Daily Selection Of Whole Grilled Fish
Marinated Grilled Octopus
olive oil, lemon, peppers, onions
Excellent food and service as always!
It has beautiful Aegean island style decor, beautiful building with outdoor area and an ambiance that holds so much potential. The food however was disappointing. The appetizers were tasty (horiatiki, grilled octopus and loukaniko). The main entrees were horrible - serving bifteki in an English muffin as a hamburger (chopped meat served at medium when we asked for well done); lemon potatoes (a Greek dinner staple) that were not authentic lemon potatoes but simply roasted potatoes; a really great pork chop that was too salty and a grilled branzino that was unseasoned served with broccoli rabe that was bitter because it wasn’t boiled to get the bitterness out. The dessert was certainly not Greek. Baklava with a ton of cinnamon and hardly any walnuts that seemed like a failed attempt at a first time baker and a galaktompouriko that was dry with the semolina being heavy custard (a beginner’s fail)and no syrup….like none….the dessert is custard, phyllo and syrup. That’s it. That’s like apple pie missing the apples. I wanted to love this place and have that one Greek place that was my go to. Unfortunately it was a dub unless they get better cooks and a legitimate Greek baker which every Greek diner in NJ has. I’m so confused by this place being so pricy and so mediocre. I can’t eat ambiance.
The selection of white wine by the glass was simply not in keeping with the restaurant (especially since their main decor feature are beautiful wine rack displays. As for the food, the salads were a far cry from acceptable, Branzino was great while the Red Snapper was tough. Not a place that we would return to.
Food is tasty and of high quality….We sat outside and it was a pleasant experience. We arrived at 6:30 and our main meal was not served until 8:30 pm. No reason was given.
Food is authentic and high-quality, but uniformly overpriced, like many such places.
Would go there only if willing to “splurge”.
Good value. One could dine by ordering just a wide selection of appetizers. My partner ordered the branzino, and it was especially good.
Usually Axia is our go to place. But the red snapper was not cooked. It was inedible. And the Dover Sole was overcooked and tough. Also not deboned. For $52 you would expect a well cooked fish.
It’s great that it’s crowded and doing so well, but the service was slow.
Food was very good, but a little bit overpriced. It was very long time waiting for a service and food. Very nice outside seating with colorful paintings on a parking area.
REALLY DELICIOUS FOOD, MADE RESERVATIONS 2 DAYS BEFORE AND WAS ABLE TO RECEIVE THE ACCOMMODATIONS.
Waitress failed to tell us the specials.
We had the lamb chops and grilled chicken. Everything was great and greek style. We arrived earlier and good thing as it was getting busy by 7 pm. Service was good. The place itself is nice and many safe features including plexiglass between tables.
Always dependable. Service a little slow since place was very busy.
Great dinner and service
Dined inside in a modern attractive space. They have also converted the parking area into a very colorful dining space. I understand that they hired students to paint the asphalt which adds tremendous color and totally transformed their outdoor seating area. The food was delicious and their service was excellent.
Love this place. Consistently excellent…from the food to the service. Axis delivers a comfortable elegance that keeps me coming back
My Octopus was excellent. We had a great bottle of Greek Cabernet....very reasonably priced. The Outdoor dining area is lovely and well distanced from other tables. The waiter was very friendly and accomodating.
My husband and I enjoyed an enjoyable early Sunday dinner at this restaurant yesterday. It was our first time dining here and were extremely impressed. We ate inside in the beautiful dining room as it was just too hot to eat outside. Service was excellent! We enjoyed a reasonably price bottle of red Greek wine. There was a really nice selection of wine both buy the bottle sent by the glass. We also enjoyed the Stuffed grape leaves appetizer and our meals call today lame and roast chicken. We look forward to dining at this restaurant again and hopefully can experience the beautiful outdoor patio.
An excellent place to eat superbly and have a good time. The food, ambience and service are top of the line. Tim - the manager and wine connoisseur par excellence - makes sure it all goes smoothly and overlooks his staff with care demanding the best they can give. Great place since day one and continues to be top notch all these years. We're big fans.
