Nice place for a date.
The food, in general, was great. However, the pricey tuna crudo appetizer was far below par. The tuna was not as soft and melt in your mouth good as usually presented at a highly regarded restaurant. It was drowned in a soupy sauce which may have toughened the bite...not sure.
That said, every other item we chose was excellent, especially the Aventine meatball and the Burrata appetizer.
Our server was experienced and excellent.
My husband had pizza, which was done to perfection. I had chicken which was well seasoned and plated beautifully and quite delicious. Our guest had gnocchi and loved it. Our server was attentive and adorable. The only negative was the bread. It was cold and tasted stale.
I had long wanted to try Aventine in Glen Ellen and finally found a reason to stay in the area, which meant I could have dinner there. It was outstanding in every way. The food is divine. Also I tried one of their unique cocktails, which was totally worth it. I couldn’t have asked for a better meal. Will definitely go back.
Came back for a 2nd time because the Gnocchi was soooo good! Fresh, perfect bite size pillows that melt in your mouth. Lots of wonderfully full flavored items to enjoy, including the deserts. If it's warm, eat outside on the patio and enjoy a stroll along the walk way where you'll enjoy many creative sculptures.
The menu has new creative dishes and even old favorites, all with a fresh spin; there is something for everyone, even the pickiest eater. Grab a group of friends and go!
The food is excellent, but I gave it a four star because the selection is very limited for an Italian restaurant. Very good atmosphere and the very nice people.
Aventine is still defining itself here in wine country. It's got a good local vibe but also needs to appeal to tourists; the menu has shrunk recently but the selections are still cosmopolitan, with enough variety, authenticity (Italian with a twist) and originality to encourage frequent visits.
We had a lobster risotto "divine" and a spicy chicken dish followed by a truly fantastic butterscotch panna cotta. Whew.
The bar is wonderful; experienced, professional treatment of classics and the custom crafted drink. Wine list is certainly adequate, not extensive. Hope they recover from the one month wild fire evacuation. Business needs to pick up. But we need this restaurant here: it's solid, dependable and charming for a special event or just a "can't face cooking" kind of night.
We had the most amazing service but the absolute best part was the food sooooo delicious!!! We love Aventine, putting them on the 'usual' spot list!!!
Fabulous food and service. A Sonoma favorite.
Love this place. Would go here once a week if it fit in my schedule.
Amazing steaks! Great value on wines by the bottle-it was Wednesday so bottles were 1/2 price!! Lauren, our server, was the best! Knowledgeable, friendly and lots of fun!
Such a great experience! The food is fantastic and the wine is even better! If you miss this on your trip you're crazy!
Since it opened some time ago, we have been pretty steady. They have dropped lunch, dropped brunch and the quality has diminished over time. It seems as though they are in trouble and the seams are starting to show.
Outdoor dining was beautiful but the flies were horrible.
Our waiter hovered over us while we worked out splitting the bill, rather rude.
The food was average, it did not WOW us.
We went here two nights in a rowZ. Bothe nights food and service was great. Loved this place and will go back some day.
Nothing quite worked for us at Aventine. We were told only after we were seated that pizzas were not available that night. Disappointing! We ordered drinks and an appetizer, the arancini, which unfortunately arrived well before our drinks. The arancini was dry and we had to eat them accompanied only with water. The entrees were just so so--the wild boar dish had very little meat and the tube pasta dish had a
watery sauce. The service was also hit or miss. We are not returning.
It was really nice our first time. This time we were seated upstairs which was very warm with no ambience.
Delicious food, beautiful outdoor seating. Service was slow but we really didn't mind as the atmosphere was lovely.
Tofu menu item was boring and lacked any flavor. It was a huge disappointment. Texture of Tofuu was like rubber.
Hostess came around after the meal to check on us. We told her the same thing. Perhaps they will make a menu adjustment with feedback.
Several kids were loud and playin under tables. Parents were actually taking photos of kids playing in a 'high end' restaurant. Go figure! Distracting to our party of four.
Staff serving our table was excellent and professional. Even recognized our anniversary with a nice simple desert.
Oso will be the better choice next time for a dining that we were trying to achieve.
This was our second venture to Aventine and it was a little disappointing. The evening started well with the door-staff and our table was well-situated for a very hot evening. Cocktails were tasty and delivered fairly quickly. My problem was with somewhat mediocre food. While the first courses were good entries weren't great. I had the tube pasta and it was disappointing as was my neighbors lasagna. Our waiter seemed quite distracted - which made sense later in the evening, but when we started there were only two tables in the dining room, so that was surprising.
