Quaint and comfortable space. Very good food, excellent service. Really enjoyed the dinner and time at restaurant.
I always enjoy the great food at B-cafe. Good service as well.
We always have brunch here when we are in town. I love the mussels, and enjoy the beer menu!
I have to say the hostess was NOT friendly. She acted aggravated with patrons before us, since they were walk-ins. We mentioned we had a reservation, and she acted the same way and never checked us in...Our waitress made up for it, and was remarkable.
Great food and great environment. It has lots of options and price is decent.
Excellent as always. Very friendly. No problem to just have a “sample” draft beer to see if I like it. Just a great neighborhood place to come back to to again and again.
Good food, great place to catch up with friends because it’s not loud and we didn’t feel rushed
B. Cafe is one of our go-to places on the Upper East Side. The beer selection is amazing and the food is delicious. When the garden is open, it's a very enjoyable place to sit. The staff are always friendly and attentive and it is usually possible to have a nice conversation. Go and enjoy!
Great mussels- we tried the Malaysian laksa (curry) preparation and were happy. Fantastic selection of Belgian ales. We had the beer paddle, which let us sample 6 different drafts.
As the name hints at, B stands for Belgian. And it is! Our wonderful and charming waitress was also Belgian.
Food: there is a good menu with some great choices, but let's be honest, one comes for the mussels and fries. Mainly for the fries... Or the mussels... Well, for both! My Significant Other likes them and I love them. The guys there know their stuff and they are wonderful any way you fancy. My only small regret is that the fish-n'-chips, which is another great choice, is nowhere to be found, while it was on the menu at the West Side place (closed about a year ago, priced out of the hood I guess).
Beverage: BEER! What else? The collection is solid and served not too cold at the right temperature.
Ambiance: relaxed, noise level is moderate to medium depending on the hour. Try the patio, it is roomier, heated and covered in cold weather, with more space between tables than the dining room.
Service: very good, friendly, professional and efficient. It made us feel welcome without being overbearing. I do have a pet peeve on waiters/waitresses checking on me every 4 and a half minutes. And interrupting. Again, again and again. 10 visits at my table does NOT make a better tip, at least with me.
We sat outside in the garden in an enclosed temp space that was heated and dry in the pouring rain. It was also QUIET. The food and service were very good and best of all, they take reservations for Sunday Brunch!!
Service was very slow during our Sunday brunch & our waitress was very ditzy. I think she was Dutch. She delivered drinks for whole table except for my husband’s. He looked confused that his wasn’t there & she laughed. Wtf would You laugh when YOU forgot something? When he politely mentioned it, she said it was coming & didn’t go get it. We had to ask for that Coke, salt & Pepper & syrup 3 times from her before asking a busboy & he eventually got it!
Hostess, on the other hand, was excellent at her job (x2) since we had to delay our ressie 3x and she politely & quickly accommodated us. Also, she was picking up phones WHILE helping to set tables close to her stand in front...no doubt picking up the slack of the ditzy Waitress who I noticed - even from the beginning while we were waiting for our table to be set up - was just hanging out chatting at the bar & not helping in any way to set up the tables. There was a full crowd waiting at the front of the restaurant by the bar & we + a few people waiting also noted that 5-6 tables had not been set up long after people paid their bills & therefore remained empty. I commend the poor hostess for her dedication. She seemed like she was trying to do her job+ the ditzy waitress & busboys’ job. I would’ve tipped her instead of the lousy service we got during our meal. If I were the owner, I’d give that hostess a raise!
Good food. Poor poor poor service, rude, long wait to get food and to take our orders. 45 minutes for a cup of tea!!!
Service was so bad and our waitress Sarah was so incredibly rude. I asked for several items during the meal (water, condiments, etc.) multiple times without every receiving anything requested.
They applied an automatic gratuity which was stated on the menu (parties of 6 or more, we were 7). My issue is this waitress clearly Sarah didn't care about our table at all since she knew she was getting a 20% tip.
On top of all this when the bill came I gave her simple instructions on what amount to put on the 3 credit cards I gave her which of course she didn't listen and made a complete mess of everything.
I actually emailed the restaurant to get the managers information so that I wouldn't have to leave a bad review but no one ever got back to me.
Don't waste your time or money at this place...
Best waffle ever! Had a great dinner (steak frites for me and the Carbonnades flamandes for my wife) and drinks. Service was friendly and our server made good suggestions for beer pairing. But seriously the waffle! It was crunchy but soft and fluffy on the inside and just the right amount of sweetness. The speculaas topped it off. I will definitely make it back.
yummy very very good fun time yes
This is a very nice neighborhood spot. The people are very nice and the food is very good. We want to try the moules next! The coffee and cappuccinos are quite overpriced, especially considering they are mediocre.
My husband and I had a most enjoyable meal. The food was very tasty and the atmosphere warm and comfortable.
Great Authentic Belgian food, lovely service and ambiance
B Café staff went above and beyond to celebrate my friends birthday. The service was impecable and the food was DELICIOUS.
