Avanti Italian Bistro and Bar
Third time there everything was great, however the table we sat was near an air condition and we were freezing
Nice spot for a great italian style meal with a friend or a small group. Beautiful restaurant with attentive service. Also, they have a gluten free pasta option.
The restaurant provided a good dining experience for our party. It was interesting that the last time we dined there was on a Friday night. Diners were dressed more formally. This occasion we were there on a Saturday and the dress was more casual. One challenge that Avanti has is the menu is the same as their former more informal cafe that charged about 1/3 less than the dishes here. The dishes are the same. The one outstanding note is the service. It is second to none!
Service was so terrible, I will never walk into this place again. The waiter started yelling at me and threatened violence because I asked him if I offended him because after taking our order he never came back until we needed to pay the bill.
Had high expectations after reading the O.T. reviews...DIsappointing though---Very, Very nice folks on the wait staff and hostess staff. However, considering the place as nearly empty when we were there, I thought the service very slow. The angel hair was over cooked(and yes, that is a tough pasta to get right). I hate giving even a mediocre review but it was very "meh" and I really thought it would blow me away; I wish the best for the folks there---it is certainly better than Olive Garden ! But not for me going forward;
Satisfied but not overly impressed. Service is average considering there were only 2 tables, including ours. Food is acceptable, pricing is reasonable. An older gentleman greeted us by the door when we walked in, seems to be the owner or the manage, who has no smile on his face. Only 2 tables for Saturday lunch (12 noon to 1:30pm) time is not very impressive.
We've had the pasta before, which was good, and this trip we both ordered the Branzino, which was also good, but it had a lot of bones. Probably this was normal, (although we've had Branzino many times in other restaurants that did not have this many bones), but we felt that we should have been warned. Also the sweet potato/yam mash that comes with it is kind of unusual. I liked it but partner didn't.
The bread is delicious and I had a nice glass of sangiovese, and our pre-dinner salads were good.
The decor and vibe in here is nice. Nice service. Not a destination restaurant, but a good option if you are in the area.
1st time at Avanti went for dinner before going to ‘A Noise Within’ to see a play as it is close by to the playhouse
We were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience and even though we mainly stayed with the pasta dishes they were very good
Calamari not as interesting and the Ceasar Salad had too much dressing but we could have controlled that by requesting less
Overall, very tasty food and nice ‘wait’ staff
Good service and excellent value of meals
Attentive,friendly and cozy.Highly Recommended.
The food was amazing.
The fettuccine Alfredo is a must
Our server was a great guy. Super friendly and helpful
As we walked in the door, I felt this was going to be a lovely experience. But it really didn’t turn out that way. The hostess never smiled and let us to the worst table in the room in a corner where the sun, despite the sunshades shown directly in our eyes. We asked to be moved and the only thing she offered as available to the two of us was a table by the kitchen door. There were several empty four tops. The waiter was prompt and efficient. The food was, well mediocre would be an overstatement. The Caesar salad was nothing but a heap of what appeared to be iceberg lettuce with virtually no dressing. The fish fillet had way too many bones. Very disappointing. We were very underwhelmed by the entire experience. However I would say that if you choose the right menu items, perhaps it could’ve been better as the environment was lovely.
My husband and I have enjoyed several meals at the Avanti since they opened at this location. Prior to that, we used to go to the one on Lake for pizza and for some of the pasta dishes that are still on the current menu. The chef is excellent. All of the food has been well prepared. Each time, I've tried something different and I'm always pleased. Our wine was also delicious and complemented our meal well. However, I would have prepared more plain slices of bread rather than the crackers and/or garlic rolls. We have invited
guests to eat with us on three occasions, all with positive results.
Wonderful birthday experience for my mother. Excellent service. Amazing food. Thanks for a special meal.
Being that this was my first time here, the ambiance/decor was really nice and modern for an Italian restaurant. First impression of food was ok. ‘Ok’ in a positive, I’ll try again, way. It was unfortunate that a loud party arrived mid-way of our dinner which took away from the moderate noise level. They pretty much interrupted the first time experience. The place was a bit small so a large party that can be loud will be heard and bothersome ‘if’ they are loud
The food is not as good with the price you paid. The salad came out dry & tasteless. Main course are nice but not as good as expected.
Nice atmosphere, good service, food about average and fairly priced. Worth trying if you live in the area and don't feel like driving into central Pasadena. Would give 3.5 stars.
What a wonderful dining experience. The staff is friendly, yet professional. We never felt rushed and allowed to enjoy each course. Our group dine frequently and this is the first time, we all agreed that this restaurant is worthy of bringing our own family to experience.
We have been clients since it opened
We love it
We bring family and friends
Very good food, starting with the appetizers, we had calamari, then main course pasta, being an Italian restaurant.
The service was bad, our server kept saying he doesn’t know much about wine so he could not recommend any pairings, we end up choosing an Italian alternative white wine , very good. When it was dessert time, our server, again, couldn’t tell us if any of their desserts were made in house, therefore we chose none.
Even though the place was half empty, the service was bad, luckily the food was very good.
We told management about our experience, hopefully they will do something about it. Too bad, such good food, good location, the experience was not so great due to the service offered.
