About

This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - B. Cafe West brings the sophistication and tradition of Belgian cuisine to uptown Manhattan. With an array of customary Belgian dishes, along with the largest selection of Belgian beers in New York City with our unique selection of draft and bottled beers, we aim to bring the essence of Belgium stateside through high quality, authentic cuisine and service. In addition to our famous Moules Frites (fresh mussels served with our signature fries), B. Cafe offers the best of Belgian cuisine - perhaps with a Gauffre De Bruxelles (Belgian waffle) from our brunch or dessert menu, our Steak Frite Belgique as a dinner entrée, or a Corsendonk Pale Ale to drink. B. Cafe welcomes you to join us in embracing the elegance and warmth of Belgium, right here in Manhattan.

Ho Ho Ho.
Who wants to tangle with midtown traffic - vehicular or pedestrian - a week before Christmas, no-bah-deee! Hence, my choice of B. Cafe West on the UWS.

Business guests from Ohio joined me, only to be greeted by the prickly bartender who said his liquor delivery had not arrived, so he would not have the usual assortment of imported beers on tap or in bottle. I found that to be a rather tasteless welcome upon entering a unique restaurant in which I have previously dined (despite the same bartender).

Our most gracious waiter led us to our table and he apologetically informed us that, in fact, the liquor stock had been depleted because this B. Cafe would be closing in a few days (others in NYC would remain open) due to a lease/business issue. Thus, the typically robust beer selections were not available and there was no red wine! Amazed as I was that a Belgian restaurant couldn't offer so much as a glass of red jug wine, we decided to stay. I inquired as to the reliability of the menu options and he assured me all in the kitchen was up to par....it was! He has waited on me before so I trust him. Between his service and the superb kitchen personnel our meal (and dessert) was delicious and along with a bottle of white wine and the few beers we consumed...all went well.

Two positives emerge from this experience:
1. I must now make reservations at B. Cafe's midtown locations;
2. I will not have to endure that bartender.

Happy New Year!

This is a great spot for a date - delicious food but very tight seating. Highly recommend the mussels and duck sandwich!

I think they are going out of business. They were out of so many beers and wines and then, as I was leaving, I heard another diner ask for decaf coffee and the server said they were out of that too. I mean, really? Couldn't you just run down to Fairway and pick some up?

In any case, I've been here a few times and always enjoyed it but it just wasn't the same this time. If they are still here in a few months, I will try it again to see if they were just having a bad day.

It's been a nice local drop-in on the Upper West Side, serving fine beers, moules frites, bitterballen, and the like. Unfortunately they've lost their lease and will be closing.

Not sure what was happening when we ate there, but the manager refused to serve us a bottle of wine. He would only serve/sell glasses of wine? Also, the room was very dark and freezing. People were eating dinner in their coats. I saw the manager turn down the thermostat at one time. We have eaten here several times before, but will not be returning.

Upon entering B. Cafe West, you're accosted by a women with a frowm, whom is supposedly the host, yet their is nothing about her demeanor that suggests that she actually wants to be their or welcome you to have a good meal. Surprisingly, this was not the first time we have encountered her and been rushed to the table so she could continue texting on her phone.

It took about 12 minutes, to be precise, for the waiter to greet us, pour water, and take our order. Food took approximately 14 minutes to come out of the kitchen, yet to say it was good would be a bold faced lie. The eggs for the eggs Benedict were over cooked along with oil soaked French fries. My dining companion ordered a burger, which surprisingly, came out at slightly colder than room temperature, since there were char marks around the burger; suggesting that it had actually been on a grill at some point in time, yet not in the past 20 minutes.

The hardest part to belive about all of this was that after waiting for the check, it seemed the entire front of house staff decided to go towards the bar to chat with one another, leaving the back waiter to be the only one clearing tables.

Sadly, this is the last time I'll ever visit this restaurant until things improve, all good things must come to an end.

A great place to grab a quick bite to eat. Regretfully, we understand from the hostess that the restaurant is closing. (The location on the East side and downtown will remain open.) Too bad, we have eaten here more than once and really enjoyed it.