Omg this place is great. Friendly staff. The food was so yummy I highly recommend this place
The food was fair to good. Would definitely recommend the mussels (we have the Provençale - the broth was delicious), but the steak frites and the meatball special was fair at best. Our server was pleasant, but overall service was very slow. Also our table was too close to a glass/flatware station, and the wait staff kept bumping into my chair to obtain the items for other tables during the meal.
We love this place
Great experience-- perfect restaurant for a cozy winter dinner. We both had the steak frites and it was truly delicious in a great red wine shallot sauce. Also tried the giant pretzel which was very tasty
Food is consistently good as well as service. Nothing fancy just good and satisfying.
Xmas eve dinner. Great Belgian beer selection, Bistro food (Belgian/French). Great service. Nice cozy atmosphere on a wet winter night
The food was really good, but I was disappointed the brunch menu didn't have many sides (just bacon, sausage, or eggs) or any "starter" options at all — would have been nice to have some options there. Service was fine.
excellent food and service with an extensive beer menu
B. Cafe is one of our favorites and a regular haunt. We enjoy the outdoor dining area when the weather is suitable. The food is always delightful - they do a very nice assortment of Belgian dishes and always have specials. It's a good idea to book ahead as they are quite popular. The wait staff is invariably very pleasant and attentive. The beer, as might be expected, is a highlight and comes served in appropriate glasses at the appropriate temperature. I don't usually go for the Moules, but had them this time with Frites and I have to say it was delicious. We also appreciate that it isn't screaming "what? what?" loud - just buzzy enough to be pleasant but you can also enjoy the company of your dinner companions.
I’m thinking this place is headed in the same way as it’s west side location
Been here a few times lately and one of their signature dishes their steak frites not available plus very few people my last few visits
Seriously understaffed although the crew do their best
I made a bet tonight with a neighbor they won’t be around in six months
I always liked the concept
First visit, did not disappoint! Took a party of 6 dear old foodie friends after a morning at the Met and everyone loved it. The mussels were sensational, the fries too, perfect burgers, excellent steak sandwich, the waffles are crazy good. We shared 3 perfect desserts (cheesecake, a sundae and something else I cant recall ), one better than the next. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation and every effort was made to seat us within 6 minutes. Our server was attentive and delightful, and a larger beer selection, one would be harder to find.
When of my favorite places in the neighborhood. I have tried all the dishes, great chicken, scallops and steak. Terrific Tuna Yartare appetizer. Highly recommend!
Romantic and beautiful for us on a windy cold night, but I could see it might be bustling in the warmer months when the beautiful garden is open. We started out with some Belgian beer (wonderful variety of beers here) and I shared a cheese plate with DH. Really nice selection of different cheeses and some salad and walnuts on it too. For an entree, I had the Berkshire pig, which was three cuts of the pig with a variety of mustards and sauces. It was paired with a tripel karmaliet on the menu, so I ordered one of those and it was a delicious pairing. DH had the carbonnade flamande which is Belgian beef stew cooked in beer. He thought he won, as usual, because the beef had such a deep taste with the slight bitterness from the beer. I disputed that because I liked mine, particularly the sausage and the variety of tastes. So we called it win-win. The waitress came by and told us that DH's beer was from her home town in Belgium which just increased his sense of entitlement but was nice of the waitress. For desert I had the Dame Blanche which was ice cream with really good chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The waitress came by and said that she always gets double chocolate sauce on hers because, you know, chocolate, and brought me a second beaker and she was right. DH had a waffle which he claimed was good because there were so many different things you could put on it and it did taste good, but I won by generously giving him a little of my extra chocolate so he could also feel luxuriously bathed in chocolate. This restaurant was really magically good. Highly recommended!
Great weekend brunch. A neighborhood gem.
Cute place with exposed brick that creates an environment too loud for normal conversation. Servers are friendly but insuffciently attentive (had to ask for coffee refills), and saddled with a slow kitchen (30+ minutes to send out a midafternoon brunch order for 5 people.) Food was generally tasty, with exceptions: French toast and chicken both were dry; salad was overdressed and too oily. French fries were disappointingly mushy.
Very good but if you order waffles, pancakes, very stingy w/ syrup.
A little 1/2 ounce of syrup and took over 10 minutes asking 3 people for more.
Pet peeve... water... can you put some ice in it...
Fries are great. My buddy from Chicago kept stealing them from me.
We went for brunch. Make sure ask for extra butter , which didn't come with meal and more syrup.
Attentive yet unobtrusive service, charming ambience, outstanding authentic Belgian food, especially the “frites” (Belgian French fries), reasonable prices. One of our favorite haunts for a romantic meal or to take friends.
my go-to brunch spot! whatever you get, get it with fries.
Usually a great spot. Overbooked and unstaffed. Rude waitress to boot. I’m a regular and she was awful
Love this place for brunch. Will definitely go again and again.
Hadn’t been in awhile.. our Sat experience was excellent.. who knew they had a patio.. lovely!! Service was terrific.. menu recommendations.. spot on.. the shishito peppers, great.. the recommended crispy brussel sprouts.. excellent!
