Zero gluten-free options, with exception of a bed of lettuce for $7. Also the whole tone of the restaurant is confusing—have no idea what they’re going for or how I would even describe it to friends
Food was not the best I have had. Staff not willing to make substitutions on meals. When asked for tomatoes on salad, we could not get it. Simple requests could not be honored.
I have been a fan of Corduroy since it was in the Sheraton. I was excited to finally get a reservation for Baby Wale - It took a bit of doing. I'd guess the restaurant holds quite a bit of the tables for walk ins because it was almost empty when we arrived. My guest's meatball casserole was a big hit. My steak was well cooked. The French fries were too dry. That is a big miss in my book. The service was fine (easy to do in an empty restaurant). The ambiance wasn't appealing to me - something about the high indirect lighting made it feel cold and too industrial. I'll definitely try it again, tho. I can imagine it would feel more fun and comfortable when there are more people.
I think the goal here was to have elevated low country food. But the "elevation" didn't work. Zucchini pupusas didn't have any zucchini flavor. Fried chicken was okay but the Thai chili dipping sauce that came with it was not a good pairing at all. So, basically worse versions of non fancy food at fancy food prices. It wasn't terrible but I won't go back.

Short ribs were boiled, so not that great. Papusas were off the chain though. Server was lovely!
Food was okay and a bit pricey for the quality/portion, e.g. 19 for 5 oversalted fried scallops.
I always want the food to taste better but it’s just aggressively mediocre. But the ambiance is lovely - I’d highly recommend for just a drink at the bar!
very attractive interior, nice twists on classic stick to your ribs dishes. Few restaurants can pull off such a varied menu at this quality. Highly recommended.
Has some good potential. The food was tasty and the server was friendly. They also have a decent drink menu. The real issue was that the place was severely understaffed for a Saturday night. The wait time for drinks and food got to be rather ridiculous. The rest of the experience didn't make up for how hungry we were by the time the food actually arrived.
Stopped in after seeing "The Price" at Arena Stage. I was delighted with the New Jersey hot dog. She got a salad and then ordered her ribs entrée to go when the waitress confessed to being was eager to see us gone.
We will return to Baby Wale, but try to get there earlier on a weeknight.
We selected Baby Wale for a girl’s night dinner after seeing the pictures and great reviews for the restaurant. We were happy to see that the restaurant does make good on the ambiance and decor, but we were quite disappointed in the slow service. The restaurant was not busy at all, so it was hard to justify the service being as painfully slow as it was. Considering the wait for our food, we weren’t all that impressed. Another downside was that the restaurant was marketed as a wine bar, but had a minimal wine selection to choose from.
Celebrated a Friday evening special occasion... quietly, without a song or sparklers! Compliments of the house - cookie on a decorated plate "Happy Birthday" in chocolate! Just right. Had the crab/lobster sandwich.. very tasty (too much bread). Nice beer selection; could use a wider wine selection. Will go back for more.
The fried chicken special was completely bland-quite a disappointment after our server hyped it up to a group of hungry diners.

We were at the convention center for Otakon and wanted better food than the convention center or our hotel and this was close. It can be pricey but every thing was delicious, our waiter Ben was great and we all had a good time so for me that makes it worth it.
Grabbed a bite to eat before a show at the Verizon Center and ordered a bunch of the small plates to share between 4 people. The cocktails were really good and the service was great. Our server was helpful, attentive and super friendly. The food was tasty (we liked everything we ordered) but we all felt like it was heavily salted, and two of us had mildly upset stomachs later in the evening/next morning. Nothing to not return over, but worth noting.
We (husand and two daughters) were vacationing in D.C. and for our last night in town, we were looking to eat dinner somewhere local and casual. The food was surprisingly good and our server was very attentive. Our cocktails were very well-made too. This was such a great place to cap off our trip!
We had a very early bite before a 7:00 show on a Saturday. Food was yummy and inventive, same with cocktails. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, but not intrusive. It was pretty quiet when were there, so conversation was easy. Guessing it would be a lot noisier if it were full. But I would definitely go back, especially at such an early hour.

Gorgeous! Loved the décor and the food was delicious. What an incredible find, and so close to the Convention Center. Very convenient, very delicious. All of us enjoyed our meals. Steak was extra tender, spring rolls were awesome. You won't be disappointed. Just the décor alone is worth going for!
The ambience is funky and urban; the service was excellent and attentive; the food was very good; the noise level--at 7:30 p.m.--was a conversation killing din of music and shouting. Clearly, some folks were having a great time, but don't go if you want to hear anything your dinner companion has to say!
I LOVE Baby Wale and have eaten here a bunch. It's a great date spot, as well as a place to grab a cocktail and awesome food with a friend. They're very accommodating of allergies, as well. I can't have gluten, dairy, soy, vinegar, wine, or tomatoes and I can still eat here!
Food presentation and delivery was underwhelming. Taste of the food was just okay.
I ordered the faux Ribeye which was great. My date ordered the ribs with coleslaw and this was where we were disappointed. For the cost of the product, the presentation of the dish was sort of what we would expect at a diner. The coleslaw was tasteless, and there weren't much ribs on the plate. We both left hungry even after having the spring roles as a starter.
Cocktails were very well made, and our server was good.

The food was excellent
I didn't think it was possible to mess up pizza, but Baby Wale found a way. It was so repulsive and I felt sick after one small slice. The $12 "cheese and ham sandwich" is essentially wonder white bread toasted with leaves on the side. The decor is fun, but don't let that fool you.
We sat down and waited for over 10 minutes before we were greeted by our waitress and then were completely rushed through the meal. Our main course arrived when we were mid-way through our appetizers (twice!). The food was mediocre and cocktails we good.
Cocktails were good & food was tasty BUT SERIOUSLY SMALL PORTIONS, especially for the price.
My wife and I split the mushroom pizza and pupusas. Neither were particularly good. The ambiance and beer were nice though. Decent place for a drink, not so great for dinner.
Baby wales menu is overwhelming to look at and has a major identity crisis. Everything from grilled cheese to ramen or pizza or a ribeye. My drinks were great and I really enjoyed the length of the bar. Dinner was not impressive. This is a fine everyday place when want a quick bite but not a standout place for dinner.
The pork dish and the duck dish were superb! Very good service.

Baby Wale is always good. Considering we were there on one of the busiest days in DC and the restaurant was full. They were able to seat us quickly and provide the same quality service they always do. We noticed that groups without a reservation were turned away, because they couldn't be accommodated.
I don't get it. The food is usually pretty good (particularly the papusas) but the restaurant is nearly always understaffed leading to terrible service. What gives. For this meal, one waitress was available for the whole dining room and she also served as hostess (on a Saturday night!). There was also only one bartender. As a result, it took 30 min to order, another 30 min for drinks to arrive, and 45 min more for meals to come out (appetizers ordered but given to another table). A second round of drinks never showed. This is not the first time this has happened. We keep making the mistake of going back and hoping staffing will be adequate.... I guess it's time to give up.
I cant say this place was great by any means. The lobster bisque was salty and had no real flavor except the not-so-fresh lobster meat that was tossed in for an additional charge. The mushroom pizza was OK, but lacked any kind of sauce. The menu is very limited and uninspired, making it hard to find something you actually would want to eat. I will not go back.
