It was good!
As always, food and service were top notch. Beer is outstanding, usually get the Proper, but also a big fan of the Irish Red Stout "nitro". Set reservation and made a note that we needed a wheelchair accessible table. The hostess saw is coming up to the door, came out to meet us and already had an easily accessible table ready and waiting. At times, some restaurants treat the disabled as if they are a chore. We felt welcomed and eager to earn our repeat dollars. Highly recommend this place!
Love Beehive Winery Stinger Raspberry Cider... Only restaurant I know I can get it. Great food and service every time.
Service was quite good, very loud acoustics, food was pretty good but not exceptional, somewhat pricey for a gastropub. I’d recommend for small plates and drinks.
Friendly staff, good brunch menu option with mimosas or bloody Mary's. It was quick turn around on our order which was great in taste and no complaints. They can probably sit a couple of large groups (my party had 7) but I would recommend making a reservation for group over 4 or 5.
Great pub dinner and good beer selection- and portions are big so it’s a good value
It was fine, uncomfortable seats.
Excellent menu with interesting food preparations
Great brew pub
We all enjoyed our food
Greaat chocolate and ice cream shop next door
Get the burger, it's the best! (& surprisingly affordable) Also, it's well worth the extra dollar to add add the egg :)
Great night. Great food. Great drinks. Great service.
Generally pleased when we eat here but tonight was extremely slow and waitress did not seem to care very much.
I had the ham & cheese sandwich, and it was a pretty hefty portion-could only finish half of it. The butternut squash soup my dining companion had was also very good. Ther server was friendly and accommodating. My favorite thing about the visit, however, was the piped-in music...classic rock--loved every song...really elevated the dining experience.
Delicious food! Loved the poutine and the drink selection
The menu is the same and needs updating. Very uninspired. The service is never good....they don't even pour you a glass of water; they just leave the bottle on the table and walk away.
Enjoyable meal with great service! Had a salmon special and it was prepared perfectly. It was absolutely delicious. Service was helpful and friendly. I didn't have any of their beers, so I can't speak about those but my dinner partner enjoyed the spruce. Will be back!
I had my friends in from out of town so we all wanted to try something different. We are so glad we picked this place. The food was delicious and the patio seating was nice. Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable.
Opentable let's you book in at 8:45 or 9pm, but their kitchen closes at 9. Called ahead to see if this was an error on the website but was informed that no, they do accept reservations up until 9 even though they close at 9. I asked if I would be an inconvenience if I came in at 8:45 (my reservation time) and was reassured no. Upon arrival staff acted like it was a huge deal and terrible inconvenience. As soon as I was seated I was told I needed to order because the kitchen was closing. Food was rushed and worse than fast-food, even though the bill was over $50. I get it, I understand it's annoying when you're trying to close and a couple walks in. I've been there. That's why I called ahead and asked if it was too late. I really would have appreciated honesty over rushed, unprofessional service. Won't be back.
Great beer selection, selections of fish and chips and fish tacos where excellent. The appetizer of House Potato Chips where outstanding; Crisp and with very little salt. Yummy.
We had not been here for quite a while, and decided to try it.
The service was good, as was the food.
We were expecting something very good and were disappointed. It's ok, but only that. The service was cursory and the food was average. (Though the beet salad was very good.) Given the difficulty of negotiating the Avenues area and the slightly disappointing food and service, I'd probably not return and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
This place has really gone down hill in the 6-9 months. Helpful tip: don't fall for any special. We ordered the "Shrimp, polenta and mushroom" special that had exactly 3 shrimp and 0 mushrooms, and cost $28 (which we obviously should have asked about). Burger was dry as well. Seriously, this place used to be pretty solid but quality and product have dropped. Won't be going back.
I wanted to like this place, I really did. The location is great. The decor and ambiance is wonderful. The beer is tasty. But the food is mediocre, at best. They're trying too hard to be chic and hipster. Instead, tone it down a bit folks and focus on a simple menu with food that's well prepared. The menu is too complex and even the food that should be good was poorly prepared. The mussels were over done. The steak was chewy. All of this for an over-the-top price. Our waitress was slow with the drinks and even forgot one all together. If you're looking for a cold pint in the Avenues, I would highly recommend this place just for the location and the beer alone. But if you're going to eat, save your money and go elsewhere. My table of four was greatly disappointed.
I have dined a number of times at Avenues Proper. The food is consistently good, and the wine and beer list is not extensive but quite decent. Check out the high point beers made in house. Prices are a bit on the high side for the food but the ambience is very nice. It is next door to Hatch Family Chocolates too for dessert if you choose not to have dessert at Proper. Standouts are the veggie burger (without or with bacon) and the Pomme Frites. I also like the chicken and kale sald.
Great food and great atmosphere. The beer is also pretty good.
Our server was very nice and atmosphere was comfortable. The food was average which made it over priced.
A great spot for a casual or dress-up lunch or dinner.
Located on a street with essentially no traffic so sitting on the patio is pleasant.
Fun menu. Great beer.
This is a nice little restaurant and micro brewery pub. We don't drink so I can't comment on the beer but we do eat. The food we had was very good, no complaints from anyone. The menu was different, I had a beet salad and meatloaf sandwich. My wife had the mussels, these were very fresh which actually surprised us as this is a small restaurant in Salt Lake City. They were some of the freshest mussels that she has ever had and we have eaten in many seaside restaurants. We will definitely be going back!
Once again a great meal!
I tried the Patsbrier as recommended by the waiter. It was a great lighter beer. We had the calamari for an appetizer, romanesco was good, but the banana peppers with it was not my favorite. The black bean burger was excellent!
Good food and great location in the Aves, but there is always confusion when you arrive, even with a reservation.
We have eaten here many times and the food is always good. The service this time was poor. Felt like our server was probably not happy about working on Easter. I would still recommend this restaurant.
We're so lucky to have this joint in the Aves. Outstanding food and service. A little pricey sure but just like everything else in the Aves, and worth every penny.
Great neighborhood restaurant and beer selection! Always a good spot to grab a drink or check the seasonal menu items.
The atmosphere was quiet and the food was amazing. The service wasn’t great, but thankfully the food and drinks made up for that.
I had the veggie burger (albeit with bacon!) and it was easily the best veggie burger I have ever eaten. I am already planning a return trip.
The food was pretty good, not much different from other restaurants in Salt Lake City though. The service was not great. It took a long time for somebody to actually come greet us at the host stand. We had 3 different servers throughout our meal (not sure why that was since it definitely wasn't busy) and none of them were personable. Maybe it was just because it was a Sunday?
A pub restaurant scene. Tasty food options. I love the seasonal pickles on the appetizer. The gnocchi entree is also very good and the beer cocktails are fun. Can be a little noisy. Also can be cold if seated near the door during the winter.
Good, innovative food with excellent beer brewed in house. Comfortable, mellow and informal ambience with a great patio in season. Now all we need is for UT to allow full-strength draft beers!
Great local pub. Friendly and attentive service. Good food.
It took 25 minutes from when we were seated for someone to finally take our order even though the place was probably only 60% full. We were never asked at any time if we wanted anything more than water to drink. We were seated uncomfortable close to the parties on either side, which the waiter gave far more attention than us. We should have just sat at the bar. It took about 50 minutes from when we were seated to getting our order even though other parties arriving after us were served much quicker. The food was good, but it was not good enough to compensate for the slow service and atmosphere.
