Avenues Bistro offers an array of selections for every palate and features many regional European specialties. Chef/Owner Joe Birch, voted one of “America’s Top 25 New Chefs” in 2007, comes from a diverse European ancestry and has for the past 20 years traveled across and studied the cuisines of Europe. These travels & experiences, his vast culinary training, & many of his own family recipes are the inspiration behind both the concept and the creation of the dishes at Avenues.
Birch’s kitchen is led by Executive Chef Mario Galan, a rising star on the Kansas City culinary scene. In 2007 he & Birch earned Avenues “Best New Restaurant- Kansas City”.
Followed up in 2008 as being recognized by Ingrams Magazine as one of "Kansas Citys Top 3 Overall Restaurants". Selected as One of the Ten Best Restaurants in Kansas City in 2012 by USA Today.

Four of us met for dinner. Weather was terrible so it wasn’t too crowded and we got awesomely me service. Food was delicious as were our cocktails. Definitely try the bacon-wrapped dates!

We had to wait at hostess desk for 10 minutes before anyone said anything or greeted us. We had reservations , it was very unorganized. Service was adequate, That was the 4 th time we had eaten there, we tried breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch and service was subpar. Food is okay. Probably not going back for awhile. We do not really like chain resturants and love the. brookside area, will eat else where for awhile. These meals have been over the course of 5 months and no change.

We were given a table by the window. My partner got a rose. The service was exceptional. My Model T Gin Fizzes were delicious. The food selections were perfect. Thanks for being a part of our neighborhood!

Dined on Mardi Gras evening with a special three course menu, each course having two options. The gumbo first course selected was nicely seasoned, cooked with a dark roux and rice on the side. The snapper second course selected was lightly grilled, soft and flavorful. The third course was a choice of rum King cake or bread pudding (a delicious Avenues standard).

If you like New York style bistro dining, Avenues is a must try. Even if you don't, the food is worth the trip.

Went to Avenues for an early Valentine’s dinner, and it was outstanding. Very nice wine flights. Delicious shrimp escargot appetizer. Chicken scaloppine and turf & surf & surf were excellent.

Myself and two guests went for brunch on Sunday, and this was my first experiences at Avenue’s. My server Caleb was perfect, super friendly and attentive! All three of us ordered the avocado skillet, and were fairly satisfied. It’s nice to have the supplementary fruit/sweets bar to round out the entree. While I liked my dish, I wasn’t blown away with flavor or texture. It was something I couldn’t whip together at home, so just not quite worth the price tag IMHO. Also, as we were leaving a member of our party asked a man (who looked like a manager) behind the bar what kind of vodka was in her Bloody Mary. Honestly, the guy was kinda of rude and seemed unhappy to be bothered. It was a simple question, asked only because of an allergy. Would go back to try dinner!

we had a great server. He was bright , fun and funny. Knew his business. We should have sat in the back. Did not like sitting at the table that had a bench and 2 stuffed chairs. Had the feeling maybe we were being asked to sit up front to make the restaurant look busy, or to accommodate server placement. We were offered to sit in back, but did not. Will do so next time. Much nicer inn back for conversations and comfort level. As always, food excellent, we had fish tacos and salmon.

While I enjoyed the overall ambiance and quality of food at Avenue Bistro. The whole experience was ruined by the service received. Our server was a shorter male with dirty blonde hair, don't recall his name. He greeted us well, but after we ordered drinks we didn't see him for another 15 minutes (or our drinks for that matter). We were there for about 25 minutes before we were able to order food, while in the mean time attempting to order drinks again. Every time one member of my party ordered a drink it would either take an abnormally long time to arrive, be given to the wrong party member, or be totally forgotten. My own meal order was also incorrect as I ordered no eggs and was still given eggs. I understand that the restaurant was quite busy and or waiter was obviously busy as well, however in situations such as that a calm and transparent attitude is much more respected than one that is short and demeaning. The waiter referred to my friend, the guest of honor, as "sweety" (direct quote being "you will have to wait for that sweety" when she asked for a drink). Completely inappropriate! While I do hope to return to Avenue Bistro again for another try, I would much prefer a different server or trying out the bar for service. I understand that unlimited drinks may be hard to keep up with, I do not understand why the server did not ask for help from his team if he was that overworked.

We had a reservation and were basically “kicked out” because the next party that needed that table had arrived. That’s incredible rude and poor etiquette. Very disappointing. I was never told prior we’d need to leave at a specific time.

Great as always! Went to try the new wine flights. Had 3 whites from the premium flight - awesome! And shared the queso and featured banana-peanut butter mouse covered in dark chocolate. YUMMMMMMMMM!

This was our first visit to Avenues and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The food was great and the staff friendly and helpful. Our only critique was that the lighting level was a bit harsh and not as expected in a fine dining restaurant.

Seated right on time of reservations. Creme brulee French toast was delicious! The chorizo scramble was tasty. We split both portions and it was plenty. Get the bottomless drinks for brunch - you will sip that pomegranate punch very easily!

Waiter was friendly and helpful. He made sure that our endless stinks were always topped off. We went for a late brunch and they were out of 2 of the entrees. Over all it was a very good experience. We will be going back!

Went for lunch during restaurant week. Salmon bisque was outstanding so was the lobster ravioli. Jeff R was our waiter and the service was perfect. We will definitely be back.

First we went to the bar. They only had a half glass of of wine that we like. They charged us $10 for it. The beef was tender, but very small portions. The salad was the best part of the meal. The desert was the size of a silver dollar. We ate at several places during the week. This was the biggest disappointment. We won't be back.
