This North Shore gem was recommended to me by someone who would never steer me wrong. If you love fresh, authentic, homemade Greek food, you need to eat here. EVERYTHING we tried was amazing. From the apps to entrees. The homemade Gyro will ruin you for life as you'll never be able to eat any other Gyro.
Taramosalata, Tirokafteri & Skordalia - perfection. AND they have gluten-free pita which my daughter says is amazing. Moussaka & Chicken Kabobs - fantastic. This will become one of our regular spots. Stop reading and go there!
Nice location, excellent food, outstanding service. This was a family dinner and we all enjoyed it. I am going back with friends next week to your Chicago location.
This restaurant was exceptional when it first open up. The food quality and service is horrible now. Would not recommend
Great service and food as usual, I wanted to introduce our friends
to Avli, and was not disappointed, they loved it. Staff was able to accommodate our table request and also quickly whisked away a drink that didn’t taste quite right and replaced it with an excellent Moscow mule!
The food was great. The service was excellent. We sat outside and had a very enjoyable time.
Dont miss the outstanding roasted artichokes!
So good as always. The owner/ manager is always so nice & professional as are the waiters. We love this resource kids love it & our grandchildren love it!!
I went to Avli w/a friend who's never been to this restaurant before. It's one of my favorite restaurants!! First we asked to try the soup of the day. Our waiter brought us each a cup & said if we didn't like it, we could return it. It was fabulous! Then when my friend's salad came, they brought a cheese she couldn't eat (& asked about the cheese before ordering). Suddenly, our waiter was no longer available!! We had to change my friend's salad & they took away her soup!! All worked out w/another wonderful waiter. Not the best experience for someone's first time there!!
Superb menu very tasty meal
Server rushed us
Overall, excellent food and service!
Had dinner for the first time here with my family on my birthday. The waiter could not have been nicer or more knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The outside seating is partially covered and very nice. The food was fantastic. We will definitely return.
We wanted to sit outside on their adorable patio. We called ahead and the manager was very accommodating and told us when to arrive so that tables would be available! Our server was wonderful, pointed me to a wine by the glass that was not on the menu yet, it was wonderful and perfect for the warm evening. Both of our entrees were top notch! Great experience, we will be back for sure!
We love AVLI. It seems they have changed their menu a bit, which is disappointing. We brought friends who thought that everything was wonderful, BUT...too much EVOO on all entrees. Our favorite item is the appetizer deep-fried zucchini with skordalia. The spreads are wonderful as are the entrees. Why such large potatoes??
MEDIOCRE FOOD, BAD DRINKS, BAD VALUE FOR THE MONEY
The restaurant was a bit hard to locate given that it's within a larger building. More signage would be helpful. That aside, the decor was nice, but definitely not Greek themed. Our waiter, was fantastic. He was friendly, funny and fast. My white fish was wonderful. Unfortunately, they scrimp on the sides with the main meals. Our friends who ordered the scallops basically got a pile of spaghetti in the middle with 4 scallops on the outside. Not very creative. But, the prices are very reasonable, so if you want a little more to go with your main meals, you'll need to order some additional sides. Can't say we'll run back there any time soon.
Warm, welcoming, and accommodating to our large group. We were lucky enough to be seated outside on a beautiful day.
It is a wonderful traditional Greek restaurant with a creative touch. We eat at Avli at least 6 times a year, and have done so for several years.
We have been looking for an upscale Greek restaurant in the northern suburbs since Opa in Vernon Hills closed years ago.
I think we found it tonight in Avli.
Their space in The Laundry building on Chestnut is very warm and welcoming. The staff was very good; especially Enrique, our waiter
We split a good Beet salad. We had ordered the mini rack of lamb and the Whole Fish (Bronzino Sea Bass). Enrique split the lamb for us, since the Bronzino was going to take a bit longer. We had not asked him to, but it was just right. The lamb was served with rice and broccoli. Delicious. When the Bronzino came, Enrique filleted it for us. Watch out for the little bones. Th wild greens as the side dish was a good choice
The manager spent a bit of time chatting. Avli is celebrating their tenth year (June 2009). Given the quality of the food, staff, space, and the number of diners, they will be a fixture in Winnetka for years to come
But don’t wait. Celebrate the anniversary with them.
Always delicious with good service and a great atmosphere. Perfect before theatre.
I have been there three times now for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night and the service each time was abysmal. I love the food and have kept going hoping I would have a good service experience, but sadly, that hasn’t happened.
We go here only occasionally even though it's very close to home. The food is fine, but a bit overpriced for standard Greek fare. The atmosphere is really nice and the service is good. It's a good, solid "B" restaurant.

Amazing food & great service. My favorite restaurant!
Our server was personable, attentive and professional. The food was fantastic.
Always great food, relaxing atmosphere. 6 of us all had different dishes and all were outstanding, The service was terrific. We have been there multiple times and always consistent.
They took such great care of our family on Mother’s Day! From complimentary mimosas on pristine white cover tables to delicious plates that met everyone’s palette, we really felt pampered. I highly recommend this little gem to celebrate life with friends, family and other intimate partners. Well done, Avli!!
The gyros platter was dry. Our waiter was in a rush and would take only one person’s drink order, soup order, and appetizer order each time walking away from the table.
Always consistently good with great service. Authentic Greek food and nice diversity in menu.
Overall a very good experience with very good classic Greek dishes. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a solid Greek dinner with a fun atmosphere and very helpful wait staff.
Very nice Greek restaurant. Wonderful food and service.
Waitress did not pay attention to us. A number of items were ordered and had to be requested a second time.
Our favorite restaurant. The food is excellent!
Arrogant and unfriendly hostess, sat us at a table in the pathway of all the servers. Despite other tables being available, would not re seat us. She consulted with owner or manager?, came back with the same arrogant and petulant attitude and sat us at where it met their needs.
My wife had the branzino, was good and tasty. I ordered house specialty Avli Gyros.
Was served a plate of over cooked dry and burnt meat, resembled strips of old leather.
Returned the dish, no apologies offered. The manager or perhaps owner showed up 5 minutes later when my wife was half through her dish and offered to serve me another dish quickly. Again offered no apology or regrets. I rejected his offer as she was almost done eating. For appetizers we order octopus, it wa skimpy and not cooked well, a bit rubberish. The Saganaki, a mini serving, a bit on the cold side even though it was flamed table-side.
Overall miserable and very poor dining experience. Chose not to confront the manager as I judged it would do no good I left silently, after leaving a tip for the waiters who were friendly and nice.
Food preparation not what it used to be.
Lamb over cooked.
Despite our excellent service, the meal was disappointing. Quality of the food has declined since last visit, several years ago. Lamb burger overcooked. Shrimp kabob was very dry, with miniscule pieces of red pepper and onion. The spreads were very good, though. Wine was good, too.
We have been enjoying brunch at Avli a number of times. The breakfast and brunch items are varied and well prepared. What is nice is that the full lunch menu is also available.
Taramasolata fishy, rack of lamb overcooked request medium and sent back and still overcooked. chicken shish kabob overcooked as well. Shrimp dish good.
Not our best meal after many previous visits
Very easy and enjoyable place to gather and eat.
