Avenue Grill - Denver Ratings and Reviews
The menu has changed which us time because you want the menu to stay fresh. However some of the prices really went up. One person ordered the chicken potstickers, small Avenue salad with the steak, no drink. Her meal was only ok and cost her more than mine and I ordered the roulette sirloin. The steak was done perfectly and the vegetables were also a good consistency. One person ordered the salmon and spinach salad, it was pretty and tasted very good. The other person ordered medium rare prime rib. She told the waitress to be sure it was pink. The meat was brown. She sent it back. The waitress came back and said the chef told her he did not have any rare or medium. Service was fine and the waitress did ask if we wanted dessert, coffee, or after dinner drink. She was very pleasant.
A bit disappointed with the ambiance as showed tablecloths in picture but when we got there it was just plain tables. Then we were disappointed with the wait staff...she lost our meal order and had to retake our order after we sat there about 10 minutes. She forgot to bring a 2nd ordered beer and charged us after she stated she would take it off the ticket, did not know the menu, did not offer dessert, and a manager never came to check on our table. However, the food was a wozzier....all the meat was cooked to order, the seasoning was great on the steaks and the vegetables were very very delicious. We enjoyed the cheese tray!
So sorry to see how far one of my favorite places has fallen. Carpet was not vacuumed, restroom in need of serious cleaning and no paper hung for those using it. Tables need their tablecloths back and the lights need to be turned down low for this old dame of Denver dining.
Everything was great as always! The only thing is I feel the Avenue Grill is feeling a little less “accessible” since the prices have gone up on everything. I’ve been going here for 15 years and will still continue to go but just not going to go as often because of the price. Don’t misunderstand, I regularly spend lots of money on great dining experiences I just feel they are pricing themselves a little over what they should be.
The restaurant is in a beautiful old building - worth a visit for that alone! The hostess was very accommodating when I changed the size of our group when we arrived for our reservation (my bad...) Our server was very knowledgeable regarding both the bar and the food. The food was very well prepared. We tried the tuna, pork chops, burgers, and stroganoff. The only complaint was from the tuna plate - she said it was so good that she was forced to eat it all!!!!!
The Avenue Grill is located in a very historical building, which makes the ambiance quaint and demonstrating lots of character. The restaurant was able to accommodate our group of 8 quite nicely. However, even though they were not busy, they would not take a lunch reservation earlier than 12:30. Perhaps it is a scheduling thing with the staff and kitchen. Our staff person was very good and brought out orders at the same time.
We have had lovely dinners at Avenue Grill in the past. Had not visited in last 5 years. On a recent Saturday evening there were no tablecloths, no candles, ordinary presentation of food and mis-matched flatware; plus no notice that the dinner was for my birthday. Nervous about a return visit or a recommendation.
Because of terrific past experience, this is difficult to write.
Have always enjoyed outings at Avenue Grill. Waitperson was pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. Especially enjoy sitting by the windows. Wine was house and very acceptable. The vegetables were excellent. Cooked just enough. Pleased that the mashed potatoes came with skins. Steak had very good taste but I would prefer just a bit more tender. I don't like rare so I always order medium, but sometimes that just isn't tender enough for me. However, I know I am not a steak afficionado and can be really picky. Most would have probably found it very good. Prices are always reasonable. Overall, no major complaints. I would recommend and return myself with guests.
While I couldn't stay for dinner because my date wasn't feeling well, this is a nice, quiet and cozy spot to grab dinner or drinks with your significant other, or if you just wanted a quiet evening a few blocks away from the downtown atmosphere.
I will say that I was disappointed in the deals that they offered with regards to the "Denver Dining Passbook". I would like to see more price-friendly deals with this restaurant than the only 4 options that will work with the Passbook.
Energetic atmosphere in an historic building. Good brunch options and friendly service. They were understaffed but it was New Years Day. My bottomless mimosa never saw a refill in 60 minutes but hoping slow service was due to the holiday as I enjoyed the food and setting.
Went to the Grill for New Year's Day brunch-lunch. As always the wait staff is attentive and makes us feel welcome. I was a little disappointed in the quiche of the day, the filling was dry and the crust was so thick it was very difficult to cut. Although this wasn't the best meal we've ever eaten at the Grill, we do appreciate the easy parking in their lot, the pleasant neighborhood vibe of the restaurant, and the prompt service. We sat by the window, which we prefer because the nose level can really be a problem for us in some areas of the restaurant.
We were there Christmas Eve and the place was so warm and festive. Wonderful generous martinis. Delicious tender calamari. Excellent comfort food and good portions - neither too large nor too small. Next time we'll try the desserts as well - especially the bread pudding. A very good constant crowd which is so refreshing since the restaurant is much more of a "neighborhood gem" and not a "trendy hot spot." The staff was all so welcoming and kind. We will be back!
Unfortunately the menu, as listed right here on Open Table, shows nightly specials. The Sunday one looked especially good and we made late reservations following an event. I've been here in the past (they've been around for almost 30 years) but it had been a while having moved away, ironically to the city on which it is based where I often went to the specific restaurant it is patterned after (Tadich Grill, San Francisco). We walked in, late for Denver, and found out that the specials don't exist anymore. Far too late to go anywhere else and glad that we did not: the regular menu is varied, portions are good and both the food and the service were great. Will definitely go back, as I used to, but really wish the information online was up-to-date.
I've dined at the Avenue Grill many times and their service and food quality is always good. They did remove oysters Rockefeller from the menu, but this did not keep us from having a great meal. The service is always topnotch and is equal to or greater than similar restaurants in Denver.