We enjoyed our previous visit so much that we will try again as it is a lovely venue - lively and interesting.
Our only wish is that the chef puts a couple of genuine vegetarian dishes on the menu.
Not A great ambience. They did not have a table ready when we arrive. We sat near the entrance and ordered a bottle of wine which then was out of stock. We then order a second bottle and that took a long time for them to fined. Sweet hostess but that's about it.
My wife an I went to Aventine on a Wednesday evening. Have to admit the appearance of the complex when pulling in was a little concerning, not quite sure what we were getting in to. But, in the end, couldn't have asked for a better evening. Had a 7:00pm reservation, place looked about 75% full, got seated immediately. The menu wasn't huge, but everything sounded great. We ended up sharing a salad, the prosciutto wrapped shrimp, and their daily special pizza - fig & goat cheese & prosciutto. Finished with their salted caramel mousse. Bottom line, food was outstanding, atmosphere relaxed, rustic and open, service very attentive. Made plans to go back later in the week!
Four of us chose Aventine as two had never been. Also I knew of their no corkage on the first bottle policy. I had been there with 3 friends 2 weeks prior and we were not charged corkage on the bottle I brought. Imagine my husband's and my astonishment when our bill arrived and we had been charged $30 corkage on our 2 bottles we had brought. We had expected it on only one. I asked the waiter and he informed us the policy had changed the previous week! No apology from anyone, and no note anywhere to this effect anywhere. I am still mad about this and will be sure to tell Santa Rosa and Sonoma friends why we will not return to Aventine. Plenty of other restaurants to choose from
The venue is inspiring especially for outdoor dining. Friendly wait staff is comfortably attentive making for outstanding service.
The server was great. The food was very good. It was very loud! It was very hard to hear the person across the table.
Went to Aventine with a couple of friends and sat out on the patio on the couch. Highly recommended!
Perfect evening for our close friends from the East Coast. Great food, good wine list, great service, picturesque setting, and a comfortable woodsy charm. We arrived half hour before our reservation to have a cocktail in the bar with our friends(great cocktails!) and didn't leave until the place closed.
Great meal great service
Great creekside dining on large deck and great friendly service. I would come again for happy hour or to eat from the appetizer menu, but for the price the entrees were not that special.
The food was excellent with service well paced. The staff was friendly and Attentive from a warm greeting and promt seating through each course through settling our check. A really nice evening.
Have dined at Aventine before but sadly they were understaffed last week - big party on the terrace kept most everyone's attention. Food was still terrific and the ambiance is hard to beat. Just wasn't the outstanding experience of prior dinners there. Will still go back when visiting the area again.
It's located in a great old Glen Ellen building, the old grist mill, so great ambience with a fun bar scene. We were upstairs so much quieter, and they do offer outdoor seating. The service was excellent. I think the hit of the night was the Burrata..fantastic. As were the Prawns Gamberini wrapped in prosciutto. My Pork Tenderloin was very good, but my wife wasn't crazy about the fish of the day, Escolar...similar to Swordfish, but not really.
Great truffle popcorn. Delicious homemade butter. Kid's pizza was very good. Vegetarian pasta was good but not exceptional. Friendly staff. $ Popular place in Glen Ellen, CA for those staying locally.
All of the appetizers were good. The pizza needs help. The dough wasn't crispy but kind of doughy/wet and the toppings were meh.
We celebrated my wife's birthday and we had a fantastic night. The server we had (Toni) was super helpful and friendly. Started with a great bottle of wine along with some truffle popcorn. The Lasagna was tremendous , came out in a cast iron skillet piping hot. Everyone had delicious meals and it was topped off with a desert with a candle on it . The prices were reasonable and the quality was superb.
Toni, our server, felt like part of the family. Lovely setting and delicious food.
Disappointing experience at Aventine. It was my nine year anniversary, and I'd mentioned that in my reservation request. Waited 25 min for a table despite having made a reservation 2 weeks in advance. Initially we were told the wait was 5 minutes but after 15 we sat in the bar and ordered a bottle of wine. The hostess was completely unapologetic and did not offer any compensation for the delay (a free drink would've been nice!). We couldn't just transfer to a table; we had to buy the bottle of wine at the bar and walk it to the table. They didn't offer an ice bucket for our wine despite it being 85 degrees outside. Our table was not at all romantic and had a view of propane tanks and an empty Zappos box. They wouldn't seat us near the creek because it was just two of us. Food was unerseasoned and blah (lasagne and the pork loin). Pick one of the other hundred places to eat in Glen Ellen and skip this one!
It was amazing. Toni the owner was our server and she was amazing.
