Avenues Bistro - Brookside Ratings and Reviews
The food and service were average. Food took a long time to get. Made a reservation for 10:30. We had completed the meal and paid by noon. At 12:10 we were asked to leave because they had another reservation waiting..... there were four empty tables around us. There were only two of us and the tables around us were able to seat four people. It was embarrassing and SUPER RUDE. Don’t know if we will go back because of it. They clearly only value you as a guest as long as you haven’t paid out. Once you pay them they don’t.
Been a while since I was at Bistros. I wish there was more table seating in the backroom (like there was before the renovation). Booths are not the most comfortable and a waste a space for couple dining. Feels like the space has lost some seating area with the hew layout. However, enjoyed the food - good service.
Not happy being seated in that noisy bar when the 8 of us wanted a nice, quiet and enjoyable dinner. We were not asked about a cocktail before dinner. Went straight to what we wanted to eat until we said we wanted a bottle of wine. Food was good but waited a long time for it to come. Don’t know if we will come back since we live out south Overland Park
As is usual for this restaurant, we were seated promptly when we arrived just before our dinner reservation time. The dining room was almost full and had two large groups seated which is typical for this restaurant. However, after the server placed water on the table, we waited 15 minutes before she returned to take our drink, appetizer and entree orders. Then it was another 15 minutes before the cocktails were served. The appetizer, salad and entrees were each delivered to the table in such rapid succession that the barely empty plates from each course were only removed when the next course was delivered to the table. It was also disappointing to see that the dessert menu had several items marked through with black marker as though they were no longer on the menu, but the restaurant had not printed new menus. Lastly, it should be noted that the hostess gave us one dinner menu and one lunch menu. Our server never acknowledged any element of slow service and would not look us in the eye when we attempted to get her attention as she passed near the table.
This is the second time we've had slow and desultory service at this restaurant. I wonder if this place is now under absentee management as no manager made him/herself available in the dining room and no one seems to be able to adequately calculate a proper server to diner ratio to maintain good service.
I feel like everything about this restaurant has deterioriated. The service was horrific.... 25 minutes to receive our first glass of wine, and then she walked around the dining room trying to remember who ordered it. Never once asked if we were doing o.k. or if we wanted another drink. Food was just fair; it used to always be spectacular. I'll think twice before coming again unfortunately.
We went for dinner-great service-apps and drinks arrived timely as well as our food. Did the Bristol bites special-fish and chips/ Bistro filet-all very good. Happy hour 4-7 gives reduced prices on drinks and special plates-check web site. Filet burger is back-good ! Will return!
Typically experiences here are fail proof, however in this situation, it was not the norm. Food was very slow to get out and we ordered salads. Know those days happen but we weren't kept informed of status which would have helped set expectations. We were on a time deadline. Also, sad the quiche is off the menu. Hope it comes back on weekends at least.
I had been wanting to visit Avenue's Bistro for some time. The menu and description looking appealing. I really wanted to like it but our visit and experience was terrible.
First, I made a reservation. We arrived a few minutes ahead of schedule and then had to wait several minutes to be seated. What is the point of a reservation if I still have to wait? And the restaurant wasn't even close to full.
Then we were seated. We received water from a server and then waited, forgotten, for probably 15 minutes. When we finally asked for service, the waitress "helping" us seemed put out that she had to serve us.
We went for the Sunday brunch buffet. Several items from the buffet were almost inedible. The eggs were extremely salty. The mini-muffins looked like something bought from Costco and were stale and hard. The assorted meats and cheeses offered on the menu consisted of two meats, a summer sausage and some ham. If it had been only me, I might have thought that I was being too picky, but everyone at the table (party of five) expressed the same criticisms.
When the entrees arrived, nobody really enjoyed their orders. My side was forgotten and was delivered later, halfway through the meal. All through the meal, the only time we saw our server was when she occasionally came around to refill my son's mimosa. Again, when we saw her, she seemed like she really didn't want to be there to serve us.
When we finished, we again waited around for some time before we had to ask the manager for our bill. The manager had to then go find our server to get us our check.
Overall, our visit was greatly lacking. The food was overpriced for the value received. The buffet "offerings" were weak. The service was terrible. I am sorry to say, we will not be back.
