Avanti Italian Bistro and Bar
What a wonderful dining experience. The staff is friendly, yet professional. We never felt rushed and allowed to enjoy each course. Our group dine frequently and this is the first time, we all agreed that this restaurant is worthy of bringing our own family to experience.
We have been clients since it opened
We love it
We bring family and friends
Very good food, starting with the appetizers, we had calamari, then main course pasta, being an Italian restaurant.
The service was bad, our server kept saying he doesn’t know much about wine so he could not recommend any pairings, we end up choosing an Italian alternative white wine , very good. When it was dessert time, our server, again, couldn’t tell us if any of their desserts were made in house, therefore we chose none.
Even though the place was half empty, the service was bad, luckily the food was very good.
We told management about our experience, hopefully they will do something about it. Too bad, such good food, good location, the experience was not so great due to the service offered.
I love this restaurant though I do miss the little neighborhood spot on Lake Street that was closed a short time ago. I live in NY and try to have dinner at Avanti Cafe at least once every time I am out here, which is often. I love the Angel Hair Pasta dish--can't seem to find anything like it anywhere else which is surprising since I have access to the best Italian Bistros in NY. The wine selections are also excellent, and their menu has just enough chooses for comfortable selection. Food is consistently delectable. I highly recommend this restaurant. The only thing I do not particularly enjoy is the seating at the back near the fireplace. As a single person who often dines alone I like to be in the center of things or near the window. Unfortunately the small tables are in the back.
We had a wonderful family dinner following graduation. Food is always excellent, but service was slower than normal. It was was midweek which may have made a difference in staffing?
It seemed disorganized from the time we walked in and told them we had reservations. First I checked in with the lady at the reservation area and then a little while later a man asked about my reservation. When we were finally seated, the people next to us were very loud and the two people on the bench seat were so large, they were partial on my part of the bench and I didn’t have much room. It was very uncomfortable. We had 3 different waiters come to our table at the beginning and it took a long time to get our cocktails. We weren’t sure which one was our actual waiter because one took our drink order, another told us about the specials and another took our dinner order.
The food was delicious. I had the salmon and it was out of this world. My husband had the wild mushroom rigatoni and he loved it, especially that it wasn’t drowning in a heavy cream sauce. The eggplant appetizer was delicious as well, as was the peach martini. Very pleasantly surprised and would definitely come back and recommend to friends.
strange Italian food that was mostly inedible. Pizza was good though.
Good overall experience, the staff was attentive and everyone enjoyed their food. Favorites were the butternut squash ravioli and the beef bolognese. Nice desserts, too
Food was good. However service was only average, less than expected. Perhaps because they were busy because of Mother’s Day weekend
Fabulous ! Our friends really enjoyed dinnrt
Admittedly, it had been awhile since I last visited this restaurant, having preferred the coziness of their other pizza place in Pasadena. unfortunately, even the bread was not up to snuff and my pasta was meh. Other better Italian options in town.
Consistent good food and sevice in a charming and cozy setting.
I was a bit disappointed with my meal. The eggplant parmesan was over cooked and the crust was too hard. I have had plenty of excellent dinners at Avanti before.
Avanti was very busy the evening we dined there. The service, while well intended, was not spot on. It took forever to order and receive a cocktail, though their delicious Manhattan, made with rye whiskey, was worth the wait. Before cocktails, we received an unwanted lecture about their Happy Hour and how it did not extend to us at a table, but only to those at the bar, and that even the bar Happy Hour had reached its expiration. As we did not intend ordering anything from the Happy Hour Menu, we felt quite uncomfortable hearing this unnecessary speech. The Ceasar Salads were excellent, among the best we have tasted in the Pasadena area. One of the entrees was excellent; the other was so-so. The rib eye was perfect, succulent and done to specifications. The Branzino, while tasty, was very bony, so much so that it should not have been considered a filet. The apricot bread pudding, with a sip of Sambucca, was a delicious way to end the dining experience. We would like to return for a repeat performance, perhaps a little later in the evening (after 8) when things are less hectic.
Excellent butternut squash ravioli. Like everyplace else nowadays it was a bit noisy.
This is the second time we have had dinner here. My main course was perfect! I would have given them 5 stars if the bread was as perfect. Instead the waiter brought bread that was dry and hard. I asked it to be replace and the second batch was still not to fresh. My Cesar salad was not bad but not a real Cesar.
It was a great meal in a cute restaurant. The issue I had was with the busman who returned the food (doggy bag) to the wrong people and was too rushed.
The waiter was awesome.
I discovered this place when looking for a nice place near the venue of a play were we seeing at 'A Noise Inside'.
I made a reservation via Open Table on for 6:30pm on 04/21/18. My date and arrived at 6:25. They found our reservation on their tablet and told us it would be a moment. Within 2 minutes we were led to our table. So far - awesome experience. I loved the ambiance- chandeliers, table cloths, perfect lighting. The food did not disappoint either. I had the angel hair pasta w/ shrimp & my date had the pasta with pesto. She loved it - she even shares some with me.
