Avvio embodies the essence of everyday Italian dining; a place where friends and family gather, share laughs and celebrate milestones. As always, the Newport Restaurant Group’s focus on simple ingredients are on display, sourced both locally and directly from Italy. Prepared with distinct, yet traditional cooking techniques, Avvio’s menu feature inspired Italian classic dishes along with Neapolitan pizzas and a wood-fired grill.

AVVIO Ratings and Reviews
We made a reservation and were sat immediately upon arrival. The food was very good, we delayed submitting our entrees until the appetizers arrived as we have had some recent bad experiences at other restaurants of lesser caliber. We were not pressured or rushed and our server (Jordan?) was excellent.
We frequent many of the Newport Restaurant Group establishments as we live in the Newport area and this one did not disappoint. We will return.
Went on a Saturday night and normally going anywhere at peak time on a Saturday is hectic- made reservation online walked right in and was seated immediately. My husband had Veal Milanese and it was delicious. I had a vegetable panini and it was delicious . The Parmesan fries were also very good. I had a dirty martini and the green olives were stuffed with cheese ! The service was outstanding and the manager walked around asking how everything was.
I was impressed because the restaurant was full but the service and meal were not affected. Thank You!
We were a group of five friends and it was nice that we were able to make reservations for lunch. We loved the atmosphere and everything about the restaurant. Our server, Jared, was personable, helpful with menu questions and very accommodating to requests. Avvio feels upscale but the prices are not so exorbitant that it keeps many patrons away. Bountiful menu which kept us busy trying to make a final choice!!
All in all, we had a great time and will definitely return to sample menu items that we missed. You will not be disappointed with the warm and friendly, AVVIO!
This was my first time at Avvio and I will definitely be back. They have a wide variety of GF options to accommodate my dietary restrictions. Our waiter, Justin, was very knowledge about the menu which was helpful with a table of vegans and gluten free eaters. He was extremely prompt and friendly.
My husband and I went here for my birthday. It was our first visit in several years; we'd gone back when it was Papa Razzi. I had asked for a quiet corner table when I made the reservation and noted it was a birthday dinner. The hostess did not seem to read the requests and initially tried to seat us at a very small booth in the middle of the restaurant. We asked to change to a corner table and she led us to one that was more in line with what we asked for. Our server was very attentive, however, the food was just not that good. I had a fried mozzarella appetizer that I think was reheated in a microwave. One piece was hard and chewy, one was hot, and two were stone cold. The dish also lacked flavor. The bread was good, but there were only two pieces in the basket and a few bread straws. The olive oil and hummus combination that went alongside the bread also had no flavor. This was a recurring theme throughout our meal. I had the chicken marsala and again, the dish was very bland. For dessert, we had the strawberry and vanilla panna cotta and it was nothing to write home about. Lastly, I had stomach issues a few hours after coming home, but I'm not sure if it was from the food since my husband was fine. Overall, I would not be in a rush to go back. There are much better Italian restaurants throughout Rhode Island.
Always a great experience! from the service to the food, it's a 10 every time. the waitstaff remember us and are exceptionally attentive. the quality of the ingredients are reflected by the range of delicious dishes that we order. We habitually order different entrees and are always very happy with the quality.
My penne pasta, sausage and rabe dish was just too al dente for me. I should have requested softer pasta while ordering, but I didn't think of it. One friend liked the veal parm and another friend liked the pasta bolongese (this dish had much softer pasta). I tasted a bite of a meatball and found it a little dry. Server was great and tiramisu was home-made and good. It was served with some raspberry sauce which I found too tart and thought it was a strange combination. Overall, I was a little underwhelmed with the dinner. I just expected more after a friend's recommendation. However, my out-of-town friends were happy.
AVVIO was outstanding. The decor, atmosphere and aromas from the open style kitchen was perfection. The food from the antipasto, the main course to desert was over the top. Damon, our waiter was one of the best with his knowledge, patients and suggestions it was hard to beat. I am a foodie and frequent over 30 different style restaurants per year and this ranks right up at the top.
First visit to Avvio and we were all impressed by the food and atmosphere. There were some great vegetarian options - gnocchi and summer vegetable succotash were both ordered. The succotash was delicious. Lots of wines available by the glass as well. Had the chocolate mocha budino for dessert which was heavenly, and large enough to split between three people. I will be back to try the pizza from their wood-fired pizza oven!
