I really liked the service the waitress was very nice and friendly. The angus burger was very good and plentiful. The restaurant however, seemed very slow. I think that they need to promote the restaurant and offer daily specials on the menu. This will also help to bring in more business. They need to offer discounts to the Holiday Inn hotel guests. It can help so much, try these ideas!
Amazing queso dip, awesome yucca fries, and delicious taco salad. Beans and cheese burrito was served cold with a little salad on the side. They give you chips with red and green salsas while you wait. Service was ok, she did not give us a refill on soda or offer. Very very noisy restaurant so prepare to talk loudly across the table. Overall food was great and experience was good. Would go again for Mexican food.
I went there with my mom for the Thanksgiving buffet lunch at a very reasonable price (27.5$ per person before taxes/tips). They had a variety of traditional choices, food tasted great, staff was super friendly and provided excellent service. They asked several times during our meal how we liked it and whether we needed anything. We felt taken care for. I liked the restaurant's abmience: they have many historical photos related to the US Presidents, and an exhibit of Presidential Dishes in a hall between the hotel lobby and a restaurant. We will come back! Thank you!
This place is great! We ate there three days in a row. FYI, they do NOT take reservations.
Horrible overpriced food!!! Don't eat here
We had the buffet. The waffles were good as was the omelette. We had the fruit which was fresh. The buffet had a good variety of food.
There was no signage outside building where restaurant entrance was from sidewalk/street, only tiny unmarked door outside hotel(not very accessible). Access is better through main hotel lobby however, as I discovered few days later from night auditor that they do have an accessible restroom to the right of restaurant, even though management/staff only showed me to tiny inaccessible one on other side of hotel lobby pretty far from restaurant. Waiter didn't hear or understand my order for fish after I asked him about it, he thought I only wanted appetizer. They were able to accommodate my gluten food allergies by substituting bread with lettuce. The main dish was overcooked, baked flounder was dry around edges, not as moist buttery as fresh fish should be. I used my Belly points for the free house wine which was not supposed to be billed to me; basic average American fare, little over priced for the quality, but considering the neighborhood Thomas Circle and it's high rent area, it's typical overpriced than Logan Tavern. Beacon Bar Monday nights happy hours specials are better. I had to call the main phone number which goes directly to Concierge desk who also didn't understand what I was asking for, someone to help me out of the tiny restroom. There was language barriers with service staff and concierge desk. I told him I'm not in a hotel room, I'm a restaurant patron stuck in the restroom without wheelchair access/doors, etc. They didn't register my open table points until after I called and left a few messages for the manager. Overall it was quiet, almost empty only 4-5 patrons between bar and restaurant, mostly caters to businesses lunch and conferences. Service staff were all pleasant. A tourist family from Midwest sat next to me and enjoyed late 9-10p, burgers and desert after a busy day sightseeing. They seemed pleased with the area, food, ambiance, and took my recommendations. It seemed odd staff were unaware of the bigger more accessible restroom.
The food was pretty good but the overall experience was nothing special
I had the chance to work with Emon I. he was a great server and very patient. Also Luis Arias the Manager on duty was extremely professional and kind.
Thank you and kudos!
This was my first and last time to eat at this restaurant. Let me begin by stating that there were no more than 5 or six customers. When we arrived, I stated that I had an Open Table reservation. Not one of the wait staff understood what I was talking about. I even spoke to the clerk at the front desk and she was clueless. One woman, who was part of the wait staff, told us that all the tables were open.
The so-called manager, who immediately spoke the Caucasian women, who was my mentee, was clueless about Open Table. The manager told me that she was unfamiliar with Open Table because most of their guests were there for overnight stays. The manager claimed that they rarely booked customers on Open Table.
The we ordered hamburgers, and they were awful. It took the kitchen over :25 to bring the food.
I make a lot of reservations with Open Table, but this is the worst restaurant that I have ever gone to under your recommendations.
This place is my total favorite for Sunday Brunch‼️it is a hidden gem as far as DC restaurants go as to the bang for the buck. I considerate it my happy place to take friends & family. Saturday Brunch would be a good idea too. Management please take this into consideration.
I love the staff here, they are the very best! Extremely attentive, friendly, & willing to make special accommodation when requested. Love love love this restaurant. The chef is great & I can't begin to thank the managers Marshall & Mehret. Special people all‼️💖. And last but not least the waitstaff Carlota & Lee - fantastic.
Anyone looking for a reasonably priced, delightful , unpretentious Sunday Brunch buffet with unlimited mimosas all under $30 should definitely put this place on your list to check out. I'm sharing my secret special place with you, so please put on your happy face, come hungry & enjoy.
