EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE. INVENTIVE DISHES. The flavors put together are exquisite.
We went to Aviary with another couple, and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The waiter was great, very pleasant as well as efficient. He explained a few dishes after questions from our table, helping with our decisions.
Highlights include the Silken Tofu salad, which had some interesting and delicious ingredients, and was presented beautifully. Our waiter recommended it highly, and I'm so glad he did. Also beautifully plated and tasty was the Black Cod entree, served with Manilla clams and a coconut broth. Delicious!
The space was comfortable and enjoyable, although on the noisier side. It wasn't a problem for us, but notable.
All in all, a very nice evening. We have been before, and will return.
This is a wonderful restaurant to meet with friends and share the various delicious dishes offered. The chicken skin salad, hen of the woods mushrooms preparation and braised short ribs were the big hits. However, the Japanese eggplant and octopus are also not to be missed. One of the great aspects about the Aviary is that you can actually have a lively discussion and everyone at your table can hear you. Great drinks menu also.
A gift from our kids, this was our first Aviary experience and we loved it! Excellent, personalized service. Portion sizes just right with a clear focus on subtle blends of tastes. We will definitely return!
Food was subpar, service was severely lacking, and price was outrageous for the quality and quantity. What a disappointment.
The food was very good although portions were small (for $80 I expected more). The service was excellent. The space itself is small so not very private. We enjoyed it but was too expensive overall.
New Years Eve dinner. I would have preferred ordering off the menu, as opposed to price fixe. I understand that it was probably easier for the kitchen to only have a limited menu.
New Years Eve. Amazing dinner with wine pairing. Service was excellent. Each time we eat here it is the best meal of the year.
Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, well lit, super friendly staff, and simply incredible food.
Good - pricey but worth it for happy hour. Loved the food and service but the dinner entrees are pricey. I like happy hour pricing for the basics and supplementing with a few dinner dishes
A gem among gems in Northeast Portland. There are only winners on their menu. Each menu item is handcrafted. The bar is a craft bar. Excellent drinks and a well thought out wine list. Pricing is very reasonable for the level of food, drink, and service. Parking was easy.
We enjoyed our evening. Very pleasant service, innovative food. We are not vegetarian Abd did not order it but nice to see they had a compelling vegetarian tasting menu. Happy hour snacks are tasty, also can highly recommend the rattlesnake (or some kind of serpent!) cocktail with rye and absinthe. Thanks, Aviary, we appreciate you. :)
Aviary is the most underrated restaurant in Portland. It is fantastic every time. I cannot think of another eating experience in Portland like it.
World-class dining in a casual atmosphere. We came into town on Christmas Eve and in the last hour the bistro was open the chefs and staff served us with real care and even joy! Fantastic food and service. Where we are from, this would never happen on Christmas Eve.
Food was delicious!
Main dishes are a very strange fussion of Asian and French food. Overall everything is sweet except for the dessert which is salty.
Aviary is the total package: excellent food, caring professional service, and quiet-yet-festive ambiance. Truly creative combinations that nevertheless satisfy with hearty flavors and generous portions -especially generous for a small plates menu. Though it is hard to single out a favorite dish, the octopus with ricotta pudding and bitter brocollini astounded us. The hen of the woods mushroom dish and lamb plate were also outstanding. Our vegan and Gluten-free companions could not have been happier with the silken tofu. We did not get to dessert, but the duck-liver beignets we had as appetizers made us feel like people with an "eat dessert first" policy. We'll return again and again, no doubt.
Always an excellent meal and fantastic service. Lobster Roll Wednesdays is always fun. Lobster Roll & Jo-Jo's for $20.
It was amazing!
First-class dining experience. We both had the vegetarian tasting menu. All four courses were delicious, with the Hen of the Woods mushroom dish being the standout. Nice ambiance. Attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff. Overall, an excellent and very enjoyable meal. Will definitely return!
Every bite was delicious!
Visited Aviary during their Vegetarian feast with a special tasting menu. Every course was delicious, the drink pairings were great, and service was excellent. Can't believe I hadn't come to Aviary before, but I'll absolutely return.
Great job again, been twice and both times great
Always a great meal as chef Sarah is always adding new dishes, and leaving a few favorites. The new dish we had at this visit was the Big Eye Tuna tartare, and the old favorite was the flat iron steak. Delicious.
Excellent food. Some very unusual dishes with great flavors. I highly recommend this place.
Everything was creative, thoughtful, perfectly executed, and the server was attentive and helpful. One of the best meals we’ve had in Portland. Go. Go now.
Have eaten at Aviary a number of times with my wife, large groups and friends! Aviary is always AMAZING! A real taste bud treasure with the many delicious and interesting foods prepared and offered! The cocktails and wine selection are delicious and interesting, service is always top-notch-timely & not over bearing. Food prepared by the chef and staff is delicious! Thanks, Kevin
A wonderful dining experience with very good food and very well thought out wine pairings. A top notch staff took very good care of us and provided us with great service and helped make our first visit to Portland a very pleasurable experience.
A delicious meal. We shared small plates before the entrees. My wife enjoyed the halibut and the pig ears were great. A nice environment at the restaurant. We'll be back.
Really inventive food choices and beautiful presentation. A bit loud right by the kitchen but still a memory we will cherish. Highly recommend
First time visit exceeded expectations from enticing web page, it was nice to catch glimpses of Chef Sarah at the open kitchen style. Like an aviary, the scene was calming yet exciting, with its stellar service and variety of just lovely food! My GF and I shared 6 delicious small plates, including the Wed-only lobster roll -yes you want it- plus a near perfect cocktail from their happy hour collection. If you can't decide on which dessert to order, just eye your neighbor's table and point, we were all delighted by their tasty treatment of Fall apples! We'll be back...
We recently enjoyed our anniversary dinner here. Our server was very professional, engaging, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the food- very much appreciated. Each course from our appetizers to the entrees were delicious and executed perfectly. The Duck pate toasts were unlike any we had had before, more like a fried pastry dumpling, crispy and so delicious especially paired well with the fresh herb garnish. The beef fat poached halibut was moist, flavorful accompanied by warm lentils and a silky hollandaise, this dish hit on every note. My husband had a very well prepared and deconstructed pork belly and duck style terrine that was outstanding. Our only miss was the maple panna cotta. It was more soft set in texture and tart in taste than used to for this Italian cooked cream dessert. We thought the bacon jam also overpowered it, but did like the fresh nectarines to add freshness and texture to the dish. We highly enjoyed our dinner at Aviary and appreciate the craftsmanship of the cuisine and hospitable service. We gladly recommend and will return.
Me and my partner had the vegetarian tasting menu, and it was phenomenal! Terrific value for the price point as well. Service was exceptional, and the drinks were had were amazing as well. Did not disappoint!
This was an absolute HOME RUN! Highly, highly recommended. Every dish was wonderful, service was on point, everything a pleasure. Will be back when we are next in Portland.
Sarah Pliner is always amazing !! I took my 9 year old grandson on a food adventure date, and he was so in love with the pig's ears coconut rice dish and their bahn mi burger !! Aviary never disappoints !!! Thank YOU Sarah......!!!!!!
Bread was never brought to our table and the servers were not always available when needed buuuuuuut the food was AMAZING, the staff were very charming and the atmosphere was lovely!
We think the creativity and tastiness of the food at Aviary is spectacular and one of the best in Portland.
Everything we ordered had such wonderful flavors. There was nothing that was even just okay. We will definitely be back.
Very creative menu. Fun to explore different options.
Dinner was super delectable and service outstanding
