First visit, did not disappoint! Took a party of 6 dear old foodie friends after a morning at the Met and everyone loved it. The mussels were sensational, the fries too, perfect burgers, excellent steak sandwich, the waffles are crazy good. We shared 3 perfect desserts (cheesecake, a sundae and something else I cant recall ), one better than the next. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation and every effort was made to seat us within 6 minutes. Our server was attentive and delightful, and a larger beer selection, one would be harder to find.
Romantic and beautiful for us on a windy cold night, but I could see it might be bustling in the warmer months when the beautiful garden is open. We started out with some Belgian beer (wonderful variety of beers here) and I shared a cheese plate with DH. Really nice selection of different cheeses and some salad and walnuts on it too. For an entree, I had the Berkshire pig, which was three cuts of the pig with a variety of mustards and sauces. It was paired with a tripel karmaliet on the menu, so I ordered one of those and it was a delicious pairing. DH had the carbonnade flamande which is Belgian beef stew cooked in beer. He thought he won, as usual, because the beef had such a deep taste with the slight bitterness from the beer. I disputed that because I liked mine, particularly the sausage and the variety of tastes. So we called it win-win. The waitress came by and told us that DH's beer was from her home town in Belgium which just increased his sense of entitlement but was nice of the waitress. For desert I had the Dame Blanche which was ice cream with really good chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The waitress came by and said that she always gets double chocolate sauce on hers because, you know, chocolate, and brought me a second beaker and she was right. DH had a waffle which he claimed was good because there were so many different things you could put on it and it did taste good, but I won by generously giving him a little of my extra chocolate so he could also feel luxuriously bathed in chocolate. This restaurant was really magically good. Highly recommended!
Cute place with exposed brick that creates an environment too loud for normal conversation. Servers are friendly but insuffciently attentive (had to ask for coffee refills), and saddled with a slow kitchen (30+ minutes to send out a midafternoon brunch order for 5 people.) Food was generally tasty, with exceptions: French toast and chicken both were dry; salad was overdressed and too oily. French fries were disappointingly mushy.
Very good but if you order waffles, pancakes, very stingy w/ syrup.
A little 1/2 ounce of syrup and took over 10 minutes asking 3 people for more.
Pet peeve... water... can you put some ice in it...
Fries are great. My buddy from Chicago kept stealing them from me.
We went for brunch. Make sure ask for extra butter , which didn't come with meal and more syrup.
Hadn’t been in awhile.. our Sat experience was excellent.. who knew they had a patio.. lovely!! Service was terrific.. menu recommendations.. spot on.. the shishito peppers, great.. the recommended crispy brussel sprouts.. excellent!
My husband had mussels Provençal.. I had scallops.. portions were plentiful!! The reisling wine a very nice surprise!! We won’t wait so long to return.. thanks Cafe B!!
Eight of us had dinner in the garden to celebrate two friends' birthdays. Beer, wine, food, and service were fantastic. Great selection of Belgian beer on tap and even more in bottles. The back garden was absolutely delightful. Croquettes, crispy Brussels sprouts, moule frites and carbonnade flamande were excellent, followed by delicious Belgian waffles for dessert.
We travel from the west side to eat at B Cafe. They have authentic Belgian food, well prepared. My wife likes the steak frites, and my favorite is the moules frites mariniere. The bartender is the best, and has a well-deserved reputation. The selection of Belgian beers is impressive.
Favorite neighborhood place for brunch and afternoon dining. Friendly service, excellent beer selection, the Pear Tree cocktail is life changing, and you can eat healthy with a delicious chopped or Norwegian salad, or you can go more brunchy breakfast, or you can to town on moules et frites! Happy times.
Meatball special was very good - not something I would make at home. Late Sunday afternoon accounts for low noise level.
Belgian waffle dessert was just okay - the chocolate sauce was good but the "cream" was out of a can, not real whipped cream. The coffee was terrible - tasted like instant coffee.
The B Café is an out of the main East side strip. My friend and I often look for brunch places on the East side (or West). We welcome a quiet, trendy spot with low noise so we could catch up on conversation, etc. The B Café had moderate noise, but we were able to talk comfortably. The service was a bit slow, but just OK. The food was very good. My friend had the eggs Florentine and the eggs were done quite right and the spinach was savory. My mussels were tasty, a bit small but succulent for their size. The French fries were tasty and done 'right'.
We would go again and recommend the B Café.
The B Cafe was a good find in the Upper East Side. We went for brunch and the spot was perfect. Obviously a lot of locals eat here as the outside terrace was full. We sat inside and the restaurant is charming, the staff very attentive and the food met our expectations. I would definitely return the next time in NYC,