I usually love this place, but was disappointed to learn they had run out of the filet mignon I had been waiting for all Thanksgiving day, and that we were seated right outside the kitchen and couldn't hear each other talk across the table. Ted, the server, was really racing and was very nice and efficient.
Not my best Thanksgiving, but will continue to recommend this place otherwise ... truly!
We were so disappointed with our Thanksgiving meal. The food was definitely not cooked to order and tasted horrible. The really only good part of the whole meal was the salad. I do believe our entrees came from a big box store. My dessert was frozen in the middle. Why would you open on a holiday only to serve substandard food? While we have frequented Avenue’s Bistro in the past, and love patronizing neighbor restaurants, I will not be returning.
I love Avenues' brunch and happy hour. So when I found out they were doing a Thanksgiving meal, we were excited to go with friends and indulge. However, we were really disappointed in the food and the amount of time it took to get our entrees. Our server was very friendly, and we know it was not her fault, but it took almost two hours to get our food. We drank a bottle of wine while waiting for our salads, and then asked for bread to curb the hunger. I do wish our server would have checked on us or given us an update while we were waiting. When our food did arrive, most of our dishes were cold or luke-warm. Out of hunger, we didn't complain and ate quickly. For the amount we paid between the bottles of wine and meals, I anticipated more and would probably not return on a holiday.
Arrived early for Thanksgiving reservation, asked to wait outside. Others continued to go inside wait outside and were seated. Server was nice but service was very slow. Food was flavorless and poorly served. Felt like we received left-overs from first service. Way over-priced for the experience and quality of food.
Happy hour started off several years ago as a real inexpensive and delightful experience. Management has pared down the choices so that the favorites for many have dwindled to fewer choices. Wine also was fun and now is pricier.
Sad.... the management may yet have the same success they had at Mission Farms if they keep squeezing the rock
Good food and good service. We were there close to closing time and another wait stag was noisily cleaning around our table. We politely asked for her to stop and we were greeted with a rude remark and she kept on noisily cleaning sweeping directly at outer table and food. Did not comment to a manager but should have.
Overall food was very good. Timing was not the best.
I had the Portobello Chicken and my date had the hamburger. The chicken was tender. However, the dish was swimming in butter & was bland. (an anomaly for this restaurant.) The hamburger was cook as ordered and the french fries were perfect. Crisp on the outside and soft and hot on the inside.
It was hilarious! There were three of us for Sunday "brunch". We could not believe there was an entree AND a buffet! It had to be explained to us three times! We could not have the buffet without the entree. We could not stop laughing! We went to the buffet and our entrees went straight into containers. We decided where to go in case of famine! Who eats that much??????? Our waiter started out snotty, but he improved when he realized we were going to stay and get the overwhelming amount of food. I still haven't finished the entree. The buffet was good. I have not had pasta with sprinkles though!
My wife and I had not been here for many months. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices for entrees and appetizers.
My wife had the schnitzel. Her comments on the taste were comparable to another local restaurant that specializes in schnitzel.
I had the braised pork shoulder. It was tender and flavorful. I would have liked to have had an option to order it slightly spicier.
Both of us were disappointed in the dessert menu and thus did not order dessert. I am sure the desserts were good but the selection was mostly cheesecake which neither of us really like.
I would recommend this place as a very nice date night - the food is good and the prices are great. Our server and other staff were helpful, unobtrusive, but always there when a plate needed to be taken away or a water glass refilled.
We probably wouldn't have discovered this restaurant without Opentable. The menu is relatively small but includes a nice range of options. The wine list is suitably varied and well priced. The atmosphere is comfortable and our service was excellent.
We've now placed it among our top two or three KC restaurants. We'll definitely be back!
My service was outstanding this time, which usually is not the case. I wish they played music or something because its hard to drown out other groups' conversations. The buffet is alright so I think Saturday brunch is what I will stick to from now on. $10 bottomless cocktails make up for the small number of things this restaurant lacks.
Best brunch in town but really disappointed with a very special birthday celebration for dinner. Server was very friendly but never mentioned the birthday even though stated in reservation. Service was very slow but I do not think it was the server's fault. Will return for brunch but not for dinner, and definitely will not spend a special occasion there.
