The restaurant setting combines urban industrial design with local art, reclaimed wood and locally crafted lighting and features a chef’s counter, 18-seat private dining area, and a seasonal patio beside their vegetable garden.
Sarah Pliner is always amazing !! I took my 9 year old grandson on a food adventure date, and he was so in love with the pig's ears coconut rice dish and their bahn mi burger !! Aviary never disappoints !!! Thank YOU Sarah......!!!!!!
Bread was never brought to our table and the servers were not always available when needed buuuuuuut the food was AMAZING, the staff were very charming and the atmosphere was lovely!
We think the creativity and tastiness of the food at Aviary is spectacular and one of the best in Portland.
Everything we ordered had such wonderful flavors. There was nothing that was even just okay. We will definitely be back.
Very creative menu. Fun to explore different options.
Dinner was super delectable and service outstanding
Lovely meal, delicious food. We shared several plates which were smallish but extremely well curated. Pricey but tasty.
My second time here in the past 5 years. I remembered it being amazing and they did not disappoint. Although it was only a Thursday night the place was completely empty which I don't totally understand but nevertheless, the food is incredible.
I would recommend just because food is different . I put 3 stars for food because liver where partially raw in my dish.It was too warm inside the restaurant .
Wonderful evening. Sat outdoors in the courtyard area and decided to do the four-course tasting menu along with a bottle of wine...it was all wonderful. Incredible flavors, beautiful presentation, attentive service. We will be back!
We love eating at Aviary. It's one of the few restaurants that I always feel has served me something really special and leaves me with great satisfaction and pleasure.
We enjoyed the vegetarian entree Hen of the Tree Mushroom and the seafood entree Charred Octopus. Both were perfectly prepared and exquisite in taste. The mushrooms were indeed the "star" of the first dish but tastily complimented by the pureed fennel, spaghetti squash and cherry ponzu. The charred octopus of the second dish was tender and perfectly charred and the accompanying broccoli rabe and ricotta pudding were flavorful without overshadowing the octopus.
Great place for a date! The food is delicious and prices very reasonable.
Food & service was great as always. I love the tempura green beans. They also make a fine old fashion.
Absolutely fantastic! So fresh! The lobster rolls are AMAZING! Highly recommend this establishment.
consistently the best restaurant in PDX, and that is saying something.
What an incredible dining experience. The staff was super helpful, nice, and knowledgeable. The food was amazing and inventive. We will definitely be back.
Food suited to our tastes and interests
Excellent Hum Bau and tempura beans appetizers Halibut and Veal Schnitzel we’re likewise outstanding main courses
Since there are so many excellent smaller plates I like if possible to go with party of 4 in order to taste several of the smaller offerings
The food was amazing lobster roll Wednesday for the win! Excellent service friendly staff. A good place for great food.
Amazing fresh food prepared in delicious and unique ways and always great new cocktails from the bar. The service is exceptional, the best I’ve ever experienced In Portland. And the prices are surprisingly reasonable.
Always inventive dishes and excellent service. Chef puts together flavors that simply sing in your mouth.
Love this place! Food was creative, unique, flavorful & amazing. All of our dishes were vegetarian. Prices were affordable & the quality of food priceless. Weather was perfect so we ate on the patio. The service was fantastic. Everyone was welcoming & knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back.
My husband and I were staying within walking distance to Aviary while visiting Portland for the first time (we are from DC). We were impressed by the creative menu. I ordered the Halibut Poached in Beef Fat - it was the best treatment of that fish I have ever had! A thick moist perfectly cooked piece of halibut with black lentils (my fave), spring onion, yuzu hollandaise and lobster jus. Amazing! It was lobster Tuesday featuring lobster rolls and other lobster inspired or enhanced dishes.
The prices were beyond casual dining but foodies on vacation or special occasions are a perfect excuse for your tastebuds to be amazed at Aviary - especially on Lobster Tuesday.
Attentive, I rushed service with knowledgeable staff. Beautiful plating presentation in addition to delicious interesting flavor combinations. Ceviche, halibut poached in beef fat and both pea + cantaloupe and beet frisée salads were outstanding. Disappointed to see octopus and veal on menu for ethical reasons.
Truly a 5star food experience. An extremely talented chef! You must eat here.
Inventive dishes. Always exciting.
Very innovative menu. Come here if you like creative food thoughtfully prepared
Absolutely delicious, incredibly culinary! We went with the tasting menu, which is all vegetarian (can be vegan by request). It turned out to be one of the best meals we've had in Portland - complex flavors, beautiful plates, super fresh vegetables. Not to mention the most affordable tasting menu we've found. And the service was wonderful! More people need to eat here. That means you need to eat here.
The food and service was on point!
Fabulous meal and drinks... wait staff extremely helpful in choosing meal options.. almost too many to choose from
Very good food and service to bring friends and family to.
They were very considerate of the disabled person in our party.
Very innovative food and presentation. Despite high level of innovation it all worked beautifully. So it appeared the chef innovated thoughtfully and with purpose, not just for the sake of innovation.
Also the music in the room was at a perfect level, not too loud but you could definitely hear it.
Whether you’re a local or just visiting PDX, yiy don’t want to miss the most interesting and thoughtfully executed menu in Oregon.
Fundraiser for Reproductive Freedom! Amazing cause and amazing food with excellent service by a very sweet and handsome server! Wins all around!
The halibut main was cooked perfectly, the Bao with foi gras was rich and delicious. Get the eggs, not matter the preparation they are always tasty. The ceviche with watermelon another great dish and the crispy Brussels sprout ‘nachos’ tasty. . Oysters plump and juicy with a watermelon granita and chocolate dessert a must.
Thoughtful flavor profiles surprises the palate and beautiful plated presentations
Excellent, inventive food. Service is wonderful. Menu is fresh and some dishes are rotating. Great place overall.
Server was very condescending and had a very strange energy... the chef made up for his lack of service on several occasions. The server didn’t know the tasting menu ingredients very well. Food was better than the service.
Totally disappointed. This was our second try at Aviary. At our first visit we had terrible service but giving them the benefit of the doubt we thought perhaps it was the result of being in the back room. Also on that visit we didn’t get to try the lobster roll so bad service or not we wanted to try it. Bad decision. The service was incredibly bad worse than the first time. We were the only folks in the main dining room and not only was our server slow and unfriendly, the chef and team were also painfully slow. This restaurant was fairly empty. One group of four outside and a small party in the back room. We were the only folks in the main dining room. I will say that the foie gras hum bao is exceptional. The ceviche was good and so was the venison & tempura green beans . Oysters were not the freshest we’ve had in the northwest but seriously all these dishes came to us so slowly it was exhausting. By the time we got our meal we were falling asleep at the table and had the to get the venison boxed up to go. The pork belly was horrendously bad. It was the texture of baby food and all fat no meat at all. Really yucky. When we brought this to our servers attention he didn’t offer an apology or even ask why we didn’t like it. We won’t ever be back to this restaurant. Portland has far too many great restaurants to waste time at this place. Go to Urdenta for exceptional food and outstanding service. Go to St Jacks for the best foie gras in Portland and helpful friendly service. Aviary needs to scale up its staff with people who actually care to make the customer feel welcome.
