My daughter and I came for brunch before going to see “Wicked.” And I’d stayed at the Kimpton Monaco hotel in Seattle the week before; wanted to give the company my business. Everything about our experience was impeccable: The service was excellent and so was the food. Prices were extremely reasonable and the portions were huge! My daughter had a breakfast sandwich and I had the Chesapeake omelette which had crab, bacon, asparagus and cheese, topped with hollandaise. The roasted potatoes served with our meals were delicious. Even the toast that came with my omelette was over the top! We also enjoyed our Bloody Marys. I can’t wait to go back!!!
Nice place to eat. Service was excellent. What was billed as a "filet mignon" special tasted more like a flank steak in slices, I believe. Still tasty. Crispy mushroom side is outstanding.
Our server Dominic made this experience wonderful. He was very personable and knowledgeable about menu items and very welcoming and friendly. We had the charcuterie plate and on his recommendation I tried the catfish and grits which was melt-in-the-mouth flavorful just a hint of heat as he had extolled it. My dining companion had the steak frites and the steak was perfectly done with plenty of frites to go around. The raspberry sorbet was a perfect dessert to finish off with and bursting with raspberry flavor. We ate upstairs which was warmer and a bit quieter than the bar area downstairs
Unremarkable brunch options at above-average prices. Service was pleasant but sparse. A bit of delay in getting seated at the time the table was reserved. The location is very convenient to the Baltimore Convention Center, though, making it a good option for anyone who doesn't want to take taxis long distances.
My dinner was delicious but my wife had the Prime Rib and said it was cold. Plus, it took forever to get our food. Wonder if the kitchen was backed up.
We arrived early for our reservation and were told our table would be ready but I think they forgot about us because our friends showed up and the hostess said we had already been seated.
Not sure if I will go back. Too many hiccups.
I put Yes that I would recommend but with reservations.
Plan to spend 3 hours on dinner, not because you ordered 5 courses but because the service is extremely slow. Make sure you know what you want before the server comes or good luck getting him back. Food was good but not worth the wait.
We ordered wine by the glass and at $15.00 per glass the glass was less than 1/2 full. I ordered steak and fries the steak was very tough. We had to track the waiter down for salt and pepper. Several years ago we ate upstairs and this time we were seated down stairs, what a stark difference in atmosphere, which was dark, cold and open. I felt like we were eating in an unfinished basement.
Conveniently located near the Baltimore Convention Center in a charming historic hotel, this restaurant falls short. Most importantly, the food is thoroughly mediocre. We were there for brunch; you needed imagination to taste the crab meat in their signature chesapeake omelette - -it was dry and boring, and the coffee was notably bad. The service was friendly but not easy to get despite the restaurant being quite empty; the server was gracious in responding to our request to lower the volume of the music.
Drinks and dinner came quickly but dinner was luke warm (probably pulled from a warmer or microwaved). Dessert order took forever and we had to reject it took so long it we would be late for our show.
Overall a disappointing and pricey experience.
Service was great. Happy hour drink specials good. Food was just okay and overpriced.
We were seated quickly and did not have a long wait for our food. The food was delicious. The hostess and other wait staff were attentive and personable. I would dine here again.
I'd like to write a more enthusiastic review for this restaurant, but our experience there this past weekend was a mixed bag. Our server was attentive, but it seemed like the kitchen was rather slow. We waited 45 minutes for our soup and salad, and it wasn't a particularly busy night. All of the food we had was good to very good, and arrived hot, but the pace of service could have been faster. The layout of the restaurant is not ideal if you are seated on the lower level , as the front door lets cold air in on most of the tables. Our meals were solid, and we'd return to the restaurant, but it's not our top choice.
The restaurant was understaffed and cold on the morning after Valentine’s Day. Seems like the majority of their staff called in sick. It was drafty however the food was right what it needed to be.
Pricey, the food was good but they garnished everything with shaved rock salt which ruined the taste of my fillet. Other then that the food would have been excellent.
