Avenues Bistro - Brookside Ratings and Reviews
Good food and good service. We were there close to closing time and another wait stag was noisily cleaning around our table. We politely asked for her to stop and we were greeted with a rude remark and she kept on noisily cleaning sweeping directly at outer table and food. Did not comment to a manager but should have.
Overall food was very good. Timing was not the best.
I had the Portobello Chicken and my date had the hamburger. The chicken was tender. However, the dish was swimming in butter & was bland. (an anomaly for this restaurant.) The hamburger was cook as ordered and the french fries were perfect. Crisp on the outside and soft and hot on the inside.
It was hilarious! There were three of us for Sunday "brunch". We could not believe there was an entree AND a buffet! It had to be explained to us three times! We could not have the buffet without the entree. We could not stop laughing! We went to the buffet and our entrees went straight into containers. We decided where to go in case of famine! Who eats that much??????? Our waiter started out snotty, but he improved when he realized we were going to stay and get the overwhelming amount of food. I still haven't finished the entree. The buffet was good. I have not had pasta with sprinkles though!
My wife and I had not been here for many months. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices for entrees and appetizers.
My wife had the schnitzel. Her comments on the taste were comparable to another local restaurant that specializes in schnitzel.
I had the braised pork shoulder. It was tender and flavorful. I would have liked to have had an option to order it slightly spicier.
Both of us were disappointed in the dessert menu and thus did not order dessert. I am sure the desserts were good but the selection was mostly cheesecake which neither of us really like.
I would recommend this place as a very nice date night - the food is good and the prices are great. Our server and other staff were helpful, unobtrusive, but always there when a plate needed to be taken away or a water glass refilled.
We probably wouldn't have discovered this restaurant without Opentable. The menu is relatively small but includes a nice range of options. The wine list is suitably varied and well priced. The atmosphere is comfortable and our service was excellent.
We've now placed it among our top two or three KC restaurants. We'll definitely be back!
My service was outstanding this time, which usually is not the case. I wish they played music or something because its hard to drown out other groups' conversations. The buffet is alright so I think Saturday brunch is what I will stick to from now on. $10 bottomless cocktails make up for the small number of things this restaurant lacks.
Best brunch in town but really disappointed with a very special birthday celebration for dinner. Server was very friendly but never mentioned the birthday even though stated in reservation. Service was very slow but I do not think it was the server's fault. Will return for brunch but not for dinner, and definitely will not spend a special occasion there.
We were a group of 8 that eats all around kc monthly and everyone enjoyed their food so that says a lot.
We all sample each other’s dishes so I tried a wide variety. The steak was delicious and tender. The balsamic dates yum yum
But the standout in my opinion (I was not alone on this ) was the lobster and shrimp escargot style. WOW!!
My only minus, and food likes are relative was that I’ve had better crab cakes . Real crab but flavor fell flat in my opinion
We’re definitely adding to our rotation to return
PS. Girls said heavy pour on the drinks 👍🏽👍🏽
We went there for a Birthday brunch,
We started with drinks of course I had to try a momosa and then a grapefruit vodka drink later, both very good.
We then went to the buffet which includes fruit, salads, cheeses, pastries and more. Included in your price you get to pick an entee from the menu.
I picked the-
CROISSANT BREAKFAST SANDWICH
Scrambled Eggs : Bacon or Sausage :
Tomato : Muenster Cheese : Dill Aioli
Mmm mmm so good! Our portions were very good I gave 1/2 to my son to take home. My son and daughter in law had the Eggs Benedict - they loved that too!
It was my son and husband's BIRTHDAY celebrations and they were so stuffed they decided on only the pastries at the buffet would do, but our waitress was so great she put birthday candles on two mini muffins and presented it to my guys! That made their and my day! That's a big thing for me for birthdays!
So thank you Avenues Bistro for a lovely and fun brunch!
Was disappointed with dinner. Our waitress was not at the top of her game. We were seated and it took forever to take our order. We ordered appetizers and share plates. It took forever for food to arrive. When it did arrive, all 4 plates came at the same time. The Bacon wrapped dates and the lobster escargot were tough as nails.
Very disappointed as I brought an out of town guest here because it was so good on our last visit.
Definitely love this place! I have had the pleasure of attending Sunday Brunch with friends and also an early Saturday morning with my seven year old son, both visits were amazing! The food is great quality any special request that you may have can be made. Great place for locals and those passing through the city.
I took my mom for her birthday dinner here (86!). I have been here a number of times. It was busy (Friday night) we were seated in the front room where it was full and exposed to the bar. Was a bit loud for easy conversation with 86 year old ears. Would have been better for us to had requested being seated in the back but alas i didn't think of it. Despite that we had a great meal with really outstanding service.
Every bit of our experience was 5 star. The food was fantastic and very creative. The Lobster and Shrimp escargot was amazing. We chose to do all small plates instead of a main meal. Perfect portions to share. This restaurant will be a regular stop when we visit Kansas City.
