We had special requirements for a quick meal before the theater, and they were met happily for a delicious gluten- and dairy- free dinner. Great location.

Service was slow especially considering the place was empty. Food presentation was poor. That was the saddest looking NY steak I've seen. Taste was just average.

Veggie curry was delicious. I enjoyed every bite. The kids seemed happy with their selections as well.

The menu listed is not the menu. Prices are higher and less options smaller portions. Wine list was good - service was very nice but not the experience we were expecting.

We normally use OpenTable to explore new spots and have had great success with that. Not this time! The description, menu and pics greatly oversold the restaurant. Maybe we missed it, but it wasn't obvious that this was a hotel restaurant. The food was typical hotel food...overpriced and very bland.

Avenue Grill is conveniently located in the Marriott Hotel next to National Theater. Unfortunately, that is really the only reason to eat there. The food is akin to what you would get at Denny's (and the ambiance the same, despite the picture on Open Table). Prices, though, will set you back over $100 for two (1 appetizer and 1 entree). Service is middling, but acceptable.

Dingy looking restaurant dirty carpet, terrible menu, tired looking staff. It's inside a hotel, which I guess explains why it's so bad.

We went to the Avenue Grille before attending "FunHome" at the National Theatre. We were very pleased with food, wine and excellent and attentive service. The chef even sent out a complimentary appetizer of delicious fried chicken tidbits. Would highly recommend the Avenue Grille as a convenient, pleasant and enjoyable place to dine before an evening of theater.

I can see why there were very few patrons in this restaurant. There are many restaurants in the area that are superior and charge less. Not up to the usual Marriott standards.

The service and those outside the restaurant working security were extremely rude and unacceptable. I would never recommend this to anyone. I've never left a place feeling such inconsideration and hostility in my life!!!

Convenient to the Warner Theater. It was a nice lunch after the Nutcracker on Christmas Eve. The restaurant was pretty much empty. The food was standard hotel fare, but over server was very nice. However, I will look for a local gem ( restaurant) next time I go to a show at the Warner theatre.

This has more of a hotel restaurant/bar vibe but the food and staff were great. The bathroom is also a bit of a hike.

We arrived one hour before a show. 30 min after ordering, I couldn't find our waiter to find out where our food was. Nor could I find anyone! It was a weekday at 6pm, prime dinner hour. When our food finally arrived, we had 10 minutes to eat. I asked to speak with a manager, none was sent. Food was decent, but had to eat it too fast and thus wasn't memorable. Except for the burrata appetizer. Excellent and it arrived quickly!

Wait staff split between bar and tables, thus service for tables was slow. We would not have made our show time had I not stood at the bar and helped divvy out the split checks/payments. Additionally, two ladies ordered burgers, cooked differently; the waiter did not know which was which and just handed us the plates. Never going back to this restaurant and would NOT recommend it.

We went there for a pre - show dinner. It was five of us and the restaurant wasn't crowded but the food took a long time and even when it came out not everything was hot and one person ordered her steak medium and it came out medium well but since we were pressed for time we didn't say anything. So if you are in a rush you may want to choose another restaurant.

Took about 10 minutes for the waitress who was also bar tending. After Tea came after about 20 minutes and seen another gentlemen served who came in after me I was annoyed. When I started to get up and complain, overhead waitress/bartender telling another waitress my order like someone forgot. Got food 5 minutes later. Burger was good but fries were hard an not hot. Won't come here again

Avenue Grill was chosen for pretheatre dining. We read several reviews and they seemed great, especially with 20% off for showing theatre tickets. Reviews mentioned service by the bar tender, so when we came in off the street we were not surprised that he came around from behind the bar. I said that we had a booking and he said fine and showed us to a table. We were not directed to the main restaurant, which we saw later when leaving. The food was good, the soup was delicious and spicy. I had the MD crabcakes and we also had pasta. We had mentioned that we were pre theatre when I asked how I would get my Opentable points as he had not taken my name, the bar tender said it was all taken care of. Time was getting tight as we waited for some time for dessert. The dining experience was good as I said, and I was surprised to get an email part way into the meal to say the reservation was cancelled as were were sitting there eating. In hindsight I believe that we should have been shown through from the bar to the restaurant. Although the menu was the same, the experience and the confusion might have been different. I would eat there again.

It's a bar/restaurant part of the JW hotel. Food was good, had the shrimp ravioli. Wine by the glass was a bit too warm. The service was ok, well intended waiters but felt more as bartenders helping to serve food.

A bit of a diner vibe, not reflective of what one would expect at a JW Marriott. Menu choices were limited and more towards "fun casual" than upscale dining.

While visiting Washington DC with my brother (who came from Poland), I picked this restaurant because of supposedly good hamburger place which my brother wanted to try. What a disappointment! Located at the hotel (can't recall which one, Marriot may be?), almost empty at 7:30 at night, barely few tables being served and, in spite of it, painfully slowly! But, the most unfortunate thing were the hamburgers, so dry and "tasteless" that we were tempted to complain about them bitterly and return them to the kitchen. However, our waiter was so kind that we just did not want to give him any hard time and, we tried hard to look like "happy" customers. Good thing that we had a choice and had a real nice hamburger next day in some other place (no "second chance" for Avenue Grill).

We had a wonderful dinner after attending the matinee show at the National Theater. The service was outstanding, friendly and very prompt. I had one of the best cosmopolitans ever! The menu was new and our choices were delicious - crab cakes and salmon. We were allowed to make a substitution for the salad that came with the crab cakes. We were served a variety of breads that were very tasty. We ended our meal with bread pudding and coffee. The coffee tasted as if the beans had been pressed right before brewing and served to us. No need to wait on the coffee cup to be refilled as we were given a carafe of coffee that kept the coffee very hot. The atmosphere was very quiet and not rushed. To top it of, we got a 20% discount off on our dinner for telling our waiter that we had attended the show at the National Theater.

visiting DC for Cherry Blossom Festival and not that we don't love great food...but DC is FULL of froofroo restaurants that just overdo being creative....felt like every meal we had was an episode of Chopped :) until we got to Avenue Grill....we just wanted some simple classic food...crazy us, a normal burger and they delivered. It was juicy and sloppy and perfectly what we wanted. The bar lounge area was a nice place to pop in, sit by the fire, watch the Masters tourny and grab a quick bite before hitting the museums.
We tease that of the several 5 star restaurants in DC we tried....our favorite meal was the burger (and crab/corn chowder) at Avenue Grill.

The food was fine. The server we had looked like she wandered in by mistake. She was fine except difficult to find when we wanted our bill. The food was good. It was nice to be served and get a nice burger and fries.

Leave extra time to get the bill. Don't be in a hurry.
