Avenues Bistro - Brookside Ratings and Reviews
Restaurant Week Dinner with friends. We had 7:00 reservation and weren't seated until 7:45, no apology. Once we were seated the waitress was very friendly. It was kind of downhill from there. She was pretty non-existent most of the meal. The food was really slow to come out. The food itself was fine, nothing memorable though. 5 of the 7 of us got the medallions/crab cake. We ordered it at a variety of doneness which was completely ignored. They were all cooked the same. Overall it was underwhelming. With so many options for RW we won't do this one again.
Overall, the meal was good. The only downside would be that some of the cocktails ordered took a long time to come. There was a time when one drink was ordered and then a couple minutes later a second was ordered. The second ordered drink arrived about 5 minutes before the first. Otherwise, it was a nice experience with good food.
Food was good but not spectacular. Went for restaurant week for dinner. Out of the wine I wanted. Waitress took a long time to come back to tell me. Didn't get my drink until entree was served. Brought out wrong entree so had to wait for it. Waitress brought wrong check for us to pay. Not a spectacular night.
Restaurant week seemed to take a negative toll on the restaurant. Arrived at 815 for an 830 reservation, sat at 925. Recieved great cocktails and prompt service from Josh at the bar while waiting. Once sat only received restaurant week menus, and asked questions regarding the regular menu which were not answered. Never received regular menus. We finally just ordered off of the restaurant week menus because that is all we still had after 20 minutes at the table. Our server Amy seemed a little overwhelmed. Crab cakes and lobster ravioli were great. Steaks not correct temp, mac was bland. I know reataurant week is tough, so we will try again at a less busy time.
Three friends and I gathered here for a birthday celebration. Everyone had a wonderful time, great food, wonderful service with the only blip, a rejection of us wanting to split a plate. The management didnt want to allow it since it was restaurant week and everything going to charity. It was handled to our satisfaction. And we were allowed plenty of time to sit and chat without feeling hurried on. This is one of my favorite local places. Being chef owned the food is always impeccable.
Went for restaurant week lunch specials. The food was decent, but missed the boat by serving the dessert in a foil container. Presentation could have been better and the servers should have a tasting of the menu before serving. Lobster ravioli was very tasty and the lobster roll was fresh and delicious, while the steak sandwich lacked luster . Definitely will return.
Our overall experience was underwhelming and a bit disappointing. We waited quite a long time at the table to be acknowledged by our server, so long that we decided to go back to the bar to get cocktails. The restaurant was full but wasn't packed. The waiter wasn't really friendly - clearly he wanted us to eat and leave. Two of us had the medallions/crab cakes and those were very good. The other two had the strip steaks which were very thin and tough - not up to expectation for Avenues. We asked for coffee with dessert and it was cold - so we had it removed from the bill and didn't drink it. Flourless chocolate cake should be rich and moist, but ours was dry.
Enjoyed the Restaurant Week special lunch menu. Had the crab cake appetizer, lobster ravioli with shrimp in a cream sauce and chocolate "mound" (banana cream over nougat center and chocolate outer covering. All courses well presented, flavorful and fresh as always. One of Kansas City's best values.
We had a 1:15pm reservation, were seated next to the door in the bar area (cold, windy day). We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. Although customers at tables near us & at the bar who were seated as much as 30 minutes after us were served their meals, we did not receive our entree until 2:20. One of the entrees was not what was ordered and we waited longer to get it. Our waitress, Allison did not check on us or offer an explanation for the delay. We were finally told that it was the Kitchen's fault, not hers. In addition, Allison told us that glasses of wine were 50% off, but our check reflected 30% off. We understand that it is Restaurant Week & Avenues was busy, but feel an hour is an unusually long wait time.
Ordered the KC strip. It was appropriately pricey but inappropriately tough. The potatoes au graten were tasty so that was good. The waitstaff were friendly enough but it took a long time for everything (order, drinks, food served, etc)
I think that the service was off because it was unusually busy but the food quality is an issue that should be addressed regardless.
We visited Avenues Bistro during restaurant week so it was busy and the menu was a very nice prefix with something for all tastes. Our server was not as attentive as I would like, brought wrong drinks but excusable, after all, they were busy. Food was good! Menu was a bit over embellished based on meal served. I ordered salmon and prawns and received average sized shrimp at best so that was disappointing. My husband ordered steak w/ lobster said it was good but I think the gem on the menu was the short ribs. My girlfriend ordered and said it was fab! I also ordered the brussel sprouts in a cream sauce with bacon, highlight of my meal....they were so very yummy. Overall I would recommend Avenues Bistro and I am looking forward to returning and trying the lobster ravioli.
Delightful evening celebrating a friend's birthday. Was very busy as it was the first Saturday of restaurant week. However, we received good service and the food was great. We usually come for brunch, but will certainly think about returning for dinner in the future.
We were a little disappointed. Our table was right next to the restrooms and every time someone opened the door we were blasted by cold air. We were seated here despite there being lots of open tables! My meal was good but my meat was probably slightly overdone , and my husbands meat was way undercooked.
