Ba had an interesting selection of food on the menu. The moules and fries were good, but didn't come with any green vegetables. The duck was a little dry, but the sauce was tasty. We went on a weekday night and it was relatively quiet inside.

We had a great experience at Ba's. My friends came for a visit and they were looking to have a quiet evening with great food and ambiance. Ba filled all these and more. Service was attentive and the food was excellent. I have been at Ba's before and each time has been a wonderful experience.
Small menu, very simple but tasty options. Everything was very fresh and the service was great. The lamb stew was delicious.
I love coming to Ba for brunch but the dinner is a missed opportunity for good dining. Ingredients aren't listed in menu descriptions and entree options are off seasonally. No grace in knife cuts or presentation. Desserts seemed frozen not fresh. Our tart was hot in the outside still frozen in the middle. With its price point Ba could really be killing it but it seems

This is a small venue. The menu is limited but excellent. There are no frills here but it's the food that takes the spotlight. Pork chop was outstanding. We ordered the three desserts on the menu and all were outstanding.
In the hip York Blvd area, this is a nice, not overpriced (but not cheap either), restaurant. Not too big. We ate outdoors in a small patio with metal tables and chairs on uneven floor - so quaint. Daily selection of fresh items - carefully sourced and prepared, but not overly elaborate. We had 2 grilled fish dishes that were both different and tasty. Fun area to stroll around and enjoy the new local bar scene, and brewery (Hermasillo). Nearby public parking lots tend to fill up, so go early if you have a reservation.
Four of us went with a friend who had been there before and loved it on a Friday night in April. The food was excellent. We had each something different and the service great. This time, on a Thursday, they didn't expect a busy night, so they only had one waiter who did everything (seating, serving and bussing). He did a fair job of keeping up, but at the end, when more people showed up, we had to wait a considerable time to get our empty plates cleared and the check. The menu was uninspiring that night and the food just okay at best. I had raved about this place, so bringing someone new and having just an okay meal, was disappointing.
In the growing York Boulevard scene in Highland Park, French restaurant Ba stands at 51st and York. I've probably been there twenty times now. While it's priced higher than a casual restaurant (expect to spend $30 a person for entree and drink), its quiet and elegant atmosphere is exactly what I love. We often start with a bread-cheese-and-fruit board, usually not listed but can be made. The menu changes daily, although the steak-and-fries is offered all the time--a sure, good thing. It's a thin tasty steak, cooked to order. I like medium rare, and it comes medium rare. The fries are thin and accented with fresh parsley.
Most recently, I had grilled salmon there for the first time--flavorful and tender. If the grilled tuna is on the menu next time, I might try that.
While the beer and wine list is not large, the selections are wonderfully eclectic. The creme brule is out of this world. My wife and I love the place by ourselves or to entertain friends. It's a place you can talk and relax without being rushed.
The entire wait staff and kitchen staff were so accommodating we were running late for our reservation and they waited for us didn't feel rushed enjoy the overall experience!
I love the hip decor which creates for an intimate dining experience. I admire the integrity of how the ingredients were sourced.
I felt that the preparation showed quite well that the food was quite fresh, but overall everything felt underseasoned and we were underwhelmed by the food experience. The preparation of the food was fine, but nothing that I couldn't do at home.
We will likely not return.
We enjoyed the evening, the menu you was a price-fix, but full of options and inspired items. The food was great and the idea of including champagne was a nice touch. Due to the number of reservations that night, I would have staffed up on the servers. Its too bad the Hostess didn't help the servers with taking care of water and wine refills, that would have alleviated many of the issues.
Found this on Yelp. Tired Ba for Valentines Day dinner. Surpassed the positive reviews we read. Exceeded our expectations. Our server was highly knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. The food clearly showcased the effort that went into it. My wife raved about the red velvet soup, and I could have eaten the braised lobster appetizer as an entree. One negative, the tables were a bit too close together, but that is admittedly picking at nits. A truly memorable experience.
I brought my son and GF to Ba for a treat (they are at Oxy) and they loved the Moules Frites. We had never seen the mussels right on top of the fries, I'd only seen them served separately in France. But the delicious potato soup that was left when the mussels were gone was delicious. I ordered the Columbia River salmon and it was cooked to perfection with a delicious onion something on the top. Nice choice of wines. Will go back in a heartbeat.
I've been to Ba a couple of times and I've enjoyed eating there each time. I only wish they would move to Pasadena.
I am always pleased with the food at Ba, and the service is always excellent. Thrilled to have a gem like Ba in our neighborhood.
We had a nice enough dinner here. But nothing too great about the food really. By description it sounded delicious. On the plate not too attractive, or especially unique in flavor. Almost no vegetables with my Ahi Tuna. My date thought his Steak Frites lacked any flavor at all.
The French white wine was wonderful. Service very nice. And it was quiet. So nice!
We've dined here twice. Once was amazing, this time was only ok. Ambiance is still a draw - intimate setting, nice decor and a great place to go with a date or friends where you can have a real conversation, not shout over the noise. We also had a great wine, recommended to us by the server. However the food just didn't measure up this time. Not bad, just nothing special, a bit on the bland side, and not many interesting choices on the menu either. Only the mushroom brulee was outstanding. Makes me somewhat hesitant to go again, but then again, our first visit was so positive that I think I'll give it at least one more try.
We enjoyed our meal here and found the food to be way above average and the staff was friendly and prompt. Beyond the food the wine list was also excellent and priced well. I can see Ba becoming a regular spot for me.

