B Star takes inspiration from India, Burma, Thailand, China, Japan and California to create a unique menu for brunch, lunch and dinner. Start out your day with a Hijki tofu scramble or chicken croquette hash along with a make-your-own mimosas option. Come in for dinner and enjoy some fried smelt, platha dipper or satay bites before dining on an entrée of spicy duck skin fried rice, pumpkin pork stew or steak tomato kebat. Ask the B Star staff about group seating or special events planning such as a corporate event, wedding or large get-together. B Star requests that you make reservations for parties of seven or more, which can be made online.
Our group was looking for something a little different and decided that B-Star sounded interesting.
The B Sprouts, Tea Leaf salad and Sautéed Peashoots with garlic were all-around favorites at our table, even more memorable than the entrees! However, the Pumpkin Pork Stew is definitely a favorite among the meat-eaters in the group.
The place is pretty small, but they do take reservations. We arrived a little early and the hostess offered to call me on my cell when our table became available so that we could go get a beer across the street while we waited. That was really convenient and appreciated.
I'm a fan of Burma Superstar and B Star. During my most recent visit we had the tuna crudo and mussels to start, both of which were great. The bar screwed up and didn't bring us our drinks until we were almost done with our entrees, but they comped them so no hard feelings. The chili tofu was great, although I feel like I could get something similar at a decent chinese spot for cheaper. The Khao Soi was very underwhelming and not very good. Overall good, but not great.
A full half-hour by bus from our hotel, we were skeptical to start with. But the service was warm and welcoming, as though we were regulars at this charming and obviously well-loved local restaurant. The appetizers--duck lettuce cups and fried brussels sprouts-- were delightfully different from those we'd tasted at other Asian restaurants, but not a jarring note anywhere. The lamb curry was incredibly tender, and my husband's Salmon curry potpie was superb with a flaky crust that seemed more like croissant dough (and better) than any pot pie topping. And the flourless chocolate cake which was intensely chocolate and not too sweet, was the best I've ever tasted. We will go again any time we are in San Francisco--even it is further from where we are staying.
We had one serious regret, however-- that we had not tried more of the wonderful-sounding appetizers (although I am not sure where we would have put them).
We had a birthday dinner there Sunday evening. Made a reservation two days ahead. Restaurant called one hour before our reservation time to remind and confirm. We were set in upon arrival and the services were excellent. Every dish we ordered were perfect.
They have an interesting twist in the salt and pepper fries. It's an amazing sauce that comes with it. Also you can never forget the salads, they are awesome.
We usually use B Star for takeout, but last week we decided to eat it there. These folks do such a great job, and it's consistently outstanding. We are lucky to have them within walking distance.
B*Star is one of my favorites restaurants in a city filled with great restaurants. Nearly everyone who comes to visit from out of town I recommend or take to B*Star, and so far everyone to a person has loved the food. The B*Sprouts , Tea Leaf Salad, and Platha Dipper are staples of any dinner there, followed by an array of delicious entrees. Mmm mmm good!
This is such a great little restaurant! Food is always awesome, service is great and we always leave satisfied and happy. Definitely on of my favorites!
Very friendly service, great deals during Happy Hour, and yummy food. Don't miss the team leaf salad!
Guess I'm biased, cuz I go here all the time. Try the brussels spouts. Platha dip, black sticky rice w/coconut i.c.:). Oh, and the salmon with rice and sour vegetables. A lunch dish, but you can ask for it at dinner, too. Ochojuka. Something like that. :)
We started going to BStar a few months ago and love it! It's a great neighborhood restaurant that often has a long wait so be sure to make a reservation. To top it all off, they have happy hour on week nights 5-7pm!
It would be nice if linen napkins would be provided at dinner.
Burmese, pan-Asian, and fusion brunch items have always been distinctive and delicious. Now service has become as good as its food. Wait staff were attentive, accommodating, and checked regularly on our table.
This place is wonderful. It's well designed and casual but the food is top notch. I got the Nicoise salad as a lunch entre which was so hearty that I was full until dinner. We also shared some appetizers and couldn't resist dessert. The sticky black rice was delicious and not too sweet.