Try a regular night. Valentine’s Day service was below average. We arrived a few minutes early had to wait as they were holding to reservation times. No problem however the table we were seated at was the empty table right by the door. A bit weird to be told to wait right next to where we would get seated. We were told a waiter would come get our drink orders. Finally a manager came by and said “I’ll take your orders if you like so you don’t have to wait”. He took the whole order top to bottom and somehow our first course arrived before our drinks. We sat around for a bit until we were able to get silverware and napkins. Finished the first course before the drinks made it to the table. The drinks weren’t something fancy that had to be made.. a glass of scotch and a glass of Prosecco. Entree was wonderful which saved the night. Dessert option was totally different from the menu listed. The cheesecake was like a store bought cupcake with cheese filling piped on top. Service left a lot to be desired. I would have much rather waited to have a dining experience in typical order. People dining around us would grab their napkins and had jackets over their shoulders because as soon as the door opened you would get hit with a burst of cold air.
We came here tonight for Valentine’s Day. The food was delicious. The service was extremely slow. I get that they were a bit busy, but they weren’t packed to where people were waiting. Even so, it was slower than slow.
Lovely night spent at B a la carte was also available!)
Valentines Day. Only one valet parking attendant so there was a wait. Staff was very helpful & hung my coat for me after I’d worn it to the table. They wanted to seat us by the bar but we’re accommodating in taking us upstairs where it was quoted. Drinks seemed watered down but wine & food was good. Oysters too small son eat time I’d get salad. Filet was excellent & prepared perfectly. I will return.
There was one waiter for all of upstairs which was basically sat at the same time. Our appetizer never came and we only were able to get one drink. The service was extremely poor and we were never checked on. Very disappointing since it was reviewed so well. Will never return. Very upset since it was our valentines dinner out.
Service was terrific. The atmosphere is very appealing. This is a great place to meet business associates. It’s also convenient to parking and has valley.
Good food and great service.
Visited on a Saturday evening and our server wasn't very attentive. In his defense he had at least ten different tables he was taking care of but that wasn't our fault and we expected better service. As far as the food goes, we had the charcuterie board as a starter which was pretty good but I had the pan seared crabcake entree and it was extremely bland. It was very dense with very no lumps of crab but rather fine pieces of cheaper crab meat. I thought for sure being in Baltimore they would now how to make a good crabcake but this reminded me of something that comes frozen in a box. I also had the crispy mushrooms. I love mushrooms but found these way to salty and far from crispy. For dessert I had the raspberry sorbet which was extremely sour and I might as well just sucked on a piece of lemon.
The service was very slow and we had to ask for every refill.
Others said food was okay. Crab cake not great. I had the lobster roll and was impressed that is was made with just butter. Fries were great.
Ambiance nice. Food just so-so. Pricey for Baltimore City lunch.
Birthday on reservation not noted by staff Cale dry No ice cream and when questioned answer was chef not used to new menu Nonsense
I would recommend for someone staying at the hotel and wanting a creative menu with good food. While a manager did check with people, the 1:1 service was ok but not overly welcoming and attentive. However, she did do her job.
My husband and booked both a room and dinner for a low key and relaxing New Years Eve together and not only were we not disappointed, we were blown away with the service, hospitality and beauty of the hotel and restaurant.
Rooms was spotless, beautifully decorated and what can I say about the enormous Japanese spa tub except...aaaahhhh!!
Food on the 5 course menu at the Brasserie was beyond delicious and I live the openness of the prep area where I enjoyed watching the chefs put the final touches on everything.
We will be back for Valentines Day weekend.
One night, one time was just not enough.