My only complaint was our waiter. He did not greet us, introduce himself or exchange any pleasantries. He came to our table "What can I get for you?" Gee - thanks.. .nice to meet you too. I had to ask what the specials were. He was just really 'checked out' - and didn't convey any warmth or that he cared about us as guests. He never came back to make sure everything was OK. That was very disappointing. That is not acceptable at a place like this and when paying over $20/plate.
I would go back to this place for sure - BUT I would make certain to request a different waiter. He almost ruined our evening - but I wouldn't let him. We made the bets of it. I was seated across a gorgeous woman - and we enjoyed our meal, drinks and the rest of the evening.
Came in for a quick bite before a meeting. I enjoyed a delight dinner and amazing service
Loved the ambience and food. We will be back
Great food and very nice decor. Terrible service- waiter was slow and somewhat unfriendly.
First visit. Fantastic. See you again soon.
The seafood risotto special was exceptional. Busy but felt our service was great! It is our new “go to” restaurant in the neighborhood. Reasonably priced.
Once again I do not understand why restaurants sign up for Open Table, and when they make an error on a reservation, they tell you don't use Open Table. I hadnt been to Avanti for awhile because of the bad experiences, but I thought I'd try again. It wa s a mistake. It started when they told me Open Table made a mistake with the reservation, and chastised me for using open table. The managers were the usual rude selves. The food would have been better if the branzino had been de boned properly. There were bones (big ones) throughout the fish and I'm lucky I didn't choke on one. The manager thought he was being a sport to discount the meal. I couldn't eat the food, I wasn't offered another dish. The other meal was missing part of the food.
I'm done. The managers are as rude as ever, and the food is worse. And if they don't want you to use open table, then they should remove themselves.
I wouldn't recommend anyone eat here.
Arranged a business dinner for a party of 6 at Avanti Italian Bistro and Bar. Great atmosphere and we could easily talk to each other and the service was excellent and reasonably priced. Would recommend and will repeat.
Our party of five received excellent service. Veal scallopini was very good, but bronzini was cooked to dryness. We dined on a Wednesday with 20% off wine noted on a signboard at the door, and had a coupon for 10% pre-theater dining. Neither of these offers were reflected in the check when it arrived, but were graciously applied when our waiter was notified.
We dined here in 2017 and had a much better meal; perhaps we hit an off night. The ambiance is wonderful.
Very good neighborhood restaurant that you can just stop by and they will be able to find something for you. Food doesn't have too many choices but has a good list that will make any italian kitchen lover happy. Their pizzas are amazing and waiting crew is happy and delighted to serve their guests.
Food was really good and fresh. Loved my glass of wine.
We loved Avanti on Lake Ave. but while the new bistro is beautiful, the food just isn't as good and more importantly the staff is far less friendly. The former cafe was a very friendly neighborhood cafe. This new one has folks who are not friendly from the hostess to the wait staff.
Any why did they change the former cheese ravioli with aurora sauce to butternut squash ravioli with aurora cause - tomato and squash don't mix with my taste buds!!
A good experience overall. Food was tasty. Only issue was the service. We got seated right away but no one came over for close to 15 minutes. No one to ask us what we would like to drink, appetizer, or even if we had been helped yet. Seating there for that long, you can imagine can test your patience. We saw two other tables seated and taken care of.
I can appreciate the stress of a busy night, such as Valentine’s Day. However, the owners (?) or managers were not friendly. The female gave my boyfriend and I an extremely disapproving look. The male manager was rude to the hostess. Once seated, the server immediately asked if we were ready to order. Never filled water. Overall impression was that we were an imposition. Food was mediocre.
No warning about the special menu for Valentine’s day. The Branzino was littered with bone fragments, making it virtually inedible. The extra surprise was that we missed the askterisk advising that this selection cost an extra $12. The salmon was uninspired at best. Our wine glasses sat empty for most of our meal, and we were never asked if we would like a second glass. The waiter rushed desert to us and didn’t ask if we would like another beverage until he brought the check. Overall, a very disappointing experience with respect to the food, value, and service. Ambiance was acceptable if you like Fellini movies.
The risotto was awesome
We came for Valentine's Day. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive, the wait staff were efficient, and the food was excellent. We would recommend this place to anyone.
It was a nice dinner with good ambiance for a Val
Good food, well prepared and service was very friendly
Great service, food & ambiance! Will go back for sure !
Came here on a busy Saturday evening, so I'm sure it much louder than usual. We were seated promptly which I really appreciated. The only downside is that they have the long bench seating where you are only about 2 feet from the diners next to you. I really dislike this type of seating, but decided to go with it since we were hungry. Our waiter was fantastic. he was just the right mix of friendly without being obtrusive. The food is good. Not necessarily something that I close my eyes and dream about, but it was good pasta. The portions are not huge, so don't plan on having much to eat for lunch the next day. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.
