We’re not vegetarians but we loved the vegetarian tasting menu.
Quite special. A real gem of a restaurant. Spectacular service. Can’t wait to go back.
Food was exceptional. Service was very good although we were not happy the server brought the check immediately after giving the dessert. When questioned, she said it was what management trained her to do. She did say no hurry but we found it unacceptable.
The food was good. The service was great. Good place to catch up with friends.
This was a really nice dinner for us. Excellent food and service.
Food was good but service was slow. Dessert was nothing special.
Aviary offers dishes that are both creative and flavorful.
There were no disappointments.
Same for the cocktails.
This restaurant is reminiscent of the now closed Small Wares but with better front end management.
So glad we found Aviary. Inspired menu and delicious food. Our servers were attentive, and explained all our dishes. The shrimp on toast and salmon main were perfect. The chocolate layer cake with dark cherry sauce was like Black Forest cake as ambrosia. Will definitely return!!
Went for Portland Dining Month and had an exquisite 3 course meal with very friendly service. So floored by the combination of flavors. Recommend the green bean appetizer- slightly spicy and SO delicious.
The food and service was AMAZING. Could be a bit warmer with a bit more ambiance even just candles!
The food was really good but we did Portland’s dining month and the dishes on the recommended menu didn’t pair that well together though on their own they were each very good!
Got the Portland dining month dishes. Ribs were stellar but our other dishes left me perplexed why this place is so popular.
Made reservations for Portland Dining Month. Love that there was 2 options per course. We decided to split one Portland Dining Month menu and then ordered off the happy hour menu. We chose the Oxtail cannelloni with daikon radish, rutabaga, house made xo sauce and mint. It was amazing. Lots of flavors that all worked very well together. For the second course we chose the Hoisin-glazed beef short rib with turnip cake, bacon, mustard greens and fried shallots. Again this was delicious and well balanced. Everything worked very well together. We had the Bahn Mi burger. It was a huge burger with lots of flavors the soft egg on top was a great addition. We then chose the Matcha ice cream with lemon pound cake for dessert. This was the weakest dish. Not much flavor to the mousse, I wish it had more matcha flavor and the pound cake was a little dry.
Overall, I was extremely happy with our dining experience. We sat at the counter facing the kitchen. It was fun to watch them make every dish for the restaurant. Would definitely come back!
Amazing food and creative recipes. Love it.
My spouse and I have been here a handful of times. We normally dine here for our anniversary. Our experience has always been top notch! Our palates always satisfy. We will, of course, come back in the near future.
My dad and I ate here for dining month and had a wonderful experience. The food was exceptional!
Wife's coworker recommended Aviary and we were staying just down the street. Really glad we followed through, a great dining experience. We had an enjoyable and excellent meal!1
This restaurant is always excellent. I have come to rely on it for consistently good food. The recent menu for Portland dining month was great. There were lots of choices and they were generous, not pared down versions. This was a really good deal. I appreciate that Aviary treats their customers so well. I love the space, the cocktails, and the friendly service. But ultimately, it is the food that matters and Aviary definitely delivers.
Their Portland Dining Month menu was exquisite, and we split another small plate (the tomato brûlée) which was fantastic. Good cocktails, nice wine list, and enjoyed the space. Will definitely be back to try the full menu.
Dessert wasn't their strong suite, but everything else was! Delicious cuisine that uses quality ingredients and all the servers knew exactly what was in each dish that was served. A definite recommend.
Our server was very rude, your typical Portland snob who most likely isn’t from Portland. Very unfortunate considering how delicious the food was. His exceptionally poor attitude stood out in comparison to another server who helped bring out our food last night. I dined in with my boyfriend and a two other friends for dining month, of course. Here is what baffles me....I was told that I had to choose my dessert while I placed my order for dinner and I couldn’t change my mind because the chefs needed to know now. I usually don’t waste my time with writing reviews but thought I’d share Incase anyone else appreciates good food along with great service. My friends and I all agreed that this dude was probably just having a bad night, BUT we also all agreed that your non related work “issues” should be left at the door. You don’t need to take you problems out on the guest who will be tipping you for your time man.... probably won’t be back. I can find great food and excellent service elsewhere in Portland.
We went for Portland Dining month and enjoyed all three courses. The food is beautifully plated and the oxtail cannelloni appetizer was a standout!
We were not impressed with the green tea desert, the cake was dry and the flavor combo seemed odd. Our server could have been a bit friendlier. She seemed annoyed to serve us. Overall we enjoyed the apps and cocktails but would not likely go back for dinner because it was quite expensive. Maybe happy hour.