Good Evening, I just want to take the time to thank you for choosing to ring in the New Year at the B&O. I also thank you for choosing to come back to us for Valentine's Day this coming weekend. It's feedback like your's that let us know we are doing something right. Since your last visit we have changed the menu and I cannot wait for you to try the new items! Feel free toast for me when you are in Friday! Again, thank you! Adrian Liles Asst General Manager B&O American Brasserie
The food was nothing special. But it was hard working off of a fixed menu for New year's.
This was a typical overpriced restaurant in a overpriced hotel that was listed as 5 star but the only thing 5 star about it was the price. The food portions were tiny ( one crab cake entree for $32!) and all sides were ala carte . I had to ask for a dinner roll and was served a stale obviously previously frozen, mass-produced store bought roll. Nothing 5 star about it .
We were a party of five, on an evening that was fairly empty in the dining room. Service was ok, a little slow, and a little casual for my taste.
I ordered the scallop entree and the cauliflower side. The cauliflower was very good, and enough to share, as promised. The scallops were tasty, but only three medium sized scallops for around $30! I think that’s pretty skimpy. Several others ordered crab cakes which were just ok. New York strip was average. I ordered coconut cream cheese cake for dessert. It was ok, but I couldn’t detect any coconut.
Had a very mediocre lobster salad, with a few additional shrimp for an uncharge. One of the most forgettable $26 salads I've ever had. The only reason we ate here was to use up the $100 Amex food and beverage credit while staying at the Hotel Monaco. Stay at the hotel; eat somewhere else.
The B&O is a solid place--I've had many good meals there. We had oysters (which were good but not great), a delicious burrata salad, scallops that were very tasty, and rockfish which was very good. The rye IPA was delicious. All in all a very nice meal--although not anything real special.
Thank you for choosing to dine with us! It is much appreciated. Have you heard we have a new menu out? See you soon. B&O Team
Food was great and we made our play in plenty of time!
Service was weak, mediocre at best. Not sure if she was knew but definitely lack enthusiasm. She seem to be new and could not handle her shifts demands that day. I will give them another try
Took a friend out to dinner for his birthday. Perfect experience until I went to pay. The first time back the server noticed a drink included in my tab that they weren’t able to make. She had to get the manager to correct it. Like 10 minutes later the manager comes and says “they’ve never encountered a card like mine before and it seems to be incompatible with their system.” A Visa? I offered to go withdraw cash to pay for the dinner and she directed me to the nearest ATM.
On the way I looked in my bank app and they had charged over $600 on my card tying up all of my funds and overdrafting my account on a $250 bill. I found the manager again and explained that I would not be able to pay them until the holds cleared because they had over two times the payment on hold in my account from their earlier errors. I showed her my account and they apologized and offered to comp me the meal. I declined and offered to return after the holds cleared. I asked my fiance to go get cash to tip the server and she suggested I “not worry about that”. I explained at this point that was all I was worried about.
Their accounting people had the holds cleared that night, no easy feat and it speaks volumes to the rest of the organization. So I returned the next day to pay and was told I would have to wait 15-20 minutes for the manager to help me (without even knowing why I was there, to pay for her mistakes). Then she rings everything up under her. I know in restaurants of this caliber that the servers have goals and I don’t think this was fair that she gets to look good when my server did all the work and the manager just screwed things up, disparaged my bank, tried to bs me, showed zero concern for her crew, and stole sales.
I will be checking to see if she’s on duty when I want to come back and walking out if she’s there. There’s not telling what level of service I’m going to get with her at the helm.
The food and service used to be so much better. The crab was missing my crab soup and my water glass was never refilled.
We arrived at 8:10 for the 8:15 reservation and were seated immediately. Unfortunately, in spite of the restaurant being virtually empty, we were not approached by a server. I left to use the restroom and returned to find that a server still had made not contact. It was at that time we decided to leave the restaurant. BIG disappointment!
Typically we always have an excellent dining experience. However this time we ordered the prime rib special and my companion's steak was barely edible. We were comped for her meal but what a disappointment.
Great food and service
Everything was good except when someone walked in and a gust of cold air chilled us out.
