Ayse Meze Lounge Ratings and Reviews
We have always enjoyed being at this restaurant for special occasion and eating very tasty food. However, for the first time, the service was unusually slow. We ordered the early bird special as soon as we sat down. After an hour, all we had eaten was an appetizer and salad. We eventually had to do a take out for our entrée and dessert as we needed to leave for another engagement that night. The slow service could have been due to being a Tuesday night and business was pretty light or we had ordered our meal in the bar area and the bartender had too many folks to take care of. We hope it was an anomaly as we really like the food there. We will check it out again after the Xmas Lights Ride on Dec 15.
We’ve been coming to Asye (pronounced “Eye-Shay”) for years and it remains one of our favorite places in Frederick. I don’t know if it was the busy time of the evening, but our service was disconcertingly slow and uneven despite having an earnest experienced waitress.
Our food took way too long to come out and when it did, I had to have them reheat one of my dishes.
The restaurant is very noisy at peak times.
Try to reserve the “Ayse Room” (formally known as the “Ottoman Room” or “Nook”) if you can. It’s a tucked in area along the windows by the north entrance which offers some additional ambiance and intimacy.
We always leave Ayse Mezze feeling happy and satisfied. The prices are excellent . The location is easy to get to. The restaurant exudes class and authenticity....some how the simple elegance always makes us feel special. Although we had a 'new' server, she let us know she was new and was an excellent listener. I always say, there's nothing worse than a server who doesn't listen. When I substituted sweet potato puree for rice and they brought me rice, she noticed right away. The brussel sprouts are amazing --- even if you aren't a brussel spouts fan. I had king salmon which was very good.
Frederick has a number of decent restaurants and I would gladly add this one to the list. Food and service were good and we had a terrific bottle of wine from Israel that was very reasonably priced. Restaurant is large but we were seated in a side room which lacks some of the fun in the main dining area, but it was quiet enough for easy conversation.
This was our 6th visit in a couple of years, we drive 40 miles to get there, always worth the trip. I made reservations a week in advance, the hostess led us to a “tent” table, which was not acceptable. Too cold, there was a draft, and the party tent doesn’t have any ambiance. Great room for a spring/summer/early fall wedding reception.
We were seated in the bar. The waitress was efficient, we tried a lot of things and all were prepared well and served hot. “Cigars” are a must, as are the asparagus fries at sister restaurant Isabella’s. Hummus was terrific. There’s definitely something to satisfy many tastes in their menu.
We’ll be back!
Our visit there for the second time was with two ex co-workers and the first ex co-worker that left us recommended this place so I made the reservation using this venue again. The most recent co-worker stated when we meet again that she wanted to come back to Ayse Meze again and I agree. The workers were ALL FRIENDLY, from the door to the back. This is what is needed after a hard week of work. PLEASE KEEP UP THIS GREAT PLACE. I just LOVE IT!
This is the second time we’ve been to this restaurant and the service was very spotty server kept forgetting utensils water and we didn’t get ever get any pita bread they’re very Apologetic but it was the second time not sure if We would go back. it’s s too bad because the food is pretty tasty
We were seated right away, but have had to wait in the past. The restaurant was a bit loud but not terrible. The food was great as always. Either they need to hire more servers or need quicker service but it always takes a while to get something you requested from your server.
We have eaten at Ayse at least 6 times over the past few years. Unfortunately this last visit is likely our final visit. Over the years the quality of service has deteriorated. On our last visit we were seated in the bar (after requesting a quiet table if possible in our reservation). In the bar a waiter at another table was literally yelling questions from the table he was serving to the bartender at the bar, who was yelling answers back. Our waitress argued with us on our questions about availability of a dish and wine. I simply asked if a dish I had on a previous visit was available and she insisted it was one of multiple other dishes on the menu, which it wasn't. Then she argued about the wine.
Our meze came all at once even though we asked to have the meat dish last, the waitress said it had to come when the kitchen had it ready and that we wouldn't want it cold (duh). When we first dined at Ayse the meze would come out one or two at a time, which is a pleasant way to enjoy the meal. The food was still good, and it was not enjoyable having everything rushed. A server brought a dish to our table that we did not order and asked us if we were sure we didn't order it...yes, we were sure (was he??)....it belonged to a nearby table. The bus-staff started to take plates before we had finished them. The poor service took away enjoyment from the meal.
Food was good. Waiter was good, but took too long to bring us the bill after I asked. Other servers kept bringing us food that was not ours. Don't know if kitchen or what in there system was messed up, but it was annoying. It happened at least 5 times. Then my husband's pumpkin ravioli came, but my gyro didn't come for a long time. Then it came and they brought another pumpkin ravioli thinking it was my husbands. I am guessing he got someone else's the first time. The noise level was way too much. We had to move rooms, but it was still too loud. This is our second time there. First time we ate out on patio and that was great.
Saturday I had a special event at Ayse! Our waitress (Chloe) was phenomenal and made sure everything was taken care of. I reserved a specific table, and when we walked in everything was already set-up and ready for us. The chef also sent out a special dessert, and wrote a congratulatory message to us. Everyone in our group was so impressed with the food and service.
Our server made excellent suggestions. Lots of vegetarian options and cautions about things made with chicken stock was really helpful. Everything was fresh and delicious. Drinks are nice and ample size. Some shared options may mean only one bite per person - so be sure to ask.
WOW. This place was phenomenal. Our Waitress, Sage, was kind and quick to offer helpful suggestions. She was engaging, asking us questions about our taste preferences when we seemed overwhelmed by the menu and offered personal insight regarding the menu where appropriate.
We had the Brussels sprouts (I want to go swimming in a pool filled with this dish), zucchini fritters, seasoned beef flatbread, sausage with peppers/onions, Dolmades, and of course their pita bread with olive oil. Every one of these dishes had us doing the happy dance as we chewed.
I was legitimately sad that I was too full to order anything else.
We also ordered their Raki black, an Anise Liqueur served with Ice and Water for you to dilute to your preference at the table. Went extremely well with the food and was pretty smooth.
Overall, this was a fantastic experience, with amazing food at a decent price. For me, the environment was more casual in the bar area, and more up my alley honestly. They also have a quieter dining area as well as a garden area to enjoy your meal. Obviously a matter of preference, but it was great that they can cater to all these preferences without taking anything away from the experience.
LOVED IT. Hopefully you get Sage, she was amazing and made our experience THAT much better.
We were invited by our friends. Our friends frequent this restaurant a lot. We don't live in the area, so this was a treat. We had fun tasting the variety of food. Our husbands enjoyed the beer. We enjoyed the ambiance and the service was great. We had wonderful waiter that made sure our orders were correct and the bill did not get mixed up. It was a nice place to eat.