Portland dining month menu was good, but.... My friend and I shared so we had one of everything. The shrimp toast was very good! The cannelloni was good. The beef entree was too similar in flavor to the cannelloni and the turnip brick was tasteless. Loved the cauliflower.
The dining month menu was excellent, quality of the food superb, house wineof rose and Tuscan blend were excellent as was the friendly service. Overall, a five-star experience.
The food was excellent! The service was very prompt and the waitress was very friendly! The kitchen ended up getting pretty backed up and we ended up waiting a extra long time for our main entrees but they were well worth the wait and the staff was very apologetic about it.
We had a great Portland Restaurant Month meal. Thank you!
Portland Dining Month- the shrimp toast was stellar! The matcha ice cream dessert was also particularly well composed, with candied ginger and bright citrus highlights.
A note to the quality of service: they were extremely busy but the server still found time to ask the manager to raise the light level for us. After 7 they dim the lights substantially, at least in the back seating area, and so we really appreciated getting them turned back up so we could see to eat.
Server #6 was rude, ordering felt rushed, almost like ordering at a fast food place. We had been looking forward to go to aviary for a long time and I chose to surprise my wife for our anniversary. I was shocked by the server’s attitude, but did not bring it up because I did not want to spoil the evening with my wife. He only changed his overall attitude when we told him we recognized him from a different restaurant. I don’t what the deal was maybe the influx of people with Portland dinning month makes the job more boring and repetitive, but in an industry that is ruled by customer loyalty and reputation there are no excuses for rude behavior towards customers. My reservation through opentable had special instructions because we were celebrating our 4th year wedding anniversary, but the service we received did not make us feel special. Last year we went to little bird and they gave us two glasses of free Champagne to celebrate. At the end server #6 made a huge math mistake when he closed our tab. He only charged us for 50% of the total amount of the check. I had to stand up and go talk to him about his mistake. I think that the restaurant manager and Cheff need to take this feedback to heart and talk to him. I would not want someone like this representing my brand.
The food was delicious, the service has a lot of opportunities to be improved
Even though I had reservations for five days, I was ushered into the back dining area that resembled a garage. It was cold. The bench seat was uncomfortable. Took forever for them to bring my dessert, which was not at all a complicated labor-intensive dish. Food was good though.
We chose this as one of our Portland dining month selections and it did not disappoint. The food was creative and delicious. We enjoyed all of the selections. My husband and I ordered all the choices on the set menu so we could try everything. My favorites were the shrimp toast and my chocolate cherry dessert. It was definitely a fun and tasty experience.
Server brought me the wrong beverage, plates were set down in front of the wrong person each of the three courses. I wouldn’t care about this but they didn’t ask which was whose, and paid little attention initially when we said they weren’t our dish; seemed like they were focused on the description of the dish. Those were small issues, not a big deal.
The shrimp toast was amazing, the main courses were good, and the dessert was yum - good balance of sweet and bitter.
Last, it was SUPER loud. Some of the diners (maybe alcohol-fueled) were SO loud we struggled to hear each other. I get that the preference for restaurants is all metal/high ceilings/nothing to absorb noise, but this was worse than most. Kind of a shame.
Absolutely delicious, excellent service great experience.
Great food and great experience... we had a great time!!!
I visited Aviary for Portland Dining Month and theirs was my favorite dining month offering so far, including last year when I was first introduced to PDM.
The variety of tastes and textures was exceptional. I loved the gentle crispness of the toast used for the shrimp toast and the charred cauliflower was amazing! Also loved the perfectly cooked, buttery salmon and the candied lemon with the matcha ice cream and shortbread, but overall, every dish (we tried all 6) was really special. Portions were just perfect.
So thoughtful and tasty! Also the Portland dining month is a steal!!!
We ate off the special March menu and it was excellent. 3 superbly prepared courses.
Great fine dining experience, with excellent food and terrific service. Atmosphere is well appointed. Staff were very friendly and attentive. This was my fourth visit, and I've loved each time!
It's become a tradition now to always check out Aviary for PDX Dining month because it's a guarantee that they would not disappoint! Out of the restaurants I've been able to check out for Dining Month in the past 3 years, the best value and quality were always constant here. My boyfriend and I had 1 of each course, and all were delightful.
Quiet and nice place..would recommend chrispy pig ears and shrimp toast especially. No kids menu though.. great for young couples or older couples whose kids are away..
