Avenue Italy Cucina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
Our table wasn’t ready for our 7pm reservation. Hostess informed us that the restaurant was busy, that several 2 person tables had come in before us. She offered a table in a high traffic area that was unacceptable. It was rude that we were informed that our reservation would not be honored because others had arrived before us. The implication was that we were unimportant and should be satisfied with either waiting or for a sub par table. A man intervened and we were able to be seated promptly after I informed her I felt unwelcome and we would leave. What’s the point of booking a reservation on busy night to be treated like this? Our server was excellent, the food was great but we will not be returning.
Dined here a few times before...always 5-stars. Bit pricy but always worth it for the food and ambiance. Service is usually excellent. The runners and the hostess are always polite and inviting. My wife and I dined at this loc on Valentines 2/14/18. We sat at a nice table in the back of the restaurant, near the kitchen window. The waiter (who shall remain nameless) was rude, extremely pushy and verbally short towards us and others he was serving. It was evident, as we all looked at each other in amazement. I hope this was just a “one-off” as this is a nice restaurant and would not want to see them lose customers.
The food was okay, not great. The hostess was great! Our waiter was terrible!!! Unfortunately I don't have his name. He was grumpy, forgetful, not friendly, and nowhere in site after we ordered our food. Basically, he was not there - either in person or in thought.
My friend very clearly ordered the Ave Italy Salad which he proceeded to ask if she'd like a different dressing on the side rather than the one she'd asked for because the one she wanted didn't go with beets. Problem was that she didn't order the beet salad. But because he wasn't paying attention, he wrote down the wrong salad! And, by the way, she said it wasn't really all that tasty. I had the Quattro Stagione Pizza. It was okay. If they continue to keep this waiter, they should really think about training him MUCH better!
So, the food problems weren't even the biggest problems. After we placed our order and got our meal, which was brought to us by someone other than our waiter, we didn't see our waiter again until right before we left and even then he NEVER came over to our table to see if we needed anything or to give us the check, or to explain what was going on. We had to ask the bus boys for more water as well as the check!!!
There was a problem at the restaurant while we were there - the power went out. It caused the credit card machine to stop working. Did our waiter come over and tell us this? No! And neither did any else! A while after we finished our dinner and NOBODY came to check on us or to tell us what was going on, we told the hostess we needed our check. Somebody, not our waiter, came over and explained what was going on and gave it to us. Either his name or our waiter's is Filiberto which is the name on the check.
What it has going for it is that it's a beautiful, romantic venue. And I'm sure that the majority of the wait staff are great. However, we unfortunately did not have a good experience because of our bad waiter.
We had a reservation for Saturday night for a birthday celebration. Unfortunately the restaurant also had a big party and something happened to our reservation where we ended up having to wait half an hour for our table. No one explained to us exactly what happened, but they did what they could do to get us a table as quickly as possible. It was our first time there so we didn't know how crowded the restaurant would be; we thought we would be safe with the reservation. But the food was very good and the service was fine. We will probably return but definitely not on a weekend and we will make sure to eat a little before we get there in case this happens again. It would have been nice to get an apology and explanation for what happened.
Our waiter was Freddie, whose friendliness & attention made for a wonderful evening!!!
When we arrived for our 6 p.m. reservation, the restaurant was VERY noisy, so we took a high top table right at the window away from a large, loud group. The service was excellent (Freddie!!), the food was divine, & the Italian wine was one of our favorites!!! My husband had a made to order risotto, while I had a special, the Mediterranean Sea Bass with double vegies , as I didn't want any potatoes. Our appetizer was a Caprese salad that also included eggplant. Yummy!!!!
Sax was much to loud to allow conversation
I had the special which was haddock. Perfectly cooked with tasty caper/lemon sauce. The brussels sprout appetizer was not as good.
Service was good. Our waiter anticipated requirements and refilled drinks frequently without being asked
My second time here. Food was delicious. It was New Years Eve. So they crammed as many tables as possible in the patio. It was a little tight. Only suggestion would be to have the server step aside when you are handed the ipad to pay for your meal. Feeling a little rushed when determining the tip I was going to give. Other than that a pleasant experience.
One last thing the wine per glass prices were a little on the high end.
Based on the online pictures we thought the restaurant would be more quaint and intimate but it is sprawling and feels kitsche. The food was fine but not special. This seem like a good restaurant to come with a large group and also a good family restaurant, especially if you have young children.
Came here for a wonderful dinner with friends and family. The service was great! Timely, very polite, and helpful with the menu. There is something for everyone on the menu, and everything was good (I may have tasted everyone’s dishes). Very good wine list. I wish we could’ve saved room for dessert! Next time.
steak tasted great. Salmon wasn't too good. price was extremely expensive. this wasn't trump or terranea.
the server or manager brought us bill, he already included the tip on our bill. big mistake.
not going back there again. tips are unto the customers depend on restaurant's service.
It's been two days since my wife, my son, my 85 year old Mother (it was her birthday celebration) and I so called dined at Avenue Italy. I've never written a restaurant review before, but I also have never been so disappointed in food quality, presentation, and most of all the disgusting service my family and I received. We dined at Avenue Italy on Mother's Day and found the experience and food quite good especially on a busy day like Mother's Day. That's why we wanted to come back for my mother's special birthday. However, I don't know what has happened in a few short months, but the food quality was nearly uneatable. Olive Garden is 5-star compared to what we received. We had our salads and soup served 15 minutes after ordering. We had two of our four entrees served 7 minutes ahead of the other two. The original served entrees were cold by the time the other ones were served. This is very wrong considering one of the last two entrees served was for my 85 year old mother. No apologies, no nothing. I don't know how long the head waiter has been working at this restaurant but the owner of the should be aware that his social skills, his tone and business etiquette made for a very uncomfortable evening. The topper was when it was time to pay my bill, it's done on an i-pad. I wanted to give him a 5% tip. I normally tip 18-20%. I've never tipped ZERO. He stood over my shoulder while I held the i-pad. He wanted to insure that I gave him the 15, 18, or 20% tip selections that were on the invoice. It was extremely uncomfortable. I felt that I gave him the zero tip selection he would have verbally accosted me. I hope he enjoys the 15% he stole from me. When I booked my reservation on Open Table I notified Avenue Italy in the comments section that we were celebrating my mother's 85th birthday. There was zero acknowledgment by the hostess, our waiter or anyone from their staff. It wasn't until our waiter asked if we wanted dessert that I informed him. Very awkward.
We have been to Avenue Italy a couple of times and the food has never disappointed. We went for our anniversary last week and had a great time. The food was near perfect as always. My wife had the Sea Bass special and the fish was cooked to perfection, though we both felt the sauce was a little too lemon forward. I had the Tagliatelle De La Casa and enjoyed every bite. A plus since my wife has Celiac Disease and can not have any gluten, is Avenue Italy has Gluten free Pasta and bread sticks. She has never had a reaction after eating here.
