Axia Taverna Ratings and Reviews
Our meal at Axia Taverna was absolutely outstanding. We started with the Greek Salad, had a Monk fish and parpadella, with brown butter sauce entree and added the Brussels sprouts as a side. Each dish was delicious, with delicate sauces which enhanced, and did not overpower the flavors of the vegetables and fish. The server helped us select a perfectly paired wine and the portions were more than filling. We were so impressed with our experience that we plan on bringing out of town guests to the restaurant in the near future. An excellent meal and we wholeheartedly recommend Axia Taverna.
Fabulous dinner prior to a show at Bergen PAC. The presentations are quite special. I enjoyed the olive crusted salmon with spinach rice and would order it again. The b-ouzo lava cake was light; a chocolate -lover would want a richer, denser cake. So order a Greek dessert and be happy!
The food is very good. Definitely one of the top restaurants in the area. Accoustics can be very problematic in certain sections of the restaurant.
While not unfriendly, my main criticism is that I have probably been at the restaurant 6 to 10 times a year each year over the last several years. Often bringing people with me in addition to my wife and other family members. I say hello to the host or maître de when I walk in and they respond. However, no one has ever said welcome back, nice to see you or referred to me by name. Similarly, no one has ever offered a drink or a dessert, etc. To me, it is important to feel welcome and comfortable when dining out. I think the restaurant misses opportunities in that regard and makes the experience less than it could and should easily be based on the quality of the food.
LOVED this place- wasn't sure what to expect as we don't live in the area, but so glad we took the chance! They were so accommodating and let us sit at the upstairs bar, great service, accommodated a food allergy and the food and specialty drinks were delicious, the space was beautiful and chic. It's a gem for sure!
The food is almost always great. The restaurant is vibrant and full of energy, always making for a fun night out. However, this time, the service was really slow. Our food took forever to come out and the server was extremely slow to clear dishes from the main course.
We both enjoyed a delicious meal of Dover sole at Axia. The entree came with a side of mussels, shrimp and butternut squash - it was a very innovative mixture and the flavors blended beautifully. A great bottle of Greek wine was recommended and it was spectacular. We also liked the desserts - an apple bread pudding and a poached pear. Axia stands out as a high-quality Greek restaurant.
Axia is a New York style restaurant, trendy in a classical way, bright, airy, modern. The cooking is reliably excellent with a Greek flair, delicious, handsomely produced. Frequently, I order whole fish which is always fresh and beautifully prepared. Classical Greek deserts top off a dinner filled with various mouth-watering flavors. A substantial wine list is available.
Upscale Greek cuisine beyond compare. A gem of a restaurant in the neighborhood. Extensive menu with expertly prepared entrees from Greek favorites and beyond. We ordered a range of these entrees from poultry, beef and seafood . Stuffed quail was such a pleasant surprise, skillfully prepared and a treat for the palate. My husband had the succulent lamb cooked to perfection and other guest enjoyed seafood entrees of scallops, flavorful and served with yummy Brussels sprouts. Few restaurants prepare octopus so it’s beyond tender and tasty. Added on as an appetizer was the artisan grilled sausage. Don’t pass on dessert. I can’t name a restaurant that serves a fresher baklava and I have been told the ice cream- enhanced baklava is even more of a delight. Excellent wine list. The service was so attentive, with kind, caring servers pacing the meal while being present to assist with any request, frequently replenishing water and fresh bread. I hesitant to mention the one less favorable aspect: fighting for the table of one’s choice. I prefer upstairs seating. Last time I came the host asked if I requested this seating. I said no so this time I specifically made a note of it when I reserved on Open Table. So when I arrived and asked for the table upstairs and mentioned it, he said it was not possible. Meantime, I said I noted it on my Open Table reservation and he laughed and said he had no time to read those comments but if I called and requested a special table, it would be different.
It made no sense and while the restaurant was virtually empty for the two hours we were there, It was still some discomfort getting the preferred table until the owner intervened and seated us in a fabulous table. Remind that unpleasantness and it’s five stars all the way. Love Axia!!
Axia has been consistently good since it opened many years ago. The food is always prepared well and service is attentive almost always. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in the area and wants a meal above the normal in very comfortable surroundings
We have celebrated many important events at this restaurant, now live in the city and would still drive back to NJ for a great dinner there. The owner/manager, was so rude to me and my group when we asked for a better table than the upstairs, which is "Siberia" and has NO ambiance. Since I have been to the restaurant more than 70 times over the past 10+years, I thought he recognized me. But, he dissed us and ultimately got us a great table but, not without a confrontation. I must admit, I will think twice about going back there with such rudeness to a long term loyal customer.
Went to Axia to celebrate my birthday. It is a casual but attractive restaurant The food was very good & nicely presented..the appetizers were excellent. Service was attentive. I would definitely return to try additional main courses although my seafood & feta cheese in tomato sauce was good enough to order , again. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to friends.