I went there for a birthday dinner. We had happy hour at the bar. The beer didn't taste right - really watered down. The bartender even said so. He ended up changing the kegs, but something was still off. In addition, it took him a long time to do anything, even though it was not very busy.
My mom had the crab cake sand which and before she even too a bite she said it smelled fishy. It tasted horribly so she sent it back and got the pulled chicken sandwich, which she says was very good.
The service was great and the food okay. But the restaurant was so quiet. They only had three tables full in the whole place. Maybe they need to offer daily specials and offer dining specials for the guests that stay at the Holiday Inn hotel to get more business.
The food was wonderful lot off choose w reasonable price the employe professional and super nice
Service was outstanding, food was not! Unfortunately, we were in DC for thanksgiving and had no family there so we didn't have a choice but this one (right next to our hotel) for turkey dinner. Admittedly, it was the cheapest when I was looking around for thanksgiving day, but now I wish we had splurged on one of the better restaurants.
Nice Thanksgiving dinner!
I was on my own in DC for Thanksgiving and had a very nice meal at Avenue Café and Lounge. All traditions were present, service was awesome and food was very tasty!
And also price was great!
The BBQ wings were a great portion and the price was under $10 but the restaurant was so boring there were only people at two of the twenty or so tables in the whole restaurant. I really would suggest for the manager to sponsor family night or special discounts and meal specials this would attract to the Holiday Inn hotel guests and community residents and it would bring in more business. It is so needed. The wait staff is great.
Don't be fooled by the Holiday Inn. I was walking the neighborhood and stopped in for lunch because it started raining and I thought I would wait out the shower. I had the Caribbean Shrimp Salad and a baked potato. I was served quickly and the food surprisingly good. The service and food were much better than what I would have ever expected from a restaurant in a Holiday Inn.
The service was awful, waiting long periods to order drinks, waiting for our check, and once we had our check after waiting 10 minutes, we walked it up to the hostess to pay.
I had to request 4 times that my open table reservation be checked off to earn my points, and it still hasn't happened.
The food was mediocre, not bad, not worth returning for.
The family eating next to us requested a to-go container for their leftover food, when no one delivered it she put it into a cloth napkin and they left.
I had reservations to eat here again two weeks from yesterday, but I canceled that reservation prior to leaving.
I'll have to email OpenTable copy of my receipt to collect my 1,000 points.
I will not eat here again.
What a PLEASANT surprise as we've driven or walked by Avenue Cafe many times without knowing it was there. Found through Open Table, we were delighted by the service and the excellent meal.
On the lower level of the Holiday Inn, Avenue Cafe serves well prepared and presented foods that make you feel at home (especially in the middle of a busy workday).
They have a range of offerings and coordinate their service to give you a very enjoyable experience! To all the staff at Avenue Cafe...THANK YOU!
We checked in on a Tuesday afternoon and figured we would grab dinner at the hotel's restaurant to make things easier. The reviews I read were decent so we were expecting a good experience. Unfortunately, this is just another hotel restaurant. Service was polite and friendly but slow and the food was ok. We also tried it out for breakfast in the morning and found the service moderately better, although the buffet was overpriced (in our opinion). I would give the service a B because the wait staff was friendly, but the restaurant itself was understaffed. Unless you're desperate for food and don't want to venture outside the hotel, I'd try another place before going to Avenue.
I went with a very large group when we were in DC for a conference. Super accommodating with splitting our bills and taking our orders. Super sweet management and staff -- would recommend and go back!
We had made a reservation for 8 people. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty and set up for a breakfast buffet, including a steam table. When the staff finally emerged, they had no idea we were expected and started trying to move furniture around to accommodate us. I have no idea who posted all the positive reviews of this place, but it is basically a standard Holiday Inn with the decor and ambiance to match. We left and went somewhere else.
Excellent flavors, appropriate pricing, wonderful service.... I was so pleasantly shrprised with the quality of our overall experience. I definitely recommend.
Recently, I went to the Avenue cafe bar and lounge for thanksgiving. It was literally one of the best experience I have ever had with a restaurant, the service was top notch and the food was phenomenal, everything from the turkey to the slow roasted beef to even the stuffing was beyond compare. I had a great time at the restaurant, I chose to go there because my friends kept talking about the place and how the renovations were revolutionary. I went to the restaurant with sub par expectations and I left feeling warm and fuzzy, full and extremely satisfied. I would recommend this to anyone, i saw families with children, couples and even groups of friends all having a good time there. I will definitely be coming back.