I love this restaurant though I do miss the little neighborhood spot on Lake Street that was closed a short time ago. I live in NY and try to have dinner at Avanti Cafe at least once every time I am out here, which is often. I love the Angel Hair Pasta dish--can't seem to find anything like it anywhere else which is surprising since I have access to the best Italian Bistros in NY. The wine selections are also excellent, and their menu has just enough chooses for comfortable selection. Food is consistently delectable. I highly recommend this restaurant. The only thing I do not particularly enjoy is the seating at the back near the fireplace. As a single person who often dines alone I like to be in the center of things or near the window. Unfortunately the small tables are in the back.
We had a wonderful family dinner following graduation. Food is always excellent, but service was slower than normal. It was was midweek which may have made a difference in staffing?
It seemed disorganized from the time we walked in and told them we had reservations. First I checked in with the lady at the reservation area and then a little while later a man asked about my reservation. When we were finally seated, the people next to us were very loud and the two people on the bench seat were so large, they were partial on my part of the bench and I didn’t have much room. It was very uncomfortable. We had 3 different waiters come to our table at the beginning and it took a long time to get our cocktails. We weren’t sure which one was our actual waiter because one took our drink order, another told us about the specials and another took our dinner order.
The food was delicious. I had the salmon and it was out of this world. My husband had the wild mushroom rigatoni and he loved it, especially that it wasn’t drowning in a heavy cream sauce. The eggplant appetizer was delicious as well, as was the peach martini. Very pleasantly surprised and would definitely come back and recommend to friends.
strange Italian food that was mostly inedible. Pizza was good though.
Good overall experience, the staff was attentive and everyone enjoyed their food. Favorites were the butternut squash ravioli and the beef bolognese. Nice desserts, too
Food was good. However service was only average, less than expected. Perhaps because they were busy because of Mother’s Day weekend
Fabulous ! Our friends really enjoyed dinnrt
Admittedly, it had been awhile since I last visited this restaurant, having preferred the coziness of their other pizza place in Pasadena. unfortunately, even the bread was not up to snuff and my pasta was meh. Other better Italian options in town.
Consistent good food and sevice in a charming and cozy setting.
I was a bit disappointed with my meal. The eggplant parmesan was over cooked and the crust was too hard. I have had plenty of excellent dinners at Avanti before.
Avanti was very busy the evening we dined there. The service, while well intended, was not spot on. It took forever to order and receive a cocktail, though their delicious Manhattan, made with rye whiskey, was worth the wait. Before cocktails, we received an unwanted lecture about their Happy Hour and how it did not extend to us at a table, but only to those at the bar, and that even the bar Happy Hour had reached its expiration. As we did not intend ordering anything from the Happy Hour Menu, we felt quite uncomfortable hearing this unnecessary speech. The Ceasar Salads were excellent, among the best we have tasted in the Pasadena area. One of the entrees was excellent; the other was so-so. The rib eye was perfect, succulent and done to specifications. The Branzino, while tasty, was very bony, so much so that it should not have been considered a filet. The apricot bread pudding, with a sip of Sambucca, was a delicious way to end the dining experience. We would like to return for a repeat performance, perhaps a little later in the evening (after 8) when things are less hectic.
Excellent butternut squash ravioli. Like everyplace else nowadays it was a bit noisy.
This is the second time we have had dinner here. My main course was perfect! I would have given them 5 stars if the bread was as perfect. Instead the waiter brought bread that was dry and hard. I asked it to be replace and the second batch was still not to fresh. My Cesar salad was not bad but not a real Cesar.
It was a great meal in a cute restaurant. The issue I had was with the busman who returned the food (doggy bag) to the wrong people and was too rushed.
The waiter was awesome.
I discovered this place when looking for a nice place near the venue of a play were we seeing at 'A Noise Inside'.
I made a reservation via Open Table on for 6:30pm on 04/21/18. My date and arrived at 6:25. They found our reservation on their tablet and told us it would be a moment. Within 2 minutes we were led to our table. So far - awesome experience. I loved the ambiance- chandeliers, table cloths, perfect lighting. The food did not disappoint either. I had the angel hair pasta w/ shrimp & my date had the pasta with pesto. She loved it - she even shares some with me.
My only complaint was our waiter. He did not greet us, introduce himself or exchange any pleasantries. He came to our table "What can I get for you?" Gee - thanks.. .nice to meet you too. I had to ask what the specials were. He was just really 'checked out' - and didn't convey any warmth or that he cared about us as guests. He never came back to make sure everything was OK. That was very disappointing. That is not acceptable at a place like this and when paying over $20/plate.
I would go back to this place for sure - BUT I would make certain to request a different waiter. He almost ruined our evening - but I wouldn't let him. We made the bets of it. I was seated across a gorgeous woman - and we enjoyed our meal, drinks and the rest of the evening.
Came in for a quick bite before a meeting. I enjoyed a delight dinner and amazing service
Loved the ambience and food. We will be back
Great food and very nice decor. Terrible service- waiter was slow and somewhat unfriendly.
First visit. Fantastic. See you again soon.
