While the food was tasty, the portions left something to be desired. The Garganelli with duck confit had only two small pieces of meat. We were told that the meat "flavored" the sauce and it was normal not to have meat in the sauce. Ultimately, they brought extra sauce, but way too much effort. The duck breast also seemed like a very meager portion, only 2 slices breast. We were told it was 4 oz, but I do not really believe they were correct.

My favorite restaurant never disappoints. We ordered the special pate for an app. Delicious. My wife had the steak and frites (filet) which was probably one of the best. Perfectly cooked and you could cut it with a butter knife. I had the homemade garginelli with duck ragout. Yum. Perfect portion size too. The dessert was Duo Chocolate Mousse Dome. Imagine, chocolate inside chocolate covered with chocolate and a surprise of cream filling. Not killer sweet. I'm not a wine person so I can't comment on that although they do have an expansive list. Their cocktails on the other hand are well crafted and presented. My go to place.

We were visiting friends for my wife's birthday and came to A'vert for an early dinner just for the two if us. It was a wonderful experience. The service was perfect as was the food. The menu is diverse and the wine list very approachable. Easy to see why it is so popular. Thank you for a special experience and when in the area again (we are from California) we will come back!

Enjoyed a birthday dinner here dining past 8 pm. The bar was extremely lively with even shouting going on. Dinner and service were great but it would be even better if th bar could be separated somehow.

I love the food at Avert They serve great french food. My only concern is the proximity of the bar to the seating area. There is a very lively bar and the loudness takes away from the atmosphere of a nice french restaurant.

I was skeptical at first being that I've never been to an actual French type of restaurant. Our server, Chris, was extremely attentive and helpful with wine pairings. He even gave my wife a sample wine to see if she liked it! It was our 5 year wedding anniversary and I couldn't imagine taking my wife to a better place than A'vert Brassiere!

We went for lunch. Everything they brought to the table from the initial bread to the French press coffee was first rate. The service was excellent. We were here previously and this return visit did not disappoint.

Always great food and impeccable service! The duck is always perfect! Love to sit outside, although it was too chilly this time. Tables are very close together so when you are first seated it can be a little uncomfortable/ intimidating, but you quickly find that everyone is respectfully focused on themselves, resulting in a charming type of privacy. Love love love being pampered by the experienced, professional and pleasant waitstaff, thier attentiveness is perfectly timed. Great wine, great cheeses and pate.
Always a perfect experience!

We went for a late (3pm) Easter Sunday brunch. As it’s a small restaurant, the buffet portion was set out on the bar. Our server told us he’d bring meats, etc. to the table family style. The plates of meats, potatoes & hot vegetables were on our table before we returned with our salad from the buffet. As the shrimp were “peel yourself” we had to ignore the salads to eat the rest while it was hot. Server hard to find after that. Made this reservation based on good prior experiences-will not return for a holiday meal.

Designed to replicate the true French bistro experience, A'vert offer a nice change to the typical upscale restaurant. The food and service are excellent and not pretentious, which is often challenging for an upscale French restaurant.

Great food. Wonderful service. Half price wine on Sundays. We arrived early and had a chance for a drink off the happy hour menu while we waited for the table. We did got some cold breezes from the door periodically, but they were smart enough to hang a heavy curtain in the doorway to minimize the issue. Winter in CT.

Looking forward to going back and getting other items off the menu.

The food was excellent as usual and we truly enjoyed the meal. Service was friendly and timely. The only complaint was from my wife who thought the coffee should be a little stronger. She usually loves the coffee here because it is the only place where she can get it strong enough, so she was understandably disappointed in that regard.

The food and service was excellent. Both my husband and I had duck dishes that were delicious and enjoyed our desserts and coffee. The server was helpful and prompt.

However, the three two-top tables in the corner were too close for private conversations and made it difficult to get up to use the restroom from the center table.

We will definitely go back but will request booths.

Food was excellent and service was great. However, the restaurant is very loud due to the accoustics of the room. Even without any music playing my mother and I had to raise our voices to talk to each other.

We were surprised that, at 10 AM on Sunday, the restaurant was so quiet. There were only about six of us. Perhaps dining out for brunch is not popular in CT ...?

The design and atmosphere of the interior attempts to appear French, but to anyone who has actually dined in a French bistro it appears “faux” - more stage set than authentic boite.. The panoply of metal light fixtures and fans on the ceiling in the bar section is an eyesore, but the banquets that line one side of the restaurant are inviting, and the cafe chairs feel right.

Our party of two both ordered the Chef’s Choice omelette - a perfect French-style omelette, the kind that melts in your mouth - with sautéed spinach and the addition of Gruyere at our request. It was served with Homestyle roasted potatoes - which is not French, at all. Potatoes of any kind are not served with omelettes in France! Of course, upon request, pommels frites may be ordered in any French restaurant. Most disappointing of all is the coffee. I ordered a cafe au lait, which was weak and bitter. It should be rich and full bodied, the milk creamy and foamy.

Since we ordered the same entrees and we have not yet dined at A’vert for lunch or dinner I will give them the benefit of the doubt, for now, and leave them with a better than average rating. But, please, get the coffee right!

Despite requesting our favorite table, it was not available. However, the host did a spectacular
job in making sure that our evening remained a special one. Service, as always, was terrific and the food, similarly, was outstanding. Both combine to make this one of our favorite dinner locations. I will say that with a full restaurant (we normally go there for lunch) that the noise level was difficult to carry on a conversation with the other couple at our table.

One of my favorite places for French food, ambiance, visting with friends, enjoying unusual
drinks or wine or beer. I enjoyed the beef bourgignon and my friend enjoyed the duck ragout.
We both also liked the quenelles and of course the pot au chocolat.

It was festive and fun and the food was delicious! Our server, Alex, was great! She made it a lot of fun! And she brought dessert to the table with a candle in it! We will return!

wasn't able to add a protein to the salad for dinner, although we were told we could add a protein to an entrée- when we made the reservation we said it was a birthday but no mention was made of that by server; we would not have had dessert anyway but it would have been nice to have an offer