The staff was absolutely fabulous. Everyone we encountered was so friendly. The food was excellent at all times. The thanksgiving buffet was great and we ate there 3 other times in addition and found each meal to be excellent. I will go back any time I return to Washington.
My extended family, including three small children, had a wonderful meal and excellent service. As is often the case with large groups, we had many, many requests and each was handled with grace and care. I was particularly appreciative of the extra attention given to ensure that one of our younger family members enjoyed the day. Thank you to everyone who worked on Thanksgiving Day. Your efforts gave my family a great memory.
Hands down the best value and service for a brunch. Took my mother there for the Mother's Day brunch. My table was ready immediately upon arrival and they even had a name tag reserving my table which made me feel special. The brunch is spectacular with fresh seafood, chicken, vegetables, fruit, and a beautiful dessert display. The waiter was very polite and very generous with the unlimited Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's. They also gave my mom a beautiful rose which was such a wonderful touch. The brunch is very inexpensive compared to other brunches in the area. The food and service are also stellar and superior compared to other more expensive brunches. My mom and I were extremely pleased with this experience and can't wait to return soon.
I went due to great ratings on opentable with their brunch, but I should have known better looking at a place with only 8 ratings. The food was a typical hotel breakfast with added carving station for mother's day. Except for their melons all their fruits were all canned fruits.
Let's just say I had a mother's day lunch with my dad and without mom or my wife, since they walked out and went somewhere else.
On a positive note, the servers and managers were kind, but I go to restaurants for food as #1 priority, so so disappointing.
I recently dined at Avenue Cafe and Lounge and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the service was five star! Thanks for a great experience.
Outstanding service and friendly staff coupled with reasonable prices is getting hard to find these days but you can find it here. The staff take pride in their work and it shows through the attentive service, friendliness and great food. The manager was visible, stopping at each table to check in with patrons. We will be back.
This is a hidden gem in prime city location. The people are wonderful here, so attentive and friendly. The staff goes beyond expectation to provide quality service. The food is delicious especially the prime rib. They also do eggs to order which is a rarity at most brunches. I want to especially commendate manager, Marshall Wickham, the man is extrodinarily pleasant and accommodating. Thank you for the extra attention to my mother, for making her feel so special.
Bottomless Mimosas and Champagne, a great selection of breakfast and lunch items, excellent fruit and dessert selection combined with attentive service made it a terrific experience. We were even seated before our entire party was present. We will definitely go back!
This Easter I went to the avenue cafe and lounge for their brunch special, it was a unexpected delight. The service was amazing, the staff were kind and helpful. The food was great, especially the prime rib. There was something that really made my day, even though the restaraunt was packed the manager, I believe his name was Marshall, was going table to table checking up on everyone (myself included) and making sure their visit went well.
Ps. The unlimited mimosas never hurt anyone :)
Went with my brother, his wife and three kids for Easter Brunch. Brunch was great and was the service. The price could not be beat and the mimosas were bottomless!
I was astounded by the buffet that this restaraunt had and was pleased by the ambiance of the restaraunt, it felt clean and wholesome and the staff were extremely pleasant, warm and welcoming. I loved the food as well, it was well flavoured and tasted delicious. However, I was surprised at how few people were actually there, a place this great should have had more customers, it certainly deserved it in my book. The unlimited mimosas really topped of the perfect buffet, I will definitely come back for the Easter brunch which I heard was equally as fantastic. I would most certainly recommend this restaurant to a friend.
This is a Holiday Inn in the heart of Washington DC. It is close to many tourist ad political sites, and very convenient. Prices are very reasonable. It's great for a family breakfast lunch or dinner and open on holidays. WE enjoyed our Breakfast very much!!
Avenue Cafe & Lounge needs help! Our waitress kept asking, again, what our order was, only to bring wrong appetizers and drinks. The sodas were FLAAATTTTTT, on the rare occasion that they were right. Not the place for a business meeting.
I went to this restaraunt for thanksgiving becuase I heard that they had a special Thanksgiving buffet, and I was ecstatic, their food was top notch and extremely plentiful. Their staff were all kind and helpful, I couldn't have asked for a better time. The atmosphere around the restaraunt was so lively and festive that the second I walked in I felt extremely happy. I was pleasantly surprised to see the director walking around and talking/welcoming all of the guests, it made me feel like the restaraunt was a home away from home. I would recommend this place for anyone, I believe I have found my new favorite place.
Felt like we were at home. Food was outstanding, Prime Rib & turkey great. Service was warm and friendly. Will definitely come back when in area.
