AVVIO Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I went here for my birthday. It was our first visit in several years; we'd gone back when it was Papa Razzi. I had asked for a quiet corner table when I made the reservation and noted it was a birthday dinner. The hostess did not seem to read the requests and initially tried to seat us at a very small booth in the middle of the restaurant. We asked to change to a corner table and she led us to one that was more in line with what we asked for. Our server was very attentive, however, the food was just not that good. I had a fried mozzarella appetizer that I think was reheated in a microwave. One piece was hard and chewy, one was hot, and two were stone cold. The dish also lacked flavor. The bread was good, but there were only two pieces in the basket and a few bread straws. The olive oil and hummus combination that went alongside the bread also had no flavor. This was a recurring theme throughout our meal. I had the chicken marsala and again, the dish was very bland. For dessert, we had the strawberry and vanilla panna cotta and it was nothing to write home about. Lastly, I had stomach issues a few hours after coming home, but I'm not sure if it was from the food since my husband was fine. Overall, I would not be in a rush to go back. There are much better Italian restaurants throughout Rhode Island.
Always a great experience! from the service to the food, it's a 10 every time. the waitstaff remember us and are exceptionally attentive. the quality of the ingredients are reflected by the range of delicious dishes that we order. We habitually order different entrees and are always very happy with the quality.
My penne pasta, sausage and rabe dish was just too al dente for me. I should have requested softer pasta while ordering, but I didn't think of it. One friend liked the veal parm and another friend liked the pasta bolongese (this dish had much softer pasta). I tasted a bite of a meatball and found it a little dry. Server was great and tiramisu was home-made and good. It was served with some raspberry sauce which I found too tart and thought it was a strange combination. Overall, I was a little underwhelmed with the dinner. I just expected more after a friend's recommendation. However, my out-of-town friends were happy.
AVVIO was outstanding. The decor, atmosphere and aromas from the open style kitchen was perfection. The food from the antipasto, the main course to desert was over the top. Damon, our waiter was one of the best with his knowledge, patients and suggestions it was hard to beat. I am a foodie and frequent over 30 different style restaurants per year and this ranks right up at the top.
First visit to Avvio and we were all impressed by the food and atmosphere. There were some great vegetarian options - gnocchi and summer vegetable succotash were both ordered. The succotash was delicious. Lots of wines available by the glass as well. Had the chocolate mocha budino for dessert which was heavenly, and large enough to split between three people. I will be back to try the pizza from their wood-fired pizza oven!
Our food was not good. Both of us who ordered chicken in some form didn't feel well afterwards. I had the chicken sandwich but the chicken had a strange taste and the texture was that of microwaved meat, the other person had grilled chicken on her salad., it was tasteless and only grilled on one side. Two other women shared a Caesar salad that came out with too much dressing and a fig and arugula pizza that they said was pretty tasteless.
We had all been to this restaurant before and found it to have really slipped in quality of food.
The kitchen was also very slow with our order as compared to other tables around us.
Our waiter, Brian, was very nice and professional.
I generally like the Newport Group restaurants but will take this one off my list in the future.
Service was terrible-we waited 60 minutes to actually eat our dinner and it was 30 minutes before the waiter took our order. The manager walked by our table, repeatedly, and never asked if we needed anything or noted that we were still waiting for our food. I asked for a refill on my drink, which never came, until the food runner refilled it for me because the waiter was no where to be found.
I brought my two best friends to Avvio to celebrate their birthdays. Prior to our arrival I called to see if flowers and gifts could be dropped of early to be placed at the table to surprise my friends. Bobby was very accommodating and had the flowers and gifts at the table when we arrived. My friends were surprised and very touched. We had a wonderful time and the food was outstanding. We ordered desserts and they were brought to the table with candles!
We were already talking about going back again to try a different dish. I would highly recommend Avvio to my family and friends.
