Really appreciated the vegetarian and vegan options. The food was delicious, and our server was very attentive. A very enjoyable meal.

Our waitress was pitiful. We ordered dinner and I asked for a beer. Five minutes passed and she finally brought the beer, plopped the bottle down on the table with no glass and no napkin. I asked for a glass and five minutes later it arrived. Interestingly, it was identical to the water glasses on our table and on the adjacent table where nobody was sitting. Part of our order was a Spinach Salad which we told the waitress we would share. We also asked that the kitchen lightly dress our salad. It arrived 10 minutes later with dressing on the side. There were no dishes brought for us to share the salad. When I asked for dishes the waitress brought us two 4 inch bread plates. There was no utensils for us to mix the dressing into the salad. When I asked for utensils I was given one teaspoon. It was laughable how poorly we were serviced. Our food arrived 30 minutes later. I should say here that we informed our waitress that we had a ballet to attend and asked if our service could be quick. My wife's vegetable risotto was fine. My grilled salmon was horrible. It was a small, poorly cooked piece of fish that frankly smelled and tasted as if it were a bad piece of fish. Our waitress was not responding to our gestures so I stood up and got the head waiter's attention. He graciously took the meal away and asked if I'd like anything else. Insofar as we had a ballet show to make and it had taken so long to get our meals already I explained that I didn't think there would be time. He suggested a bowl of soup. I agreed and he brought it to me quickly. The attentiveness of the head waiter to my problem was the only positive aspect of our time at this restaurant. I would never recommend that anybody choose to dine at Avenue One.

Nice spot pre-theatre as location is nicely situated for an easy walk to the theatres from Opera House (real close) and other venues within a block or two. Ordered and shared their tuna appetizer - perfect. We each ordered our own meal versus going for sharing smaller apps/bites. Salmon was lovely and my sister thought her lobster - seafood ravioli's were equally delicious. Area for improvement was service - a bit slow, but not enough to detract from recommendation to give it a try.

Eating in the hotel restaurant makes it feel like being on vacation.
My only complaint was the a/c making the room a bit chilly.

I cannot rave enough about Avenue One. As a surprise for my aunt my mother and I took her to Avenue One for dinner and then over to see Phantom (swoon)... the entire team on that evening were amazing. Everyone was so attentive and helpful. Maria, our hostess could not have been sweeter. She was very helpful in choosing our main courses. The manager on (who’s name I am blanking on) was AMAZING!! He put together the most LOVELY birthday tray for my aunt. It was stunning!!!! They really went above and beyond. They always do. I always recommend Avenue One for anyone going to the theatre! It’s absolutely amazing!

We went 4 of us before seeing Finding Neverland at Opera House. It's the perfect location and they will validate your parking. Other than service was a bit slow we were all pleased with our meals. The salmon was perfectly cooked, very well seasoned and moist. The salads were fresh and well made. I had the gnocchi dinner sweet potato and beets which were perfect. We were all pleased with our meals and with our server.

We hadn't been here in a few years, so we decided to go for pre-theatre dinner and were impressed with the variety of offerings, as well as the creative choices. We simply ordered an appetizer and sandwiches but the sandwiches were wonderful (Boston Club & French Onion Chicken Sandwich) - creative & delicious. The crab cakes were almost all crab & very tasty, tho small. A particularly nice option is that crab cakes are available as an add-on for the variety of salads. Great nibbles options with bar jars, local cheese, as well as the appetizers. We will be back.

We had a date-night dinner here before going to the Boston Opera House. We ordered an appetizer that never came and, despite the restaurant having less than 4 other seated parties, it took 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Our waiter never checked-in with us after our entrees were served and only reappeared once we had finished in order to clear our plates.

The ambiance was cool - would think about coming back for cocktails, but don't think I'll ever come back to eat here again.

This was a pre-theater dining occasion. Our server Juan took great care of us, making sure we stayed on schedule. The menu was diverse--something for everyone's taste. The vegetarian in our group was pleased at the variety of options, opting for the green and red flatbread. The seafood ravioli and the encrusted cod were enjoyed by the others.
The dining room is well-appointed (love the super-sized chairs) and suitably quiet for conversation.
We were bid a thank you and farewell by the hostess as we left, asking whether we had enjoyed our meals. It was lovely to be acknowledged and we felt valued as customers; would return for sure.

My wife and I go there for dinner before events at the Opera House (it's only half a block away) -- that's maybe 4 times a year. And the maîtraisse d'hotel remembered us, our seating preferences and favorite waiter. That is pretty impressive! We usually have fish and chips for $17 !! which comes with slaw and fries, but they are happy to switch either or both to some other vegetable/accompaniment. I think it is one of the best kept secrets in town -- it doesn't appear when I Google "restaurants in downtown crossing"..

Went for a Saturday evening dinner. Had a reservation and we were seated immediately - that was the last good service we had. It seemed they were extremely understaffed - dinner for 2 took 1 hr. 45 min. In addition some of the food was cold, so it clearly had been sitting a while.

Crab cakes were good but small - would have been better if not room temperature. Salmon sandwich was delicious. Unfortunately spinach salad had barely any dressing, a teaspoon of quinoa and was boring. Risotto was paste-like.

Will not be going back!

My daughter and I dined at Avenue One prior to attending a performance at the Opera House. Unfortunately, the service was quite slow and not very attentive. While bread plates were on the table, no bread was served. All food items that should have been served hot were lukewarm at best. We opted not to send the food back as the service was so slow that we didn't feel we had time for a correction despite being seated a few minutes prior to our 6:30pm reservation. As subscribers to Broadway in Boston, we are interested in finding convenient, new and interesting places to dine before the performances. Sadly, Avenue One, was a miss on all counts.

I'm going to put some of the blame on the timing: it was the Thursday before Easter/Marathon weekend and maybe the hotel had lots of extra guests ordering room service. But there were only two waiters for the whole room and both service and the kitchen were very slow. We were trying to get to a show at the Opera House, which the wait staff knew, and we barely made it in time and only because we paid the check right when our main courses arrived. The food itself was excellent with some nice imaginative choices, and the waiter was very nice (if over-busy), so we'll be back when we're not in as much of a rush.