Lovely setting and atmosphere. Food was spot on! Will come back again!
Orzo in a clay pot
excellent main meals
although the starters and dessert were also excellent -- the portions were smaller than at Greek restaurants in Astoria for example
Never the less Axia is highly recommended.
Have been to Axia many times and it never fails to please.
The food here is so good, the service so friendly I could come here every day. The fish is fresh, great appetizers- the special lobster salad had so much flavor. The greek salad is just perfect. The drinks are excellent and arrive quickly. Save room for the desserts. I thinks it's one of the best restaurants in NJ
Delightful dinner at their outside area. Delicious food and wine!!
The food is delicious at Axia.We enjoyed their fried cheese appetizer along with several orders of spanakopita. The roasted chicken was so delicious as was the vegetables and potatoes they served. Definitely a place to return to often!
Axia has weathered the covid-storm, and emerged with service, food, and ambiance all as wonderful as ever. And the new bar area is a stunner, with the rays of the setting sun refracting through the bottles, infusing the entire area with a welcoming glow. Once again our special go-to spot!
We purposely sat inside because of predicted heat wave for the weekend. They seated us upstairs.
Unfortunately, it was very warm. The waitress said several times she would get someone to turn on the AC. Finally he came, and then couldn’t start it. He called someone else. That man did get it to kick on but we could barely feel it.
Meanwhile, my husband’s order came out well done and had to be sent back. They redid it.
Throughout the time we were there, there was not one apology for the heat or getting the order wrong.
Service was poor. Sometimes we saw our server and sometimes we didn’t.
Excellent restaurant. Lively crowd. Kitchen a bit slow but overall great.
We had a wonderful night! The food was delicious and the ambience they have created outside is absolutely beautiful and the service was attentive without being too much.
We will make this a regular spot.
Food was wonderful and we were not rushed. We had the Horitiki and Herackles salads, appy of the pea puree, salmon dish and Chilean sea bass special. The food was so fresh! And the outdoor parking lot was painted so it was like we were in the Wizard of Oz! Well done to Tenafly HS who made that happen. #supportlocal
Was great at the bar. Nice relaxing spot.
very very noisy!!!
Excellent as always
Exquisite food in every dish. The thin, crisp fried zucchini chips serve as a great opening for the whole table of 3-4. Octopus appetizer is a tasty classic, the lamb chops perfectly cooked, and baked scallops sweet, moist, and tender. Service was impeccable even at dinner on a busy Mother’s’ Day.
Food is amazing here. Every dish was stellar.
Food service everything was wonderful. We are returning customers.
Excellent as usual
We had 12:30 lunch reservations for Friday. When we got there they were closed. I received a text confirmation only an hour before our reservation to confirm it. Don’t understand what happened but it was closed when we got there. We stopped back at 2:30 to speak to owner he had no idea they were closed at 12:30 as he had just got there and assumed they had been open. We were not the only table that showed up for lunch there were other customers who had reservations and were surprised to see it closed 🤷🏻♀️
Always reliable to have great food and great service!
We were pleasantly surprised to discover this lovely spot tucked away in the back of town. Axia is nicely decorated and maintained, rambling town-house with a cute bar area, and new outdoor dining in the former parking lot with lots of cheerful, crisp, blue and white striped umbrellas.
The quality of the food was excellent, so I give them a pass on the cuisson, because they were quite busy, and pandemic rules mean everyone has got their hands full. Plus, the service was great, they kept the drinks and bread coming, the meze dips and sides were delicious.
We had the taramosalata, the tzatziki and the eggplant dips, with warm pita slices to start, up next, sadly our two $17/ea. jumbo prawns arrived overcooked and were quite dry. For mains, my scallops were fresh but came rare and needed salt, the sea bass was also dry, but sides of roasted potatoes, spinach rice and brussels sprouts were all excellent.
Overall, I would recommend. Good white wine, friendly masked servers, and a lively ambience made this place feel really special. I am sure on a day of less perfect weather, or perhaps not a newly-busy Saturday night at rush hr, the kitchen could absolutely turn out perfect versions of the temperature-sensitive fish dishes. Can't wait to give them another try!