Hip, neighborhood gem and bright vibrant brunch spot. We came to Ba for my birthday on a Sunday afternoon. Food and service were fantastic. They were very accommodating for our party of 9 even in their small space, where all tables were full. Arranging a family meal with people from all around the valley is usually a nightmare. Thank you Ba for making it easy. Food came out in a timely manner, and the bottomless mimosas were constantly refilled!
Everything wonderful...until the owner reprimanded the server in front of us. It was very awkward and uncomfortable. Great chef, but not a very professional decision. Ruined the mood for us. Knowing that's the way he treats people makes me not want to go back. And that's too bad because we liked the place a lot otherwise.
My lamb was goood and the sides perfectly cooked and seasoned. My date had the Ono and found it to be very over cooked, chewy. The salads were unremarkable.
The Radical Vine Pinot is hard to come by so that was a treat.
Have had lunch here before with stronger results so the dinner was a bit disappointing.

I would have given an overall score of four stars except for a couple of issues.
While the food definitely merited four stars, the service was simply bland. Our waitress was unable to work up a smile and had at best a dour look. In addition the menu provided a false vintage for the wine we delivered and the pricing was 3.5 mark-up which in my opinion is too high.
Again the food itself was quite good so the other elements were disappointing.
Asked the waiter if she could recommend a good Cabernet Sauvignon, she replied, looking down her nose, "they only serve French Wines".
Californian French cuisine in a kooky yet casually elegant ambiance and decor. Each meal is inventively created, prepared and presented. My salmon was perfectly seasoned and had just the right crispy skin. My friends' meals were similarly exquisite. Caring and non-intrusive service make for a lovely dining experience.
BA is a favorite of mine. Chef Graham's menu is elegant without being smothered in fancy sauces. The taste of the food shines through. Snap peas are crisp, sweeter than anything I had ever eaten and the Sea Bass was perfectly cooked with a light pesto sauce that enhanced the flavor. There are so many dishes that are noteworthy making BA a restaurant I find myself longing for. THIS IS A GEM IN HIGHLAND PARK!

Ba restaurant is a gem of a spot. Every aspect of the meal from service to ambiance to our food and wine was outstanding. We waited for a social occasion to try it, now it will be our go to for specific dishes (mushroom brûlée and duck confit) and a superb glass of wine when we know we want something special and worth it! Do not hesitate, go to Ba!
Small but cute and romantic restaurant. It was perfect for our dinner of 3 for a friend's birthday.
At the server's recommendation, we had this mushroom appetizer and a beet salad which were both really delicious. I ordered the swordfish which was good and my friends' both had the steak which they really enjoyed. Prices were average. Service was ok; the server didn't check on us once we received our meals. I will be coming back again to try some of their other dishes..
Great "frites" for an appetizer and delicious saffron risotto for main dish; excellent!
We celebrated Mother's Day a day early and really enjoyed our first time at Ba. The positive reviews I had heard can be confirmed with our experience too! Excellent food all around: we had the poached eggs spinach and crab as well as the omelette which did not disappoint. The service was quite good as well which was nice

I really liked this restaurant. It is a gem in the Highland Park area. We were seated right away. The service was friendly, competent and prompt. The food good and presented well. I had brunch and will certainly return for dinner. The ceiling of the restaurant appears to be still under construction but that did not take away from the ambiance. There is a wonderful mural on the ceiling. The furnishings and wall decorations etc. were very French. It had a very good atmosphere. I wish Restaurant Ba much success.
I rarely salt my food at restaurants but I found myself reaching for the salt and asking for hot sauce! I felt bad altering the chef's creation. However ingredients were fresh and appealing to the eyes.
Great duck liver mousse and duck confit. Right in the middle of Highland Park with easy access to bars for a drink after dinner. Service was good but I thought it was a little quiet inside the restaurant for my taste.
I hesitate to write this because we had such a pleasant experience. It's been a long time since we've been to a good foodie place and enjoyed the ideal sound level to talk effortlessly. Music was perfect and there was plenty of chatter, laughter and dining sounds to make you feel like you're in a bistro in France.
The service was pretty perfect too — friendly but not intrusive. There was no sense of being rushed at all and it was easy to get the server's attention.
Wonderful to know the food was all organic and environmentally responsible. You can taste the difference. Wine list was interesting with generous servings. We all enjoyed our choices.
My only slight reservation is that I'd asked for a rare steak and got a very well done one. We realized that one of my companions got my order and we switch plates after a couple of bites. But even then the steak was barely pink inside, but I could taste it was grass-fed beef and everything else about the Steak Frites was delicious.
Looking forward to going again and will recommend to friends. I'll just stress my choices better.
It's in the title. Everything is fresh and served nicely, but there is tarragon in everything--I don't remember eating that much tarragon in my trips to France. I would like to see the chef tone down the tarragon, as the food would stand out much better.
Service was uneven. Everyone was pleasant and welcoming, but they need to nail down the service.
First time here although we had been meaning to try it for a while but live in Studio City. The four of us tried the mushroom brûlée which was described as decadent by the server. Delicious and different. For entrees we had the butternut squash and fennel soufflés, two salmon and a steak frites. Everyone very happy. Good Rhone wine too. Prices very reasonable. Lovely eclectic decor. Service friendly and timely.