We made some dining faux pas like bringing a baby stroller in and the servers handled it with some frustration but were accommodating.
We went because the reviews were great, perhaps we did not order the right food.
The service was good, friendly staff, popular hip scene.
the brunch menu was a bit confusing for us. perhaps we should have stuck with the eggs.
We love this place. Get the brussels sprouts, tea leaf salad, and try the jook!
Great tea leaf salad. Outstanding grilled trout with a mango salsa for dinner, it's a must have. do not miss their special desert with condensed milk and coconut ice cream. Yummmm!
I'm a regular. Love it. Love it, love it, love it.
I always leave BStar happy, well fed and satisfied. It is one of my favorite places. Great food, great, friendly service. I have never had a bad meal here.
Really enjoyed everything we tried. Love the Brussels sprouts, tea leaf salad and butternut squash soup. The mushroom pot pie was delicious. Small place, crowded tables.
Lot B-star bar. Amazing food, warm staff. Can't get enough of the tea-leaf salad. Dream about it!
Atmosphere was good. Service was great. Expensive for the little amount of food you get.
we haven't been back for a while, and it definitely didn't disappoint. The food is very good...great go to place in the "hood". Nice that they update their menu and their spices in the main courses. Will be going back for sure...
Love my neighborhood 'go-to' restaurant. The B-sprouts and Tea Leaf Salad are not to be missed.
We had an amazing time as we kept ordering additional happy hour appetizers! The Brussels Sprouts were over the top and our table loved the pork tacos. Great neighborhood find!
Love the food here; such fresh and interesting flavors. Highly recommend it!
This is a lovely neighborhood restaurant that has a friendly environment, good service, and the good is the best. B sprouts are out of this world.
We enjoyed Father's Day brunch at B Star and were very pleased with the unique choices for brunch. Some dishes were Asian inspired and there was a great mix of sausage, egg, dishes. Service was friendly and restaurant was clean and had a fun environment.
Maybe a year since last time we ate here. Knowing we were going to spend the day in the city, we booked an early table for my family of 5. Everyone loved the food, lots of great flavors. The service was friendly, and overall we had a very enjoyable time. If we lived closer, we would probably become regulars.
I'm a regular. What more can I say! Thanks, thanks.
Made a reservation, received confirmation, met with my friends, who came out of SF, waited for 45 min, went to near by restaurant to find out that B Star closed on Tues. we've planned a B-day party for our friend, very very upset and disappointed. How would you make a reservation on the day place does not even open?
Very surprised to arrive at Resturant (with my date) only to find them closed!
Open Table and Bstar need to figure out what the disconnect is.
Reservations can still take up to 45 minutes to be honored.
Went with a group of older Chinese friends and I was a bit concerned about their feedback. They all found the food tasty and the pan-Asian flavors were delicious. We all enjoyed sharing the different dishes.
We had a fabulous early dinner here for Mother's Day – the waitress was super nice about our big, bonkers group and the food was delicious, as always!
Food is outstanding. The lotus chips are so unusual and my lamb curry and wife's salad were fantastic.
Love Burma Superstar and love this place usually but most recently the food was much to heavy, oily and carelessly prepared. So much sweet or salty sauce on everything that it wasn't enjoyable. We had a 5:30 reservation so I don't want to believe it was just too slamming for them to be more attentive. Had to wait 15 or 20 minutes for drinks. A bummer.
Consistently good, great food quality, attentive service - I love the combination of flavors - a pleasant surprise for the tongue! And, I could sit and drink coffee after I'm done for some time!
platha platter, tea leaf salad, tuna ceviche and brussel sprouts are all amazing. service was a little off (dirty dishes on table for a while) this visit but very friendly.
Wonderful all the way around, we always try a new place on Clement every time we visit our daughter at USF and B Star is by far our favorite! Fried Brussel Sprouts, Tea Leaf Salad and Butternut Squash Soup were delicious finished it off with the Affogato!
