty. The problem was that they decided to sit us all the way in the back and occasionally remembered us. Service was a bit slow for us, but to be fair, I guess we did order the more labor intensive items from the menu. Their porcini ragu would be good, but the truffle mushroom sauce is too salty. The red wine lamb stew strangely went the other direction and was on the bland side. What's worse is the waitress brought us the dish with burnt toast. Was she just not paying attention or did she think we'd be ok with that? Same goes for the chefs who burned the toast in the first place. French onion soup was pretty good though.
Food was subpar. Service was inattentive.
When we first came in, it didn’t take too long for the waiter to address us and take our order. Unfortunately, that was the last we saw of him.
There was a bartender/waitress who would sometimes walk around but would try to avoid eye contact. It took A WHiLE to get the check and I’m pretty sure she ignored a few of my “excuse me” because the place was small, half empty and my voice is fairly audible.
We had also told the earlier waiter to put in mussels in the order to go, when we get our bill. Of course this was either dismissed or forgotten.
Disappointing dinner. Wouldn’t recommend and doubt it will be around for much longer.
last minute, we decided to do a restaurant for Thanksgiving rather than cooking. Not usually a fan of Thanksgiving restaurant menus ( turkey always too dry + tasteless ) we came here. because we'd been before, it's local and the food is great. What a pleasant surprise! Awesome pumpkin bisque, amazing foie gras flambe ( perfect mix of sweet and tart flavor ) and the most moist, deliciously stuffed turkey! I wish they left this on the menu for the winter - one of the best meals I've ever had here...and a mini dark chocolate soufflé for dessert that I'm still dreaming about! Only drawback was the aloof, slightly distracted waitress, who clearly wasn't happy being there on a holiday.
If I were rating Only the taste of the food I would give Bacchus 4-5 stars. However, overall our experience was inconsistent. We went to Bacchus for Thanksgiving dinner. Two of us ordered the Turkey entree. One came with 4 pieces of turkey, the other 5. Same plate came without the cranberry sauce. Same plate, again, came ungarnished. The plate with 5 pieces came garnished with micro greens and a flower. The other, nothing.
The Thanksgiving menu also stated “complimentary apple cider with dessert”, which we did not receive, yet the table adjacent to us did.
I wish I could give them the benefit of the doubt by saying it was a busy, holiday dinner service, but the dining room was not even half full.
All in all, the food was good, but consistency is key. Especially when the table orders the same dish and it comes out completely different.
Classic French cuisine with an intense flavor kick. My mom is 90 and can’t eat a full entree so we’ve taken to sharing small plates. We had the endive salad with beet and roquefort dates and other fruits which was amazing - great dressing, well balanced flavors. The duck leg with apples appetizer was off the charts with an incredible sweet, salty, spicey and savory flavor. The seafood ravioli app was also lovely but only 1 small ravioli on the plate doesn’t make it a great share plate and is expensive for what amounts to an amuse bouche in a soup bowl with a ton of sauce. The sauce had hard celery slices in it which was not pleasant. Not sure what that was about. Sugar snap peas , haricot verts or anything else might have worked better. They have a great selection of wines by the glass. I noticed that because it was Tuesday night many diners were having their Tues. nite special which is all you can eat mussels and frites. The rear dining room can get cold in winter so be aware of that when being seated.
I was excited to try this French restaurant with friends before an event. We sat outside in back of the restaurant which was really cute. There was a tree strung with lights and it was relatively quiet and not crowded. The table was very small for the four of us. It was like a mosaic tiled patio bistro table, not suitable for dinner with multiple dishes. The service was extremely slow. The staff didn’t know the menu and had to come back twice when they were out of something that we ordered. We waited far too long between courses especially since they weren’t busy with only four tables and our dishes weren’t prepared correctly. One example was the leg of lamb special. It was a very small we portion of meat that was so well done it was hard to eat. It also had a funky taste to it. The green beans still had stems on with no seasoning and the mashed potatoes were just that, potatoes. There was no butter, cream, seasoning, nothing. Just boiled smashed potatoes. Red wine sauce was congealed and reduced way too much. I could continue to describe every dish and ever mistake but I won’t. The service was so slow and inattentive that we had to get up and go to the bar to find someone we paid and left. I feel that this place seems convenient and attractive online with a well worded menu but completely disappoints. I will not return and will not recommend this restaurant.
This was good but not great. Ordered the ribeye and it seemed a bit thin although they did cook it perfectly. I had ordered rare and it was rare. The Bacchus salad was really good. My son ordered the caramel desert and it seemed a bit gelatinous. It may be that it was far from where I live in Manhattan and was a long trip there.. Servers perfectly nice. Food perfectly good. Just wasn't a wow, can't wait to come back.
I had dinner at this restaurant in mid-July 2017. It has an inviting, casual vibe. The restaurant also has an outside eating area in the rear that is spacious and comfortable. I had onion soup and the pan-seared Branzino, both of which were very good and reasonably priced. Although all of the service staff is friendly, their duties don't appear to cross over much: the "maitre'd" seats you, the "server" takes your order, the "sub-server" brings bread, water, and food, and the "busboy" wanders the eating area to pick up plates and otherwise tidy-up the table. This divided-duty arrangement, unfortunately, doesn't speed up the service--especially when the server that takes everyone's order has to march back to the front of the restaurant to enter every order (and returns to serve wine to the guests as well). Seems to me that a terminal for entering orders in the rear of the restaurant would speed things up a bit--especially if only one person is taking orders for the entire place. Don't be in too much of a hurry, and your patience will be rewarded.
Home-fries were cubes of burnt potato cubes mixed with regular cubes, made worse by tasting like yesterday's leftovers. Those crispy super thin potato sticks?? Onion strips??-(hard to tell and tasteless) on top of the potatoes only acted to hide the messy cubes underneath. Omelette had nice amount of salmon and goat cheese, as ordered, however the oil (???) had that odd bitter or reused taste. Cote de Gascogne white wine was fine. Fellow diner had to send back eggs Benedict after butter knife, then steak knife was unable to cut the english muffin under the eggs. Our server was attentive and helpful. Back garden area was truly lovely on a sunny, dry, brunch worthy Sunday.
