From start to finish everything was amazing. The food, venue, drinks and especially the hospitality were second to none....
First time at Azucar, was attracted by the menu. The food was amazing and the service was as good, with everything going on the waitress where very attentive and friendly! Would definitely recommend. The day we dined with Azucar there was some kind of function going on, on the out side terrace. Even though we had booked in advance we where not made aware of this. It made the ambience a bit weird, we felt like we shouldn't have been there so we rushed slightly and the music was very loud.
A cut above the standard UK tapas restaurant - clearly freshly cooked rather than reheated/refried, and with quite a few original spins on classic dishes. Quality food, a lovely atmosphere and incredibly friendly staff - i'll be going back.
Bad service, was a group booking, the restaurant was not fully booked but we still got wrong food delivered, had to ask for things repeatedly that should have been brought over anyway e.g glasses with water
I'm always a bit sceptical when going to tapas restaurants as I never really know how much I'm going to get for my money. I asked the nice blonde girl who served me, how much I should order and she recommended 3 or 4 dishes. I was feeling quite hungry so I was a bit greedy and went for the four options. My flat mate went for 3. I must say, the portions are great, the nachos and the chicken were amazing and if you've not tried the lamb dish there then I recommend you order it!
I'll definitely be going back again soon, in fact my work just booked the annual night out there so I'm excited to see what the set menu ends up being like.
We went here for an after meeting bite to eat and had a great time...... the food was fabulous and the waitress was very nice..........
The service was very poor. There was only one waitress serving and we were left for about 15 minutes before she was able to come over to take our order. It was another 15 minute before we even got our drinks. The food was very average and not good enough for me to want to go back. I wouldn't recommend to my friends.
Found Azucar through Open Table
Not a huge range of Tapas, but good and decent sizes
Good Value, but music too loud
Some time ago I used to come here regularly and was always impressed by the bustling atmosphere and enjoyable, unusual tapas. I hadn't been for over a year, and sadly when I return things have turned for the worse. On a Saturday night it was quiet and lacked atmosphere, the staff were unenthusiastic and didn't seem like they wanted to be there, and the food was way under par. From what I'd previously experienced, and for the price you pay, this was a very disappointing meal, with many of the dishes being dry and bland, with the rest having an identical sauce which seemed like nothing more than tinned tomatoes. Half the wines on the red list were out of stock on a quiet evening, and when the wine we selected was brought, it was dumped on the end of the table with presentation, and no offer to pour.
Sadly, I wouldn't return, and would discourage others from doing so.
We had a £15 Groupon voucher for 6 tapas for two and it was excellent value. We have been wanting to try Tapas, but didn't want to make the mistake of ordering expensive selections to then find we didn't like them. This option allowed up to try and not worry about the price. The prawns, fishcakes and meatballs were particularly good choices. We'd now go again with more confidence.
My visit was following offer which came up on Groupon for a Tapas meal for 4. I had read in the YEP about Leeds having a few Tapas venues so I took the plunge, bought the deal and selected the date and time (2nd April via opentable to kick off a long Easter break). Then I did the research on Azucar and came across some less than complementary reviews!!. Generally service was a concern but then I stumbled across the colorful history of the owner!. I will let readers follow up that one.
Armed with some good comments from work colleagues, a large thirst and an open mind our group set off by taxi in anticipation. An easy walk over a footbridge from the Calls led us to the restaurant where we were promptly shown to our table. Regrettably 1 of the main selections wasn't available but the menu offered a decent range & what I saw being served on other tables looked very good.
We ordered drinks and food and waited. Drinks came reasonably quickly and food followed about 10-15mins after which for us was ideal (time to catch up a few things). Our deal offered 12 dishes so with some side orders we had a great cross section for everyone. We didn't really need the side orders but combined with a few more drinks we leisurely ate all in front of us.
The fact we were on a Groupon deal did not matter, we felt no difference in how our group was treated. The food quality and taste was very good, the service was attentive and responsive and the bill for the extras (drinks, side orders) quite reasonable. At is peak it was over 3/4 full with a good atmosphere. Overall a great start to Easter made better by Rhino's beating Cas the following day.
I mentioned my initial concerns to the head waitress when I was leaving. She explained 1 or 2 things had changed recently and hopefully our visit was enjoyable. It was I replied and none of our group would have any concerns going back.
The restaurant was way too busy for the number of staff. Indeed it seemed to me only one member of staff was actually doing anything. The poor ladywas clearly rushed off her feet, but was polite and friendly all the same so some credit there. I don't know how she coped. The food was shocking though. There are lots of tapas places in Leeds, this wasn't a good experience. it seemed to be a collection of little bowls of mush. the chorizo dissolved into the sauce, and the over cooked potatoes (bravas) had too much of a very basic sauce tasting of tinned tomatoes with a bit of spice. I also had calamari which was essentially deep fried rubber bands. Having ordered drinks several times, with none arriving they at least took them off the bill!
The brewery wharfe area is great for nights out, I'd have thought the restaurants would do well and be of a higher standard than this.
Arrived at restaurant at 8pm, were seated promptly and left with menus, it took unitil 8.20pm until the waitress returned to take our drinks order so at this point we also made our food order so as to reduce any further waiting.
Waited over an hour for the food to actually arrive despite the waitress bringing us empty plates a few miutes after we ordered, during this time nobody came to our table to offer us any further drinks and in the end I went to the bar myself and ordered drinks.
Finally the food arrived, which I have no complaint with it was a tasty and filling meal. During the meal the waitress came and asked if we would like another drink so we placed our order but we finished eating and still these drinks did not appear, we decided to cancel this drinks order and just ask for the bill, my boyfriend had to again get up and approach the bar staff for this to happen. We waited about 15 more minutes and the bill had not arrived so we approached the bar and paid that way.
The restaurant was busy and the wait for the food wouldn't have been such an issue if we had been able to relax and have a drink while we waited but even this service was slow or non existent.
Despite the food being good the service has put us off returning again.
Welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff.
We waited a while for the food but was well worth the wait when it came.
We did go at a peak time on Friday evening though so expected a wait of that size really,
Very comfortable and not rushed out didn't feel on a conveyor belt as you can in some places.
The only complaint was the calamari was overdone but was sent back and replaced with little fuss.
This was a groupon deal and well worth it too.
Staff super helpful too
We was recommended here after deciding last minute to go out for a meal and what luck we was. When the portions arrived to the table they looked on the small side but I can't describe how full we were by the time we had finished. Great meal and will be back
Lovely welcoming staff, excellent food (especially the battered prawns) and a great atmosphere :)
Although we had a limited menu (understandable just after New Year's Eve) the food was excellent and of high standards. The staff were very friendly and attentive. This is about my fourth visit and it was just as good as the very first time we went. The recommend button isn't work but yes I would recommend this restaurant
It was a very nice place for dinner. The staff very friendly and helpful
Groupon deal was a good offer but wouldn't have wanted to have paid the full price for what you get.
Think they were busy so service was a little slow
