Bacchanalia - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Date night with my husband. Meal was quite tasty, HUGE portions! Service was extremely attentive. We each saved room for...and ordered...dessert. My husband was trying to choose between his "usual" favorite, tiramisu, and something he had never tried before. He decided to experiment and try something different. The waitress brought him a slice of tiramisu, too!
A hidden gem! Great tasting authentic Italian cuisine. Friendy and efficient service - they truly make you feel welcome and thank you profusely for coming. Best meats sauce that I've ever had! Try the Tiramisu - It's a recipe from Italy and it's to die for! The prices are reasonable and the serving size are large. I highly recommend it and it's worth the drive. We've been there twice now and drive in from Downers Grove each time.
I had the chicken Vesuvius (trying to eat healthy), and it was very good. My friends both had the gnocchi (one had spinach & the other cheese), and they both loved their dishes. I tried some of the spinach gnocchi, and it was to die for! I would describe them as little pillows from Heaven! So fresh and delicious!!! I would drive in from the suburbs just for this dish.
I took my wife here over 40 years ago when we were dating. Great Italian food. The meatballs are very good, but a little on the small side. Service is good, but when it's busy, they tend to rush you. They use to send me notices of specials and deals, but I haven't gotten anything lately.
Went here for my husband's birthday after he requested 'authentic' Italian. I stumbled upon Bacchanalia, and it did not disappoint! Food and service were amazing. Our waitress and bus boy were super attentive. If you want AUTHENTIC Italian, with zero frills, this is your spot. It's on a quaint street in Pilsen/Heart of Italy neighborhood. Can't wait to go back!
In a neighborhood of good Italian restaurants, this one is excellent. I had the best veal saltimbocca ever, without tons of cheese, but with outstanding flavor. A seat near the window in back let in the light of summer. The service is friendly and attentive. Looking forward to going back.
We needed a place to seat 14 last minute for a graduation dinner and OpenTable led us to Bacchanalia. We were soo glad it did. Such a cute, neighborhood Italian restaurant with delicious food. They accommodated us so well and everyone enjoyed their dishes. The bus boy especially was so polite and helpful. Thank you so much
First of all you should know this is not in' little Italy' as we thought>it is in' heart of italy' about 3 miles further out. the food is authentic Italian and very good but the atmosphere is like you are in a grandmas home. Sorry to say the stuffed clams are not so good>>fresh but lacking flavor. If you were in the area this would be worth the stop, but as a destination place it falls a little short. While waiting for the uber we found the characters at the bar to be very colorfull!!!! and friendly>>fun to talk to>>>could have spent more time there
We have eaten here before and the atmosphere and the people that work there are great. Liz is such and wonderful person who is a server, the owner Paula is so nice. The drinks are fabulous and food is delicious, it's just a fun place to go on a date or with friends. We'll be back there often!
My husband & I went for Valentines dinner. Heart shaped crab cakes and heart raviolis in vodka sauce EXCELLENT!! Service superb! We enjoyed the clams (so fresh & delicious) Fish salad and minestrone soup-the best! Darling little place, Frank Sinatra music playing, love the decor ( old school Italian) NEIGHBORHOOD GEM!!! Reasonable prices too ... We will be back!
We did end up waiting 45 minutes past our wait time but we were enjoying a cocktail at the bar and the company of the vivacious owner/bartender (Paula). We didn't mind the wait and as a thank you they sent over a delicious appetizer as for being so patient. The food was good, traditional Italian and seeing the colorful family dynamics of the staff was half the fun - reminded me of my childhood with a large family that has since scattered! We especially enjoyed the lasagna (grandma's recipe!).
We had dinner at Bacchanalia on New Year's Eve after attending a play in the city. This was not our first visit and Bacchanalia never disappoints. This time we introduced some our our friends to the restaurant and they loved it as much as we do. The food is old time Italian and the location is a little corner of the city named Old Italy. This is what Taylor Street used to be before "modernization".
Everything was delicious. We especially recommend the calamari which has the lightest breading imaginable accompanied by their excellent marinara sauce and the eggplant-sausage lasagna. The servings are plentiful with enough left over for take home boxes. We had a couple of bottles of an excellent Chianti Classico that was reasonably priced.
Parking is at a premium in this part of the city so we recommend using the valet service.
Bacchanalia was recommended by a friend on my first trip to Chicago 19 years ago and it's easy to see why. It is about 20 minutes from downtown but the drive is worth it for real homemade Italian food, plus they have a gluten-free menu. We had linguini with clam sauce, chicken Vesuvius, spaghetti with meat sauce and gnocchi. All were enjoyed...my kids refer to it as "that Italian restaurant that's so good." Most of the menu items are around $15. One note: they don't take credit cards but they have a little ATM in the bar. Reserving a table with Open Table was a snap also. It was a great night!
Oh my, am I a fan of their great service, large portions and beautifully decorated dining room. The waiter was nothing but kind and patient when it came to packing away all the food we ordered but couldn't finish in one sitting.
Checking in on Yelp earned us a sampling of their penne alla vodka. Mmm, loved the swauce. Their veal eggplant parmigiana is an absolute must for those seeking comfort food. Topped with baked mozzarella cheese over red saucy veal sent me salivating. With extra bread to soak up the sauce, I needed to discipline myself not to engulf the entire plate. Needless to say, I left Bacchanalia as a full happy camper.
Always great food, love the selection and fair pricing. Waitress had no idea what the specials were. Told us the T bone was "very expensive ". How does she know how much i want to spend or eat ? And a "fish" what type of fish ? what comes with the fish ? Overall great place to go and will come back but not for the service. Good food always talks !
